I was an analog snob for a long time and resisted the VA machines. I finally bought a NL4. I was just comparing it to my vintage Minimoog and OB8. It hangs right there with both, but also does a LOT more. I may have to grab an A1 as well.
Very late to reply, but yes. Whatever sound you have loaded on parts A through D can be played in any combination. If you want to change a sound, just select the part you want to change, and choose a new sound. You can also group those sets of sounds into performances, so with a bit of prep, it's entirely possible to have a performance for every song in a set list, each with its own distinct set of 4 separate sounds which you can layer. It's a properly brilliant synth!
Drop that synth! The Nord Nerd Hey, I'd love to drop this synth from approximately 100 metres up. These synths are huge, heavy and cool. Peace ✌️ out people
This is just tell-selling a Nord A1 and not an objective review. The A1 is very expensive, has no full ADSR, no aftertouch, poor keybed and very basic screen. There are more synths that can play 4 sounds together (for instance the much cheaper Waldorf blofeld). Please be objective when you mention the word review and mention all the pro and cons. People have to work hard for their money !!
Uh, lots and lots of synths are multi-timbral, thats nothing new and certainly not unique. Also- Nord synths are NOT analog(They are great synths but your information isn't accurate.).Especially doing a review for a magazine, Id think you'd at least have some idea what your talking about here, guess not.

good review, helpful, thanks!
The multitimbral feature is NOT unique to the A1!!! All Nords have this.

As you mentioned you can play 4 sounds layered together, can those 4 come from custom sounds that have been "liked" and then stored in the memory?
I'd like to know the answer to this as well , customization Is key.

Analogue signal chain?
Digital.
+James Reeno listen to what he says at 43 secs, I'm being pedantic because he's wrong. And wrong people on the internet must pay.
I think he meant that the signal goes trough the same modules (such as filter, VCA) as the ones present in an analog synth
BluffMunkey yes, he was wrong, but in a final mix, the analog/digital argument is MOOT.
re the reviewer here it's not analog ......analog chain.....LoL ...it's virtual analog...however , it sounds great and on my short list ....
Good performance
hi man ,can you make a tutorial how to play forever young -alphaville with Nord LEAD, THANKS.
