It's no exaggeration to say this podcast probably wouldn't exist without the everlasting influence of Ludwig van Beethoven on music. This guy sucks so much he basically invented it. This guy sucks so bad it killed classical music entirely - which is actually pretty awesome, not gonna lie. This guy sucks so hard we had to make a long episode AND A NEW T-SHIRT about it...

Hate Beethoven. The Moonlight Sonata is amazing. I'd bet you haven't heard the 3rd movement. It's a fucking joy to play. Very rich and LOADED with themes compared to his other work.
This podcast is single handedly destroying music and I support it.
Maybe if people actually listened to it it would
But these podcasts won't make me stop listening to music
@@angelo8304 Not really. They are snarky, cynical and overly critical for comedic effect, it's a good trick but a trick nonetheless.
@@NothingHumanisAlientoMe I said it won't though

I'm a terrible listener - like most musicians I only exist to create noise...
"Your Favorite Band Sucks"
(doesn't talk about the music at all)
hayden fields it says your favorite band sucks, not music
Joseph Singleton well I was just saying it's more interesting this way. Nobody wants to listen to "your favorite music sucks"
hayden fields i literally never ridiculed Beethoven
hayden fields and no I don't admire barbaric cultures that kill innocent people
Joseph Singleton I mean I listen to the podcast even about bands I like. I just think it's funny
There are more emotionally compelling composers such as Stravinsky, Bartok, Puccini, but there is no denying that Beethoven was a very skillful composer and pianist. Just the fact that people sit down for weeks to learn a sonata of his 300 years after his birth is mind boggling. This was entertaining to listen to but I didn't find it as insightful as some of your other episodes on rock bands.
Didn’t hear much about why his music supposedly sucks
there's plenty of episodes where they don't talk about the music much
Deaf ?
Music is dead but at least comedy is still decent.. Wait that’s also terrible and derivative and uninspired now. At least the movies are good...Oh yeah I forgot those suck too.
Everyone and everything is bad.
I feel better somehow!
Another "Music is dead" person...ugh
Don't say that, not true, man...
Nothing is good, nothing was good. What's the point of living?
Well at least Limp Bizkit still exists
I'm a composer and, dont matter your arguments, the body of work of Beethoven is so consistent, that even if you dont like or resonate with him, you can't denny the musical weight of his work.
I think these guys are sarcastic.
I agree Beethoven is the equivalent of a dennys
@@iforget6940 i think they are retarded...
@@iforget6940 I don't think they really hate all of the artists. Some they really do hate, others not so much. I believe they point out the flaws that many music listeners refuse to acknowledge. They also provide a lot of information that many musicians had issues with their own music. Or that many musicians admit their limitations.
@HappyRoach1 maybe the listeners just like their music, and it doesn't matter what anyone thinks

Agreed! Say what you will of Beethoven but let's leave mozart out of this hahaha
The argument being made here makes no sense. People still listen to Beethoven today, now that it can be recorded. And it is both rich and poor who love his music today. Saying that someone sucked because only wealthy people could commission him is the dumbest thing I have ever heard.
If that truly is, as you put it, "the dumbest thing you've ever heard" then you have lived a charmed life for sure
@@setharmstrong3502 Thank you for commenting. I probably have lived quite a charmed life compared to many. I've never had to go hungry, never gone to war. And, although the weather doesn't look good on this one, at least for the moment I have the freedom to practice my religion. Notwithstanding, I have still faced many hardships within what some would consider a cobbled life. I do wonder if someone, such as yourself, who has enough free time to make silly jabs at people in the you tube comment section, have lived quite the coddled life as well. God knows really. Regardless, I take no offense at what was likely intended as offensive against me in this particular case. Perhaps if you do a better job at insulting me next time I'll take it more personally.
It is often the case that people exaggerate in a statement to make a distinct point. In this case, I used this technique, as used by many others in the English language, to point out that the statement I was referring to was extremely dumb. I suppose I could have just said that it was idiotic and moved on. But the wonderful thing about the English language is that there is a great variety of vocabulary and phrasing to basically say the same thing.
With so many stupid things being said, as you politely pointed out (such as your own comment against me for instance), I think I would grow tired of reciting the same exact phrase in each case. So I am one to enjoy spicing up a phrase now and then. Most of the time no offense is taken, at least not by the technique itself, since only a slight rarity of the population would take it so literally. Having Asperger's myself, I certainly understand how such things can be taken literally. But in this case, it was obviously not intended as so. Have a nice day.

@@zogwort1522 There's an incredible amount of counterpoint in pretty much all major composers' music. They aren't "riffs", they're motives. And then they go through processes of motivic development. Bach did it. Mozart and Haydn did it. Beethoven did it. Berlioz did it. Rachmaninoff did it. Schoenberg did it. Philip Glass did it. @@garlandstrife They’re such a great band, the dynamic between each member was incredible. That was a once in a generation musical act IMO. I might sound completely nuts, but I think that they were the most musically rebellious and genius band of the late 20th century in their prime. They weren’t the product of some group of execs at a label or a fad, and the music that they made is kickass and still sounds like the future of rock music. THANK YOU for bringing up the point of "you can't have an opinion unless you've done it" that's literally the dumbest concept I've come across in a while. Sometimes I just lose hope in this world. Good episode by the way.

If "My Chemical Beethoven" was a real band, I'd go check em out. It would no doubt be awful, but I'd go to that show
Beethoven has been called "The First Rock Star", and you guys equating him with the genre (snark and all) make a good case for why he *doesn't* suck
Bach was a ham/ show-off rock star. He ripped Vivaldi note for note. Mozart was a world renowned rock star by age 5. Almost half a century before Beethoven started copying both their notes... Paganini was really the first all out, sold his soul to the devil, feinting ladies throwing panties at his face.... Beethoven is more like Trent Reznor; born after all the rock stars died

Funny how they complain about classical music pieces all having numbers in their titles, didn't Led Zeppelin and Chicago also number all their albums?
They numbered their albums. Which are a collection of songs, they didn't number each individual song. Funny how you lack enough basic cognitive skills to even complain properly.

Are these guys are joking? i mean seriously is this some kind of dry humor or something? Not offensive, i just really don't get it
No, they are not.
I never realized that the fact that i literally wrote a 90 minute symphony in guitar pro when i was in high school uniquely gives me the authority to critique mozart, but im going to run with that, forever.
Beethoven > Haydn > Mozart
I like all three, I get the Haydn love and understand the Beethoven hate but he's still the best. He also kinda killed classical but he's truly a step above, IMO.
What about Francis Scott Keys star spangled banner ? 😂
He wrote new lyrics over a drinking song where's the problem

I think I'm unsubing after this
It's not coincidence he was prominent in the clockwork Orange
The observation that Beethoven is ONLY played during horrific scenes in movies is on fucking point. I had to sing Symphony No. 9 in college and the only way I could enjoy that was by replaying the corresponding scene in Evangelion in my head while I was singing. Most people only know the main melody of that song, but when you have to sing the whole thing the structure of it makes absolute zero sense in terms of "what am I supposed to feel here". The only reason it works in that show is the uncanny scramble of emotions going on in the scene.

Tyler's dad is a notable country musician (David Allan Coe) and Tyler spent a while going on tour with him. Mark was a non musician concert promoter for a while.
Beethoven is kinda like the QUEEN of classical music. Lotta repetitive "hooks" smashed into your head juxtaposed against random melodies with zero transitions to hold it together.
Edgy.
@@haydenfields3900 Classical music snobs are fucking annoying. I played violin from when I was 4 to when I was 18. Loved a lot of stuff I got to play from Vivaldi, Bach, Kandinsky, Korsakov. I’m not a dummy. I just have zero reverence for the distinction between what is a “riff”, a “hook” a “melody” a “groove” whatever you want to call it. Its just a musical idea. Classical snobs get on your ass if you call then songs instead of compositions. I learned way more about music exploring things at my own pace and enjoying shit for what it is than I ever did in classical training.
@@haydenfields3900 Classical fans get a false sense of superiority by cramming their heads with academic theory and shaming anybody who doesn't care enough to use all the correct words their teacher told them to use. Look, having performed Symphony no. 9's 5th movement in college multiple times I can tell you that is one of the most miserable performing experiences I've ever had. There's the parts of that piece everybody likes and recognizes and then there's a another 10 minutes of filler. Really annoying melodies that go nowhere, shit that's atonal for the sake of atonality. Not to mention Beethoven had zero regard for the people that would actually be singing this shit so it strains the fuck out of you practicing it. And by about halfway through the movement it turns into musical mush as it drifts from one idea to the next. It feels less like a concentrated execution of a singular idea, and more like Mozart put 5 unfinished songs in the middle of it for padding. It has it's great moments, sure, but for every goosebumps inducing minute there's about 4 other minutes of music the audience pretty much tunes out to. In my experience: especially with a lot of Russian 19th c. orchestra music, you stay gripped from beginning to end. "keeping the audience guessing" was a cheap trick Beethoven used instead of writing truly compelling music. I CHALLENGE you to find a piece in his catalogue as good as Korsakov's "scheherazade". Or as effortless as Vivaldi's "Concerto in A minor"
@@FreudsBoys or as effortless bang as Tchaikovsky’s Cannon Symphony. Beethoven is overrated.

The only tolerable- enjoyable- tier of classical music is the romantic era ~1830-1900. So one could venture to say thats because it became more practical and actually inventive, and modernized.
This is the dumbest thing Ive read today. The Romantic era is easily the most overrated. How can you call Bach “intolerable,” and just because you may not enjoy or appreciate what classical musicians have accomplished in the past 100 years doesnt mean its trash either.
Y’all gotta go in on Scott Joplin next
Scott Joplin is the opposite of suck
Beethoven does sound like music that takes itself too seriously, written by a Byronic emotionally stunted grump who can't use his words so turns to music to display his grandiosity (just my imagination here). His neverending finales tease his audience out their free time (and my patience). Special mention for the Pathétique Sonata, just as insufferable as Fur Elise and Moonlight Sonata (2nd movement). Beethoven did pave the way for romanticism and I now find Chopin much more charming than Mr. B.. Oh, honourable mention for the 7th Symphony (2nd movement) which sounds beautiful to me. And also, that Beethoven is a running gag in Charlie Brown... Even Snoopy finds Beethoven funny...
But I say instrumental from the score of a movie not crappsical music as I like to call it
