    -The Royal Family (actually all the royal families of Europe) were cousins. Sometimes first cousins on BOTH sides. Even Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip were distant cousins, both being direct descendants of Queen Victoria. Remember the unsightly Hannover (sp?) chin that was a real disfigurement to madness running throughout the families. Actually, Charles is the first not to marry a cousin. William went so far as to not even marry anyone associated in any way with the royal line (Charles' wife Camilla's great-grandmother was a mistress to Charles' great-great grandfather...I think that's correct (so association.) The Plantagenets were the most interesting bunch to me. The fact that Queen Elizabeth II was a direct decendent of Alfred the Great, going back over 1,000 years, is so fascinating to me. American history short, and not nearly as interesting. I'm American, so I'm allowed to say that.

      It's more than likely they are your ancestors. They are mine. Over 70% of Americans today are decended from the royal and noble families of the world.

      You don't have to be an American to be able to say that 😂.
      I think American history has its own intrigue. But I do love British history so much more. But maybe that's because I'm British and love our own history more because of that fact.

      I'm American...and one of my lines came over on the Mayflower. James IV Stewart is my 14th great-grandfather. Joanna of Castile, the heir of Isabella and Ferdinand, is my 14th great-grandmother on yet another line.
      Just because I'm American doesn't mean I don't have 100% European ancestors...including royalty.

    Look at the state that the Politicians have left us in... Instead of just one Royal as head of state, we now have the House Of Commons, and the House of Lords. The House of Lords comprising of 784 unelected officials, who go on to approve the UK's laws, after the laws have been proposed by the House of Commons, which has 650 members. Combined, that's a total of 1,434 politicians. We have more unelected officials, than we do elected officials, which is increased even further, when you consider the Civil Service, or the Uncivil Service, as I like to call them, and their representatives. In 2021, we had 475,020. We had almost half a million Civil Servant's, none of them were voted for, trying to govern the country themselves, overriding what Parliament tried to effect in law. Rarely do we get what we actually voted for. The MP's and the Lords are more interested in their own agenda's, than they are the public. Are we really better off with Politicians than we are a King? Cromwell deposed parliament himself, TWICE, via the use of the Military, because he discovered that they could NOT be trusted to do their job. There has to be a way to make democracy work. Otherwise, every democracy in the world is doomed to failure eventually, being replaced with a despotic, communistic tyranny.

      This is really a drop in the bucket of a national budget. Royal families are cheap in comparison to most expenses of a modern state and provide many benefits in diplomacy, tourism, national unity, ect. Pretty good deal all things considered.

    • @judithsullivan9703
      @judithsullivan9703 Рік тому +1

      @@Tsundereviol3nce1440 I guess I'm referring to the whole concept of monarchies.... I mean really..... just by having been born grants you your own sunbeam and automatically angels decend from the heavens and bestow the divine right to rule divinely and therefore your royalty. Give me a break.... like the history of brutality, disfunctional family dynamics, I mean look at Victoria... that was a mental health trainwreck.....ok how about this example...?. Charlie who's marriage to Diana was.... what?... coerced...forced.... had to be another blue blood....he mentally and emotionally drained that woman. All the while still slipping around to be with Camilla....who by the way.....is the granddaughter of his grandfather's mistress. Just move on already... what kind of an example is that for the people who are falling over themselves to get near them.. I'm thinking that whole princess thing is all washed up as well... tell me what you think I really want to understand.

    The French theory behind the national anthem isn't proven at all, with alternative more likely origins. I have no idea why it's being sold as fact in this documentary.

    😲 SURPRISE!…. Now, get those old fairytales and Hollywood fables out of your head. Ancient Royalty was far more akin to Shakespearean dramas and Machiavellian plots than Disney tales. Hidden behind all of the medieval castles, lavish palaces, splendid pomp and pageantry, was far more often than not maelstroms of ‘ cloak and dagger ’ , intrigue, and numerous scandals. Ancient royal life wasn’t all ‘ fun and games ’ .
