  • Paul Andersen starts with a brief description of diffusion and osmosis. He then describes the diffusion demonstration and how molecules move over time. He then explains the concepts behind the osmosis lab and how potatoes are affected by increasing sucrose molarity.

    My bio teacher gives us lots of video sheets for these videos, to make sure students actually watch the video. In my opinion (and probably my teacher's opinion, too), you'd be a fool to skip out on these videos. Bozeman science is able to help you understand what your teacher can't get you to understand. Even if you do understand the subject, watching these videos is still a great way to retain that knowledge. I'm glad my bio teacher is tech savvy and shows us these vids!

    You said from hypotonic to hypertonic, but isn't the high concentration of water to low (inside the potato) hyper to hypo?

    For this lab in my AP class, we have to do an investigative inquiry and change ONE variable in either experiment. Any suggestions? Me and my partner thought we might try switching the water to milk in the POTATO LAB but would that work considering you're measuring water potential?

    With the potato in 1.0M of sugar, why does it lose water? Does sugar suck it out some how? Why does water not fill it in?

    • @nicoletrappe9235
      @nicoletrappe9235 8 років тому

      +Omari Thompson The solution that the potato is so hypertonic to the composition of the potato that the water in the potato will come out and try to equalize the solution that it is in because it has a high concentration. AKA high concentration in the outside= water rushes to outside= potato loses mass

  • @alexross26
    @alexross26 8 років тому

    What do you mean by the molarity of potatoes? Do you mean sugar concentration in the potatoes?
