Thank you and the people that gave you permission to make this video. I am grateful for what you gave us and wish there was more. I would like to have seen you walk from one place to another instead of just seeing you suddenly appear in a different room or a different place.

Used to enter this mansion at night many times in the late 70s early 80s. Never saw the kitchen before nor did we ever see the tape outlining the site of the dead bodies. Stayed one night in the mechanic's room which was near the fire house in an upstairs apt. and it was so quiet and scary. There also was a pool in the woods that had been cemented with a great dressing paviliion. The ultimate west coast Great Gatsby Mansion.
very well done , I definately recognize it from many movies , had no idea it was the same place so many times , very cool , I enjoyed that greatly , thanks for sharing.
Simply loved this video and how you documented the inside of the this beautiful mansion. We have visited this location some time ago, but where not inside of the building. Thank you for taking us inside to look around. We have linked to your video from our database. Great job!
I am shocked that no one mentioned the weekly exposure this estate recieved in the 80s for 4 years. This was the tv home of Wilton Knight, the founder of The Foundation for Law and Government, the chief asset being a tall Micheal Knight and his black car KITT. Knight Rider featured plenty of exterior shots of the estate during its run.
I went to school there when it was the American Film Institute in the 1970s. They didn't even show the tennis courts or pool area. Always fun to recognize it in film an television shows...
So many television shows and movies filmed in & around Greystone Mansion! Just a few here... Honey West 1965 The Loved One '65 Madame X '66 All of Me '84 Jumpin' Jack Flash '86 Easy Street (Loni Anderson TV show-exterior)
Madame X starring Lana Turner, exterior - opening scene, was filmed at the Letts mansion on Charing Road in Bel Air. It would later be bought by Hugh Hefner, who turned it into the world famous Playboy Mansion West.
I visited Greystone with my late mother, it is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!! the wood work is amazing that it still is there!!!!! I don't think people appreciate this home or the history, if you aren't allowed in, ok, deal with it!!! The rest is spectacular!!!!!!!!! AND MOST IMPORTANT, IT WS A HOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great vid! One point I assume that is one building that is 46k sq ft, San Simeon is several Buildings that total almost 100k sq ft!😎😉😁 I wish you could have shown the detail in the carvings!😐 Also more of the manse😁😉😎🏰 subbed just now & 👍
What a crime to paint over the beautiful hand carved balustrades and paneling. They did a beautiful job sandblasting that awful paint off and restoring the carved woodwork back to its original beauty. Mr. Doheny hired the perfect architect with impeccable taste. Greystone is the most beautiful large house I've ever seen. All that hand carved woodwork and inlaid marble and wood floors are so beautiful. Mr. Doheny was such a good father to gift his as son such a magnificent house. What a terrible tragedy he was murdered and didn't get the chance to enjoy his father's gift.
Rob Johnson I haven’t ...I certainly hope you don’t go apeshit… Although I think that was more what Roddy McDowall did. I am simply curious how you assumed that I was going ‘apeshit’ with a simple statement.
We talked to the city of BH about that and offered them a suggestion. Have designers pay to furnish each room with their name on each. I agree, a home like this should have furniture to match the home. Beautiful place!
You are correct, most do. Been in a few that don't, but for the most part they do. Anything that is massive and a large undertaking usually comes with great sacrifice somewhere during the project.
@@DaltonPictures always wondered where the room where the dude meets the big lebowski was shot at. I'm an architectural historian and I stumbled upon this video by accident and immediately recognized the room. Thanks!
These nouveau riche of the early twentieth century dedicated themselves to plundering in Spain, dismantled stone by stone, castles and abbeys from the Renaissance, to incorporate it into their new mansions as decorative architectural elements, and impress their friends.
🙄🙄🙄 Go cry about it, that’s just literally the course of history. The Spaniards plundered the cities of the Inca and the Aztecs, who cares? That’s just how the world works.
Actually it's called greed and corruption paying for Fabulous wealth! Doheny Sr. was heavily Involved and implicated in the infamous Teapot Dome Scandal. It's sad disturbing to know that 9 months after that mansion was completed, his son was murdered In 1 of the newly completed guest rooms.
There is no way on God's earth this house was built in 1928 Lively film btw and wonderful to see such a house close up. Just look at pictures and film of 1928, the people did not have the skills to build this huge house, it was there long before and built by a people that we have been not informed of. These buildings are all over the world and all unexplained by the silly local stories The should be construction pictures and knolegde There will post drawn plans not any architectural drawing with weights loads and real planning info Let's use our rational not belief Still a great film thank you 🙇♀️
Which of the five children was your grandparent? I hate the way all of these sites make up b.s. stories about how Ned died and who killed him. Margaret Davis' book "Dark Side of Fortune" covers the murder factually and properly.
I and a few friends spent the night there in the 1980”s we were let in by discloses person. The bowling alley was original wood with hidden bar behind wooden wall. Blood stain was still visible in Mr. Doheneys room.
"Dead Ringer" in 1964 staring Bette Davis was filmed at Greystone. Actually a pretty good movie costaring Karl Malden and Peter Lawford.
Spider-Man was also filmed there
The day Mars invaded earth is what brought me in awe of this beautiful property. 👍
Love this house used in the 1991 NBC series DARK SHADOWS!!

The kitchen is very similar to Filoli. Closets, stove and even the floor!
i had a tour in 1992, My Uncle worked there for the city. Its beautiful

@8:28, I thought that bowling alley was from, There Will Be Blood.
Daniel Day Lewis in, There will be Blood is correct.
Isn’t his character actually supposed to be mr. doheny sr? The story of how he was first to get oil out of California
Great video thanks for sharing only too bad you didn't put in comparison pictures from when it was lived in
I like American old 100 years ago,I am in the uk the church I was christened in is a 1000 years old
Why not show the floors and the stair railings closely so people can appreciate the details you are giving?
The black and white checkered floor says it all.
Nice narration. Do you know if that was the same Doheny as Doheny state beach ?
They also filmed the end death scene of the 1989 movie Flowers in the attic.
Beautiful place with a lot of history.

More importantly, Gilmore Girls was filmed there!!! :P :P :P
"Get Out!" heard at 0.25 quarter playback speed @ :31 seconds. Sounds like Ned. Again @ :39 seconds
No portion of Greystone mansion appears at all in Star Trek the motion picture. However it does appear for a moment in Star Trek Into Darkness
We were going off a list that the City of Beverly Hills had given us.
Thank you for catching this.

The film "the Golden Child" with Eddie Murphy was filmed here. And i believe the new series with Chris Pine was also....
Why is there no period furniture in the place?
We talked to the city of BH about that and offered them a suggestion.
Have designers pay to furnish each room with their name on each.
I agree, a home like this should have furniture to match the home.
Beautiful place!
If I'm not wrong "The Witches of Eastwick" movie also shot there.
You are correct! Exteriors filmed at Castle Hill in Ipswich, Massachusetts while some of the interiors were filmed at the Greystone Mansion.
So where the orchestra plays is called a ‘minstrels gallery’.
Gabby McClymont, yes it is!
Gee I keep getting kicked out of Greystone for not having a film permit from the city of Beverly Hills. Nice tour.
Thank You!
A friend and I visited there that day.
It was a beautiful and rather warm almost hot day.
There a Bay Area fire we could see the smoke as we drove home.

That mask scared the living soul outta me. I’m watching this at 1 am in the dark😂
I would love to know what happened in 1929..??
I'm writing a fantasy story based on my experiences going to Greystone back in the late 90's. The story is called "Hall of Mirrors".
If those walls could talk!
Will look forward to reading it.
The interior of the playboy mansion is similar as well
Creepy but great story
Thank you Daniel!
They filmed Meat Loaf I'd do anything love music video there also
Was this the mansion on rockstar?
Yes it was. It has been used in a lot of movies.

Some people just have to much money!
