    Genius ! Was wondering how I could do this in logic

    Great video. Reaper has a Monitoring FX channel that works in a similar way. I run room correction software and metering plugins (VU, Youlean, etc.) that are independent of the master bus but global across all projects. Same concept and a great workflow shortcut.

      @EverythingMusicRecording  Рік тому

      Thanks! That's cool. I had no idea that was a feature of Reaper, I've never used it.
      When you bounce down a mix in Reaper does it bypass the monitoring FX channel? You mentioned room correction SW on yours and if I have been using CLA NX I have to remember to turn it off before I bounce. So it would be cool if the monitoring bus was bypassed when bouncing tracks down.

      @@EverythingMusicRecording Yes, the Monitoring FX bus completely bypasses the Master Bus, so you never have to remember to turn it off before bouncing your mix. Of course it can be toggled on and off as well. And once you build your signal chain it will be there for every project, no need to set it up each time or create a template to load. I'm not trying to sell you on Reaper, but the 2-bus concept was built into it by default and I only recently discovered it. It gets me to the same place with less thinking, and who doesn't appreciate that?

      Oh wow! That’s awesome! I kinda wish that was an option in Logic (if it is then I’ve missed a meeting lol) but that would be very handy to have. Good on Reaper for that one 🙂

    I have used 3 Master Bus'. Each one Eq'ed and Compressed differently with smaller effects on them as well. Then I would chose which one sounds the best as the main and then mix the other two to taste. I like having three different options as the main and with the other two mixed in as well makes it sound complete and full. Lastly I have my reference song going straight to the main, skipping the masters so I am getting an reference track with no effects.

      Oh, sounds a bit like a unique spin on Andrew Scheps’s rear bus trick. I dig it 🙂
      For sure on the reference skipping everything. No other way to do it or it defeats the whole point. Unless it’s something like Sonarworks, or in my case CLA NX the reference tracks should never go through any processing 🙂

    What is your "Rear Bus"?

    • @andriealinsangao613
      @andriealinsangao613 5 місяців тому +1

      It's an Andrew Schepps technique, apparently... I can't even explain it.

  • @ckowalski1029
    @ckowalski1029 Рік тому +1

    I noticed that you have a Rear Bus. Is this the Andy Schepps Rear Bus trick that you are implementing? If so, doesn't the Rear Bus supposedly bypass the mastering chain and go straight to the Stereo Out?

    • @EverythingMusicRecording
      @EverythingMusicRecording  Рік тому +1

      Good eye, and yes it is. As for Andrew’s bypassing the master chain, I honestly don’t know. But I took the basics of his rear bus trick and put my own spin on it. You can check that out if you’re interested.

      @@EverythingMusicRecording so the way you do it is, that your rear bus goes through the same final chain as the rest of your mix?

    • @EverythingMusicRecording
      @EverythingMusicRecording  Рік тому +1

      Pretty much yea. Plus I add a imaging plugin plus a touch of high and low end. Then I automate the level for the rear bus. I know Andy Wallace automates his master bus but I automate the rear bus instead. Let’s me kill a lot of birds with one stone so to speak 🙂

    great to see other aproches always and great video overall, transition, presentation, etc super neat. what about ozone reference track option? did you try it?

    • @EverythingMusicRecording
      @EverythingMusicRecording  Рік тому

      Thanks Fidel. And I agree. I’ve taken all sorts of bits and pieces I’ve learned over the years and then just adapted them into how I like to do things. Something all of us should be doing.
      I have Ozone Elements so I don’t have the option to drag reference tracks into. You’re the second person in two days who’s mentioned that. Maybe when it’s time up update I’ll upgrade to either standard or advanced. Elements was on sale for like $3 when I bought it and I just wanted to see if it was something I liked. And when it was $3 why bother with the trial? Lol

    Greetings,
    This is an amazing video. But it left me with a few questions. Sense you have Ozone 9 why not drop your reference track into it and let the software do the matching and compare via it? 😉
    It would also save you from having to create a different master overall.

    • @EverythingMusicRecording
      @EverythingMusicRecording  Рік тому

      Greetings back, and thanks 🙂
      I had no idea that ozone could even do that. My version is Elements. It was on sale thru plugin boutique for $3 or something silly cheap awhile back so I figured “why not?” Lol
      I only use it to double check the overall EQ of a track. And anytime I’ve run it the EQ will come back with maybe a half dB high or low shelf bump. So we’re splitting hairs at that point.
      With reference tracks as well I use them more to compare some general levels and the feeling of a track. I never use them to try and match EQ’s or any of that stuff. Like if I’m not quite sure if I have enough, or too much reverb on a vocal track, I’ll compare to a reference track.
      The rest of my utility plugins are just guides I like to check periodically along the way. For instance the first levels I set are kick and bass. I use that 3dB on the VU meter trick and then I start pulling everything else up and set levels where they feel best in relation to the kick and bass. Then once I have a good balance then I’ll start adding EQ and compression and all that fun stuff.
      I need to actually do a separate video on how exactly I’m using all those plugins. It’s on my “to do” list lol. It will probably make more sense than me trying to type it all out 🙂

    Another fantastic video my man. I also mix in Logic with similar routing. I like it because I can route off of my mixbus (your first master bus) to my mono grot box, headphones bus (sworx), a tape bus and the monitor/stereo out. I recently picked up the REFERENCE plugin which I like because it is saved last on the mixbus and has several presets pointing to my track folder. Saves me a ton of time. Keep the vids coming my man - great work!!

    • @EverythingMusicRecording
      @EverythingMusicRecording  Рік тому +1

      Thanks 😊
      Yea there’s all sorts of stuff you can do with routing. Wait, tape bus… you have a tape machine?? I had to look the grot box up. I’ve never heard of that.
      I tried a demo of Reference a year or two ago. I just use the plugins on my utility bus to make sure I’m in a good spot. Ozone was on sale for something stupid like $3 on Plugin Boutique when I bought it. I use that to double check everything. 🙂

    • @musicmwmusic
      @musicmwmusic Рік тому +1

      @@EverythingMusicRecording that's the beauty of it all - you can create whatever routing you need and save it as a template. But your video has cracked the nut so to speak, which is great! And again, you've done it in a concise/well put together way so thanks again. And no, unfortunately no tape machine :/ I'm older so I still call my bounce bus(no processing) a tape bus - lol!!

    • @EverythingMusicRecording
      @EverythingMusicRecording  Рік тому +1

      Well thanks for all the kind words my friend 🙂 I try so it’s nice to know I’m doing ok.
      Boo to the no tape machine lol. I’m not sure they would be worth the headache in this day in age anyway. And the price of tape (especially 2”) is just bonkers.
      If I had the room though and found a non-working one for cheap it would be cool just to have one. Be a conversation starter if nothing else lol.
