    car is really nice, well kept, looks so close to new, like a year old or so even with the small dent and scratch in the covered steering wheel center cap :P but the weather stripping looks good, the seats look awesome, the interior looks so clean, she starts right up, gauges light up, (I even like the 80's Chevy chime alert lol) sounds good, the 'unofficial' 0-60 wasn't bad, considering the wheel spin burnout, I got it starting at the very end of 02:06 to 02:13 so, like 6 point something which, with less spin you could get that down a bit but still very respectable for a 33 yr. old car. You either have brand new shocks & suspension parts and are driving on the smoothest roads in Indiana, or both, because your 87 makes my 95 with 71k sound like everything is rattling loose inside (and maybe even outside lol... I need new shocks, obviously). Your enthusiasm and obvious love for your car is great to see. Thanks for sharing and may you enjoy many, many, many more miles of smiles in your very good looking C4.

I’m sure the Lt1 feels much faster though.
      As far as those Indiana roads, don’t let it fool you haha. I was on smooth roads. When I hit a bump I feel like the car(and me) are going to break in half haha. I am getting some new shocks too. But ya she still rattles and screams over the bumps haha.

      Richard Carr thank you, that’s nice of you to say. It’s nice to get compliments from people on how I do things. Yes I very much do go out of my way to take her on the nice roads like I did today. She only leaves the garage on sunny days, etc. I treat her too well maybe haha. As you can tell I try to keep it shinny spotless all the time too. Which again some have told me, “why, it’s just a C4”. Well for me it’s my dream car, so it’s gets treated like one. I really want to preserve this car. Clean C4 corvettes are becoming rare.
      Also yes as far as keeping it’s nice(it’s not for profit). I don’t really see the value of these ever getting super high at some point. At least not in the next 10 years. Keeping it nice is just a hobby for me. Nice cars are what really keep me going. I’m sure you have a nice one as well. It sounds like you care about them. Which is nice to see.

So for this Corvette to hit 100 should be an average effect since it's a little smaller, or a lot smaller than the 1930's to 1950's automobiles, is a sport car, and is made for higher than average performance. Go on a salt flat and take it to it's highest speed, perhaps solid tires as well.

    I was hoping to find a video exactly like this. I'm shopping c4's among other cars under consideration at the moment and a huge question for me is whether they're quiet long-haul cruisers, as this thing's old-tech relative ease of maintenance and parts availability plus the low-prices they're had for are big pluses, and I'm planning on using the second car mainly for big road trips (my Cayman R is worthless for that: as fun as it is to drive, it's deafeningly loud and a very hard rider). Thanks for posting this! One question: does the engine/drivetrain have an intrusive whine at any particular speed? My preferred road speed is usually around 80-85 (where legal) and some cars lull in certain ranges where others resonate. Where are the big resonant frequencies, speedwise, with the L98 c4?

    • @corvettemode1556
      @corvettemode1556  4 роки тому +5

      vixapphire I would consider this a useable long haul cruiser. These 350 v8s are very comfortable at cruising speeds(pretty good mpg cruising as well). As far as maintenance, yes parts are available, BUT these are honestly a pain to work on. Usually lots of things need to come apart to get to anything.(yes surprising since it’s all open under the hood haha). As far as sound when you are driving, it is very easy to live with if it’s factory stock. Honestly you can barely hear it at all when you are cruising. Even when you floor it, it’s a lot of engine noise. The factory exhaust on these are pretty quiet. I ordered a exhaust for mine to get some more sound. So if you get a stock vette it will not be annoying at all. You’d be surprised how well these handle too. These drive quite nice for their age. I’d recommend it! If you have any other questions I’ll be glad to answer!

      @@corvettemode1556 Thanks a million! I'm far partial to these over later models; the look of these is great, and as far as I'm concerned, any factory stereo with CD and tape both is right up my alley. lol! The one I'm looking at has need of immediate replacement of the outer window-rubber-strips across the windowsills (not sure what those are called), although the actual weather stripping is all in pretty decent shape otherwise. And a few other cosmetic things. Stock 90, about 55k miles and it has 2 tops. The guy wants 10,5 for it but that seems a bit rich to me, or does it? I'm not sure where this thing should be priced; the underbody's very clean and so's the interior. If it didn't need this cosmetic stuff I'd probably be fine with handing over close to what he's asking but then the parts aren't too pricey (although taking door panels off to get to where these parts attach seems like a labor-intensive PITA). I'm a bit lost in this C4 world; cars in stellar shape all seem to be either way too cheap or way too expensive. lol.

    • @corvettemode1556
      @corvettemode1556  4 роки тому +6

      vixapphire Ya pricing on these varies. You get some people that think they are worth way more than they are! There are too many around still to be super valuable yet. I will say you will be surprised how amazing the factory radios sound(lots of bass, at least for the time period) I know what you mean about those outer window strips. They go bad on pretty much all of them. Which is to be expected with their age. I think you can order them for around 50 bucks a window if I remember right. As far as that price of 10k. That’s not too bad since the miles are so low. BUT like you said the car needs a little work. That’s a perfect condition price. I’d offer the guy 9k cash and that would be fair for both sides. Shoot I got mine for 6150 and it just hit 79k miles. So if he doesn’t take the 9k. You will have no problem finding another good one out there

    C4 are Pound for pound the best for the money abs brakes tpi engine easy to modify easy to work on, light weight, 1.0 g world class All around, GM in GM and 84 took decided to go after the world with an all-around every day dependable usable reliable easily fixable performance car and the 84 Corvette did that yeah the horsepower was low but for the year it kept it on par with other high and exclusive cars and as they added the tuned port engine the Corvette became faster and faster you didn't hear about people having to have hard times looking for a specific mechanic like Lamborghini Ferrari Porsche Maserati anybody like that you could find a V8 Lamborghini jalpa or the Ferrari 308 or the Porsche 928 or any of them other cars and look at the maintenance cost and look at hands down even today and 8587 Corvette with 60 70,000 MI will still crack 150 plus miles an hour still very fast performance numbers off the line you can rebuild the engine or get a new one for dirt cheap and it's a Chevy I have an 87 and it's a great car I love the instrument cluster no issues and my car even 50 more years from now will still be able to be recognized as Corvette and it it stops on a dime it turns on a dime it gets up and goes she will put you in the seat she will let that rear end go sideways off the line so it's an amazing car mine is PPG Ferrari red with lexani 19 inch deep dish rims the thing handles stops I can take my hand off the steering wheel and she goes straight on the highway and at 120 miles an hour when I stomp on the gas it's still puts you in that back seat so yeah a pound for pound the best bargain is buying a nice shoes 84 Corvette if you want you a nice use pretty much affordable supercar because the 87 irocs 85 irocs they're going for extreme amounts of monies and most of them you can't even get the 35o.tpi engine. I have raced many 80s and 90s performance cars and she has always held up to the challenge win or loose I have never been unhappy in my 87 c4 I have had to sleep in the car before and laid the front seats forward and stretched out and let her run All night long, and she never missed a beat, I live in Colorado and have had the fun many times doing some high speed driving in the mountains with other cars like 350 z cars WRX Porsche charger's challengers jaguars BMW Benzes etc and my Red Vette never got laughed at, or anything like that, she made the others have to work hard and the respect the car demands she gets, cause the WRX and other cars are quick off the line but she stays on them and at 140 mph the WRX is already getting to it's top speed when the c4 is cruising past up to her top end of 156 mph, 80 thousand miles, recently rebuilt engine. She can and does get up and goes

    • @corvettemode1556
      @corvettemode1556  3 роки тому +1

      Well they aren’t all manuals. So that’s that. Can’t all have a manual if they aren’t all manual. Plus old people don’t want to shift gears. Also, during the 80s, it was considered a luxury to have a auto. People paid more for autos back then haha

      @jen zydyk 0-60 in 5.9 seconds from factory. At the time when this car came out, that was impressive. Sure it’s lost a step over 30 years. What car wouldn’t. Emissions limited the power of these cars back in the 80s. All cars were low on power then. But you wouldn’t know that, you’d rather just hate. Corvette Mode I’m not hating. I’ve owned corvettes and other enthusiast cars. I’m just pointing out the reality. It is a completely irrational purchase. Whereas videos like yours may actually drive desire, I’m providing a rational counter argument
