- What is Osmosis? Osmosis is defined as the process by which the molecules of a solvent pass from a low concentration solute to a high concentration solute through a semi-permeable membrane.
This video demonstrates osmosis in potatoes with a simple experiment. We will need 3 potatoes - 2 raw and 1 boiled, 1 vegetable peeler/ knife, salt, and water.

Wonderful 🌾
Thank you so much for appreciating the video. Hope we can serve you with more such informative videos.
What happened with the potato that does not have no salt?
👍🏻👍🏻
What does he cavity represent in the actual plant cell
Nothing. It only to get the potato no need to be immerse in the water. The cavity will hold the water
I tried this 👍👍
Great !Did it work?
Need good quality of mic
Noted . Thanks
Voice was fine but the it was low...
What’s the point of have a third raw potato with no salt???
Yes the demonstration can be done by using 1 boiled and 1 raw potato also :)
As a control
Why did my water inside the potato decrease?
Hi. Please see if you have followed the steps of the experiment clearly :
1). See if you just added water outside the potato and not inside the potato
2). See if you added only salt in the potatoes and no water with the salt
3). Water outside the potatoes has no solute mixed in it. Hence it is said to be Hypotonic
4). The area inside the potato is hypertonic as it has high level of salt in it
5). Hence due to Osmosis , water will try to pass through the semi permeable membrane to an area where there are less number of free water molecules and hence water will enter the raw potato with salt .
