bakerXderek by far. I have VERY minimal mechanical knowledge only know some basic shit from doing basic jobs on my car. But you make this easy for anyone to understand,
Nice work man! Looking forward to seeing it run again! I would replace all the bearings in the bottom end while you have it apart. It's a small price to pay for peace of mind and knowing they'll be good to go for the long haul😉
outstanding!!! and so glad you decided to do this right, tearing your first bike motor down to it's inner workings and repairing it yourself is an experience every rider should enjoy. mine was in '76 at the age of 16 on my new rd-350 in my room in mom's trailer at the trailer park, i had to replace the shifter cam that sheered off in the bowels of the gearbox, it was so much fun when she fired up on the first kick to my mother's amazement, who had said it was never going to run again. but it was such a rewarding feeling
Bravo dude, not too many people would take this on themselves with just a shop manual and interwebs help. I was nervous enough just adjusting my valves on the KLR 650 lol. One step at a time dude you got this.
That's how it starts man. Workbench, stickered up toolbox, special tools, manuals... you're a beer fridge away from being a legit homejobber. JIS drivers are the sh!t. Sometimes a little lube and giving the butt-end a few smacks with your hammer can help loosen stubborn screws.
Been so excited to see this beauty come back to life. I remember all of the cool ass adventures you took us on and finally those good ole days return soon. Good work bro. Nothing can stop ya now. 👌
Derek the bearings are supposed to be pressed onto the crank then you can heat the cases in an oven and or cool the crank and the two will mate easily ,It might be worth leaving that existing bearing on there they are a pain to get off and have to be pressed back on.
Hell yea!! You’re doing great! You have all the parts you need. Now the only thing it needs is your time. Awesome job pointing out every little detail for yourself to watch over for the rebuild. Keep it up. I’m really excited now!! Can’t wait for the next build video.
Hell yea good job! Not sure how far along you are on the back end but. There’s a trick to pressing the bearings in. Freeze them, and heat the case up. Slide right in like butter.
very frustrating im sure..but will totally be worth it in the end.. cant wait to see you back in the fields and trails with this thing. super glad you finally decided to do it..
That little work bench is awesome! And kudos to you for taking your time, bagging the bits, keeping things orderly! Good on you! And thanks for putting my sticker on the tool chest. :)
BXD you're doing a fine job, take the cases and rod to a machine shop and they will press in the bearings and so on. Your front sprocket looked a little worn so you might want to consider replacing that. They're like $10. Check your rear sprocket for wear as well.
Wow I didn't realise the DR200 had that engine, My old Chinese 125cc pulse used the same engine (different cc obviously) I have a video stripping that engine and one showing how the gear box works.
Heck yeah can’t wait for the next one! I’m getting a M I N T dr250 from my FIL for $500 and it only needs some carb work. This build is keeping me motivated to save hahah
Just keep in mind if there is any questions that comes up in your head. Get in touch with someone you know to help answer any question be for putting something together. the timing marks are in some manuals are questionable in its self. You don't want to start all over again. cheah. your doing great so far
Badass dude. It really helps knowing whats going on inside of your engine. Now when you ride you'll have a complete appreciation and understanding of the importance of each little part. It's so much better when you fix something yourself instead of letting a friend or shop do all of the work. You'll learn a lot. Keep it up Brosama, she'll be purring again soon. Also, you might consider going with a smaller rear sprocket if you're going to be riding it on the freeway. Small displacement single piston engies don't like to be wound out for extended periods. Thats likely what cooked the rod bearing last time. Take it easy dickhead.
Get a good pair of vice grips and lock them on the screw heads and you wont have to worry about stripping the screws. Also a little butane torch is handy for heating screws and little bolts
To make your life easier I really recommend getting that motorcycle lift. I picked one up at harbor freight and its been the best purchase I've made. I just wouldn't put anything over 750lbs on it
You're doing a great job. I would change the crank bearings personally, especially with all the metal filings in there. Looking forward to the next episode 👌😁👍
2 things. First the plug that you said idk wtf this is. I think it is the kill switch from the handlebars. It grounds out the stater and kills spark. Second from the looks of it you might want to get you a new front sprocket or maybe the set and a chain while you got it apart. It might have just been the camera, but it looked like the teeth are starting to get worn making the teeth have a curve to them. I had that happen on my RM125 when I was a kid. Just a thought. Also you gotta love those reverse threads. I was doing my truck coolant fan on my truck...I was cranking on that bitch for an hour before I tried the other direction...pop came right off. Love it man. If you feeling froggy after I would love to see the old rod bearing and crank.
Watch out for those K&N oil filters, knew a couple of people that blew them right out of the engine. I would stick to oem IMHO. Love the vids man keep up the build series!
Life hack. Put a screwdriver onto a screw head through a rubber band to prevent stripping. Or you can even put some dirt on the end of a screwdriver to add some grip.
Be someone who's ridden dirt bikes and motorcycles for a while also since you got it the engine all tore apart you going to take the clutch out all that maybe you should go ahead and rebuild the clutch also put new clutch new clutches in it that way everything is completely fresh
When you go to install the new bearings, put them in the freezer for a couple hrs, take them out only when you are ready to install them. Use the back side of a socket as close to the same size as the bearing to tap it in with a hammer. The freezer shrinks it enough to where you do not need a press
@@bakerXderek just put it in your car. San berNARdino get about that hot haha. Well when you get that up and running. You should ride up bee canyon (hemet to idyllwild) right after a rain. Its amazing
Might aswell start hitting that chassis with some degreaser n grab u one of them nice dremel polishers, make it a full restoration. We been waiting for danker x rebuild for the gooty hole series.

Glad to see you're trying to rebuild it instead of scraping it. Do you know why the engine blew? I'd put in all new bearings and a new oil pump. Poor thing runs around with only 1 quart of oil as it is, might as well give it full oil pressure. Don't know if you'll need a case separator tool.
JIS and Phillips are different, you get JIS and Philips screws and should use the correct screwdriver for each, I think that might have been the point you were getting across but was not sure, so typed away anyway.
Oi! You need to check the bearing on the new crank for play it sounded like it is rattling. It should have no play. If it has you will run into the same shite again sooner or later. Funny to watch a noob working alone on a engine... brings back memories.
