I think it's more than that. He's clearly trying to win COTY and his strategy is to take as many battles as possible, without taking any losses. The problem is, when you're battling every 2 or 3 weeks you don't have time to craft a cohesive, unique, edited 3 round performance. So he compensates with quantity over quality. So far he's mostly gotten away with it but that's largely due to the people he's been battling. Jaz and Bigg K were his 2 toughest opponents and I'd say they were both clear losses. His strategy certainly wouldn't work against someone like Illmac or Lux.
