  • The Russian Revolutionary: Zaha Hadid on Kazimir Malevich
    First broadcast: Sep 2014.
Episode 12/18 World-renowned architect Zaha Hadid, perhaps best known for her futuristic architecture, explains how her work has roots in an art movement that is 100 years old. She has long cited the Russian abstract artist Kazimir Malevich as one of her greatest inspirations and, as a major exhibition of his work is on show at Tate Modern, together with curators and critics Zaha considers the influence of Malevich's avant-garde art on her avant-garde architecture.

“Modernism is always disrupted by revolutions”, modernism itself is a revolution against classicism, artists are crazy. 😂🤣

It bothers me that they won't give the credits to the composers whose music was used in the video. From 11:38 to 12:37 they play Metamorphosis, by Philip Glass, one of the greatest composers alive.

Hmm, I'm not sure I would consider Glass (as a 20th century composer) to be one the the true greats. As far a Minimalist composers go he is the most commercially successful but there are certainly better composers than him.

Que interesante acercarse a Mavelich a través se Zaha Hadid, y al mismo tiempo, a través de Mavelich leer su arquitectura.

The world lost one of the true greats of architectural history when Zaha died. There are very few people in the world who truly warrant the word 'genius' - it is a word that is thrown around far too liberally. However, it is difficult to think of a more appropriate word to describe Zaha Hadid. Her paintings are so wonderful, I think they're even better than her actual buildings.
