ExtraOrdinary: Bjarke Ingels Group presents the new CityLife project

The challenges of modern architecture showcased by one of the most iconic architecture firm.
The international architectural practice BIG - Bjarke Ingels Group stars in the third episode of Medelhan’s latest webinar series ExtraOrdinary: Architectural Challenges to introduce you the state-of-art of the newest buildings for the Milanese district of CityLife. The multifaceted design challenges of this majestic urban project is showcased by Lorenzo Boddi, partner of BIG and visionary architect who offers you a privileged glimpse into one of the most iconic firms in the industry.
A pearl of avant-garde design, the project has been conceived to harmoniously be incorporated into the aesthetics of the area as the missing piece to the urban mosaic. Therefore, instead of competing with the existing towers, the project will consist of two buildings tied together with a suspended wood canopy in order to create a public covered space. The new gateway to the site will thus take the form of a public park.
The traditional understanding of the portico structure, namely an extension of an interior space to the exterior, has been completely rethought and remade by the Danish practice. Indeed, the light roof structure and the thin columns of the building’s canopy will result in an ‘inverse portico’ discarding the traditional boundaries between indoor and outdoor.
Designed to host workspaces and offices as well as accessible recreational areas, the buildings will be characterized by a continuous façade with panoramic terraces and light-filled interiors. A much-awaited project, the CityLife building will inaugurate a new typology of office that is likely to set a different paradigm of interior and exterior spaces.
Alongside Lorenzo Boddi, this episode will star Patrick Abbattista, Founder & CEO of DesignWanted - official media partner of the event - in the role of moderator.
