Cool review. I’ve watched a few of your videos and have decided to try a few more things out. I have just recently purchased the M9100 XTR and here are a few things I noticed. The 11/12 speed feature no longer exists on the m9100 shifter The up shift and down shift thumb levers both have rubberized pads on them. The ispec ev shifter mounts perfectly to the ispecII brake lever The 12 spd m9100 GS rear derailleur works very well with the 11 spd shifter and cassette. I would go as far to say there is no difference in swing or cable pull other than one more gear. (I’ve uploaded a video although not narrated). M9000 shifter, m8000 cassette m9100 gs rear derailleur. Keep up the great work! Thanks for sharing.
Now that I onløy hhave one working D1XTrail, I need a solution. So I'm considering getting a mechanical shifter again. I read the M8100 has less lever throw. Which will be a nice improvement. Do they have a lighter shift too? I'm considering getting XTR m9100 or M8100 I was impressed with the durability of the M9000, so m9100 is probably as good.
Is optislick wire the same thing as the XTR M9000 came with? if so that's trash. If not I'm keen to try it if it's something new. Cus the one that came with M9000 wore out the coating on the first ride and resulted in friction. But I guess less extreme routing helps to reduce it. but on a full suspension bike with routing going up down, right left, and have bends it will wear faster. But Jagwire wires did well.
Hi, can you shift 2 gears at a time towards a higher gear with both directions of the lever? Mine only shifts 2 gears if pushed with the thumb and 1 if pulled with the index finger. Don't know if the shifter is defective. Thanks!!
For some reason some shops list the Xt shifter as working with 11 speed, but some don't list the XTR with any info about this. I guess both will work with 11 speed, one this stops the extra click I guess.
Also, just a quick idea. I cut out and glued a little piece of skateboard tape on my sram shifters. I think the same can be done on your older xt shifter. 😉
Wondering if the XTR provides an easier (less thumb pressure) required to upshift than XT? My current XT shofter requires a LOT of pressure and makes my thumb really sore over the course of a ride. I'd read elsewhere that SLX is very easy to upshift and that is also true with XTR.
Is the Xtr 12 speed shifter easier to shift compared to XT? I have XT 11 shifter and has a light action, wanting to get 12 speed but heard shifting is heavy
I've had nothing but problems with the new shimano 12spd. 2 failed xt freehub mechanisms that started creaking, then locked on and turned into fixed gear hubs. That was terrifying! Then the mail pivot of my slx rear mech corroded and the pulley cage no longer moved. Most pertinent to this video, 3 xt 12spd shifters fail on me. On all three, one on the small springs that drives the shifts to easier gear/bigger cog breaks, then they can only shift to harder gears. Shimano has warrantied every I have listed, no questions asked. I do ride way more than most(endurance mtb racing is my thing) but this has been shocking to me, have had 11spd xt everything for years with zero issues. Think in the next year or two we'll start seeing massive recalls on all the 12spd parts as the average riders catch up with the mileage I put on my stuff.
@@LoveMTB I've been shocked, have never contacted shimano warranty before. over 10k miles on 11 spd xt with no problems. I've just got my XT shifter that also failed last month same problem as described above. Shimano warrantied it but I will upgrade to XTR now. Hopefully, this will not happen again. The XT spring that breaks is apparently a known problem. If you dig a little on Google you will see many people reporting the same issue. I am moving away from XT shifters...
it's beyond me why everybody wants to "upgrade" to 12 speed so desperately. in my opinion it is a downgrade. 12 speed way more unprecise and way harder to adjust than 11 speed. then it is way heavier because of the additional gear (cassette). also way more expensive. so essentially you pay more to have worse shifting and more wieght. how stupid is that? Also you have less compatibility because you need micro spline hubs. with the 11 speed you can mount 10 speed and others easily. Also these huge 51 teeth cassettes look ugly, almost as big as a pizza plate. Who needs 51 teeth anyways? And by the way you can also get special cassettes for the 11 speed with that amount of teeth if you want. And the funny thing is that earlier xt or xtr shifters had the ability to shift 2 gears at once by both pushing and pulling the small leaver. Also the amount of force needed to shift into harder gears is increasing which each gear shimano adds. Shimano is getting worse.
I quit using mechanical shifters, just too much thumb abuse, fatigue, pain in finger tip, pain when my thumb misaligned and I shift, I now use Archer D1X Trail. much better fit too, no extreme movements, no fatigue, it's painless. I sold XTR M9000 shifters I had.

And here goes my question: I upgraded my bike from XT M8000 11s to M8100 12s and now I need to replace the right brake lever/pump so I wonder how to gather shift lever with it. But I see there is only I-Spev EV clamp for my 12s shifter and my brake lever was I-Spec II. I'm thinking about any solution so I would like to know if it is possible to mix for example a newer BL-M8100 which comes with a I-Spec EV clamp keeping the rest of my brake system in M8000. Perhaps it do exist any adaptor to attach a I-Spec EV shifter in a I-Spec II Clamp. The fact is that I can't understand this Shimano policy of back uncompatibility anyway. Thanks.

But from judging from videos I've seen it does not seem to be for me.
@@LoveMTB Their new levers have a smarter clamp for sure, smart clamping hinge and bolt placement, allowing for easy acses to bolt and moving the bolt there allows more room for other things to be mounted like Archer Dx1trail, the old design with bolt under the bar, was a bad design it tool up much room diagonally, so Archer Dx1trail could not move seperatly, it went just between the gap in the brake clamp, bad idea, now I run Trp Spyke mechanical brake, but the Hydraulic brakes from Trp has smart clamp and bolt placement too.
Shimano xt and xtr shifter is same
@@LoveMTB and another question of mine, does gx sram have pulley bearing?
