A tip when rotating objects: If you hold "J" while rotating you can snap to a fixed angle (I think it's 10 or 30 or something), if your mesh is aligned with the grid you can easily get that sweet 90 degrees without going to the attribute editor. If your mesh is NOT aligned you can just use "freeze transformations" from the modify menu and reset the position of your modifiers. Thanks for the tutorial Mike.
+Mike Hermes Oh yeah, I imagined that you might already know that, I had your viewers in mind when I posted that since they're most likely newbies in Maya like me. Great channel btw, cheers.
Thank you so so so much, Mike! This is very helpful :) This is coming from Russia with love, hehe :) So i am joining the Brazilian watcher in their saying that your kindness has crossed the borders :) I will yet spend a lot of time with your awesome videos learning stuff :)
Thank you so much! I'm making R2D2 for my final, and all I need is to make the details on his head and its done, but I tried it in class today and looked horrid. I hope this works!
Hey I'm trying to make a display but I want to behind it, like you would a see a curved tv, but I'm using Maya 2016 but I dont seem to have the create deformers tab?
ah awesome, quick question, should I apply texture to object first or will it make a difference, I may figure it out before you get back with me but if you know of a better way to add the texture and then bend or vise versa I appreciate the response. thanks for vid
I like your videos, I am working on a dragster chassis right now and it is my first project with Maya or any 3D modeling program. I have my first tube laid out and set up the way I want it and I also have it instance duplicated. I'm having trouble figuring out how I should bend it closed at the front end. Do you already have a video or can point me towards one? Much appreciated!!
Hi Mike, Im having some issues with this tool is Maya 2018 that I cant seem to figure out. Do you know of any bugs or issues with this tool deforming shapes? I have been scouring the internet for answers on this topic and cant seem to find any fixes. Thanks.
How do you create a bend, key frame it, then change the bend and key frame it x amount of frames later? When I try, it just holds whatever curve I set it to last.
Hello, is there any way to bend an object of a relatively complex geometry along a custom curve perfectly? I tried using the animation deformer 'flow path object' along a custom curve but it does not work perfectly. It causes a portion of the model to have twisting artifacts despite having the right settings.
Hi Fisher, It really depends on the object, the poly positions and the number of subdivisions that are aligned with your bend direction(s) Did you try the Lattice ? Maybe you can send me a picture of the object so I can take a look. My email address is hermesmike@hotmail.com Regards, Mike
Thanks alot for ur quick response, in order to ensure that you would be able to help me to identify the problem clearly, I would send you the maya file sometime soon.
Mike Hermes Like what you said, i realised that the model has a bad deformation because of its bad topology.I managed to fix and refine it and it seems to work perfectly well now. Thanks alot for ur response anyway.
NOR3MSTI Well, as this occurs in your game engine and not in Maya it seems that that is creating it. In what format did you import it into the game engine ? Mike
Hi Trang, Moving objects typically involves animation. Check this video out to see an introduction to animation ua-cam.com/video/-KZGAC19nHU/v-deo.html Regards, Mike
OOOOOOLD tutorial - still helped me in 2021 as I didnt knew how to bend it on different angle. Thank you!

Thank you. I work with maya sparingly (I really love it though) and always forget I have to add edges for it to bend. Thank you.
Very welcome

Thanks Mike, just what i needed

Thank you so much! Pretty sure you just saved my grade. :)
+maeveactually You are very welcome :-)
That cool!!
Is it possible for me to bend edge loop tool ,
For instance maybe I want to have straight edge on one side and curve on the other side
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
simple and great, thx
Thank you Roberta !

NOR3MSTI Hi there,
Bend first and then texture because your uv's will change when you deform,
Mike
awesome, that worked fine, thanks for video
Thank you THANK YOU

Yes, you need to adjust high bound and / or low bound in the deformer settings
thx dude you help me a lot
Thank you thank you so so much!
You are very welcome Timber :-)
ty man really usefull
Thanks mate!
your an Angel MIKE!

You too !
Is it possible to add a horizontal and vertical nonlinear deformer? I want to bend it in 2 directions, not just one.
+A Google User Yes, first do one, then delete the history and apply the other
Thanks!
How do you create a bend, key frame it, then change the bend and key frame it x amount of frames later? When I try, it just holds whatever curve I set it to last.
Don't delete the hostory so the bend handle will stay in place and then keyframe the bend handle
thx a lot!
You are very welcome Peter
Mike
Thanks for this video, it helps me a lot :)
but how can i bend a pipe 2 times in different directions ?!?
GeimhcS LeinaD Bend two pipes and then connect them
Mike Hermes great, thank you Mike :)

Glad I could help Fisher
Thanks!!!:)
Thank u
mike, when i add the objects in game, they are blurry at a distance, is there a fix for that?
NOR3MSTI Well, as this occurs in your game engine and not in Maya it seems that that is creating it. In what format did you import it into the game engine ?
Mike
exported it as an i3d for giants editor
NOR3MSTI To be honest I am at a loss. I don't work with game engines and I have never heard of this problem before
I mean making curves at buttom of a polygoncube and having straight edge at the top please!!!!
Can you teach me how to move this object? I try to move this object and it is changed
Hi Trang,

Sir if we need to bend a circle or round object ☹️
what about bending only parts of the object; let's say the tip only?
+MouseCrusader In the bend deformer tab you have the high bound and low bound sliders. They control where the bend is
+Mike Hermes ah. thanks for the reply!
Cheers
how can you actually animate a deformer?
By adjusting the deformer slider
Goood!!!!
Klinger Cardoso Thanks
muaaaaah , muaaaah , thank you sir , thaaaaaaaaaank youuuuuuuuuu :* :D :D :D :D
You're welcome Hani
It is okay Mike I found the tool in Maya 2017.
Now that's in 2014! but what about in 2017?
"I" need to bend a particular object . So tell me how to do it .
"I need"..... so "tell me"..... Is there a question anytime soon ?
Thank you so much!
