Roy Clark was known for his comic stylings, especially from the show Hee Haw, but most people don't know how outstanding a musician he was. He played multiple instruments & every one of them he played well.

@@marieoleary527 : Yea, Charo is a real flamenco guitarist (studied under Andres Segovia, one of my favorite players, and a serious legend), and as a decades long teacher of guitar, flamenco is the hardest to master. I would also suggest Paco De Lucia (another of my favorite players), or Carlos Montoya (generally considered the father of modern flamenco guitar).

Roy Clark was known as one of the best at the time. Played multiple instruments. He was once asked who he thought was the best player
Was. He said he was good , but the best he had seen was a guy out of Detroit named Johnny B Odom. But he just could not stay off the sauce.
That was my mother's first cousin. It was true , I heard that all my life how
Good he was but he was an alcoholic and could not stop drinking.
Roy, Chet Atkins, and Glenn Cambell were all MASTER GUITAR PLAYERS.
I use to love watching Roy play, or any of these guys. So many of these old guys and most of the old blues players have passed.

I was lucky that my Dad took me to Wichita, Ks. to see Roy play at a concert and he played Malaguena ( Mal-uh-gwayn-yuh pretty close phonetically to how it was pronounced ). I watched most of the Hee Haw shows too and Roy and Buck Owens always put on a good duet or three each show. He was a true master that picked up where Chet Atkins left off. May they both RIP, they are missed.

Jamel, I started to learn to play guitar about two years ago at the age of 52. There is no better time to learn than when you realize that you want to play. "If not now, when?" was the question that I asked my self back then. I have no illusion that I will ever get "good" at it. I practice about 30 minutes a day give or take. It gives my mind a break, and I almost always feel better afterwards. I've found the best thing about it is that it has given me a much greater appreciation for people like Roy Clark. It is even more impressive now I know what they are actually doing on the instrument. Plus, once you can play a few songs, your wife and family can sing while you play. What better quality time is there than enjoying music with the family? That's how is was done before records and radio.

If not now, when? Is always the right question to ask. I've played quite a while, but I ask myself that every time I go to learn something new. Also, as long as you're good enough to enjoy it, you're good.

When I was in high school, I belonged to a club that provided ushers for a venue that normally hosted classical concerts and we always got to stay and watch the concerts for free. As luck would have it, that was where Roy Clark chose to perform. I pretty much spent the whole time with my jaw on the floor. The man was amazing, and this is the song he played that impressed me the most.

Watched him in Branson, play this on an Ovation 12 string. I quit trying to play guitar after that. I wasn't worthy. Roy Clark was above the guitar Gods, and nobody will ever come close to the ability and talent Roy had in his pinky finger, let alone the other nine.

Roy Clark, Buck Owens, Marty Robbins are all great classic western music artists. Old Hee Haw sketches are dated but hilarious. Lesser known Marty Robbin’s songs are Big Iron, Faleena (*El Paso pt 2 - the before story)

He also sings. He also played on the tv show Hee Haw. Guitar player the best. He can play the crap out of a banjo too , he played it a lot on Hee Haw. But there's not an instrument he can't play. Check out Hee Haw, the show had special guest each week like Dolly Parton,, Johnny Cash,, Loretta Lynn,,& many more.

Roy Clark is one of the most underrated guitarists ever. He never got the respect he deserved as a musician because he was kind of goofy and made a lot of jokes. Plus, he did goofy shows like Hee-Haw and stuff. So a lot of people didn't realize just how good he was. But he was one of the best. He was also a kind and humble man. No one who knew him ever had a bad word to say about him.

"Malaguena" is a Classical music guitar instrumental, which is usually performed on an acoustic guitar in the Spanish style. Roy Clark most likely recorded this instrumental sometime in his career. Chet Atkins also recorded his rendition of "Malaguena" in 1956.
