My father whom just passed away bought a 95 ZR1 brand new. It was the car I learned to drive manual in. Unfortunately it was destroyed along with everything else when our home was leveled by an EF4 tornado. I’m thinking of selling my Callaway to buy a C4 Zr1. We live not very far from Hennesey Performance and my father always wanted to twin turbo it. So I’m thinking of picking up where he left off. Or possibly creating a 415 stroker out of the lt5. It’s just an insane amount of money. Almost double what I gave for my 427dart ls next2 long block.

I have watched both of these videos, this one and the other one that shows it from a bystanders view. Without a doubt these two videos are the very best example of a high speed run and the sound of a hot V-8 engine. Absolutely superb!

Yeah it was the first step out of the automotive dark ages and into the modern era. It’s not my favorite generation but it was the biggest improvement generation to generation-wise, the C3 was a bit of a mess.
cv 67 well thank you. Its a nice color, its going to need some love right now the car didnt run well in ”full power”. Some injectors were bad and also some coil. So decided to start a little project now. So it will get some love.
Sounds like effing NASCAR, love that high revving V8 sound. Honestly a stockish spec C4 ZR-1 racing series with that DOHC V8 would have been effing epic. Its been proven that motor loves to rev and holds several at the time endurance records for a production car maintaining its top speed for hours on end.
First time I've ever heard a C4 ZR-1 engine wide open, all the way to top speed. Beautiful noise. The car was very stable, too. I read the C4 was actually developed to be aero-stable up to 200 mph. You got up to about 185 mph, right? Looks like the Corvette engineers did a good job. The original ZR-1 engine always gets lots of praise, but the rest of the C4 is way under-appreciated, today. These were the types of cars the drivers needed skills AND courage to pilot at those speeds...Sure modern BMWs, Mercs and Audis are just as fast...but without any real passion, not really ‘soulless’ but ‘ sterilized. 155mph+ in an M5 is ‘subdued’ where as in a vette or WS6 or even...dare I say it...an early 90s Porsche just have a RAWNESS to them. @@glencollins4962 I know that's sarcasm but I'll play along as I'm just sitting here riding to work.. for those that don't know... you Rev match when you down shift for two reasons. One so that you don't shock the rear tires. And two so that you don't shock the power train. Rev matching when downshifting is simply matching the rpm of the engine to the wheel speed. Simply, if you're running 60 mph in 5th gear and you want todown shift to 4th, you want to blip the throttle to match the rpm you would be at if you were running 60 in 4th. Quite simple. Better for clutch. Eliminates accidental lock up. Less stress on powertrain and drivetrain. Now, I wasn't berating the guy. I actually was complimenting him for being brave enough to make the run under those circumstances. But as far as down shifting, revving the engine, letting the rpms fall back down, then dumping the clutch and having the rpms shoot back up..... well that ain't the way its done. You do it right, you only hear one Rev. This concludes today's lesson
I can tell you after a Run like that slowing down from going that Fast even in a Corvette, Slowing Down without the Brakes catching on Fire was a problem when they were even taking all that information down for Future Engineers to Design newer and more advanced Engines even maybe 50 years ago and the engineers maybe started Production of an Engine maybe won't Exist for maybe even 50 years down the Road and So the maybe LS Design was Based on a Testing Ground or Even His Backyard and REALLY 😅 what difference does it make weather Your driving at that speed next to a Fence or Next to a tree line I bet if He did Fly off the Ground I Bet a Bird a Might Look Up at a Corvette for a Change..

This was my "If I win the lotto" car when in production. Of course I never actually played. lol. Regardless, you are driving my lotto car! Nicely! Congrats. My current lotto dream is sadly not a NEW car at all. As great as they are, something is missing. I would build my own. It would look like an early C3 but totally re-engineered.
That's movin! I had a opportunity to run my 04 Z06 and was able to go 148. Had I known the course or had a 2nd chance I'd have gone 160+. My C5 was rock steady and I'll never forget it.
Hi I did 6 runs on this occasion every run faster and further though about a C5 Z06 didn't feel like my ZR-1 at all you need to find an event and have another go at taping your Z06 out
Yeah I think GM definitely knew what they were doing with the body shape and the aerodynamics. I think it's still interesting that it is the only double overhead cam engine put in a Corvette. Figures GM didn't make it either, they had Lotus design it and Mercury Marine I believe make it.
When I was young these cars dominated the car world in the 1990s now there a thing of the past since 2024 ZR1 and e-ray and Zonda just came out move over for the beast super cars.
I love a good stock engine. When it comes to muscle cars and Japanese tuners, everyone wants to give everything engine swaps, 1000 horsepower, massive turbos and superchargers, etc. But nothing to me beats the sound of a nice bone-stock engine, of any type, really. I wish more people appreciated that. Even with a minor exhaust change.
I LOVE those stearing wheels, came in firebird and Camaro's too. I like them because it's relaxing pushing them in they are nice and squishy it's like popping the bubble plastic " in a sense "

I had a opportunity to run my 04 Z06 and was able to go 148. Had I known the course or had a 2nd chance I'd have gone 160+.
My C5 was rock steady and I'll never forget it.
Hi I did 6 runs on this occasion every run faster and further though about a C5 Z06 didn't feel like my ZR-1 at all you need to find an event and have another go at taping your Z06 out

Yeah I think GM definitely knew what they were doing with the body shape and the aerodynamics. I think it's still interesting that it is the only double overhead cam engine put in a Corvette. Figures GM didn't make it either, they had Lotus design it and Mercury Marine I believe make it.
When I was young these cars dominated the car world in the 1990s now there a thing of the past since 2024 ZR1 and e-ray and Zonda just came out move over for the beast super cars.

I love a good stock engine. When it comes to muscle cars and Japanese tuners, everyone wants to give everything engine swaps, 1000 horsepower, massive turbos and superchargers, etc.
But nothing to me beats the sound of a nice bone-stock engine, of any type, really. I wish more people appreciated that. Even with a minor exhaust change.

I LOVE those stearing wheels, came in firebird and Camaro's too. I like them because it's relaxing pushing them in they are nice and squishy it's like popping the bubble plastic " in a sense "
