My grandmother had one and kept her in a cage with little to no attention and zero toys because “she breaks them”. now we have her and we want her to get used to us (my father, mother, brother, and I). We honestly don’t know what to do. Whenever we think she’s getting used to us she tries to bite one of us. She’s also not the biggest talker, we’ve noticed that when she feels lonely she starts to scream to get our attention. We move her cage around the house and sometimes even take her outside in the cage, she’s not used to being outside of it. Do you have any advice for us?
Very nice and interesting video.. I just subscribed.. Hello, please advise me on which is the most correct approach: Padulo (10-year-old blue-faced Amazon) lives in a large cage, but at lunchtime and at dinner time I let him get out for an hour or two .. during this time he spends most of the time on my shoulder , doesn't show much interest in exploring or wandering around. He is usually very sweet and lets me caress him on his head, he uses to take my fingers with his beak but with no intention of hurting. Then suddenly, even on the same day, it happens that I try to caress him, but he growls instead, opens his beak towards my hand with a threatening attitude, If I do not withdraw my hand he bites hard, although he rarely can make cuts on my skin.. Now what I ask is, why does he change his mood so suddenly, even on the same day? How should I behave when he doesn't want to be touched? someone says that I should insist and let him bite without showing any reaction, others say that his desire not to be touched should be respected when he doesn't want to. please help me...
Adolfo Melilli I sincerely wish I knew the answer. I have six Amazons, all with different personalities. One of them, my Maggie sounds just like your baby. She begs to be held but then for no reason will sometimes just bite me. Amazons are extremely moody and unpredictable. I’ve asked others about this and have not gotten any good answers. When I do get bitten I simply put her back on her perch and ignore her as punishment. When she is being nice to me I gave her peanuts as a reward. I hope you can straighten out your babies attitude. Best of luck! Sorry I don’t have a better answer.
@@Wherepigsflyfarm ok thanks anyway, I read somewhere else too that Amazons are among the most difficult parrots to deal with, because of their bizarre personality. my baby shows a bad attitude randomly, woud say reraly...then, even on the same day, he's sweet and well disposed as if nothing had happened.. So... you use to punish him... do you? I use to pretend his bite did not hurt me at all (it's tough to pretend, sometimes it's quite painful!) :-)

After I move out of college, I plan on getting one male bird. Would you recommend a Senegal or Amazon? also, I was not expecting a video from someone only an hour drive away! (I'm an MST student). Anyway, Im stuck between those two. Any recommendations or tips/tricks would be great!
I adopted a 17 yr old amazon from an in-law that kept him caged 95% of the time. He’s very aggressive even coming down from his cage to bite me when I’m not looking. I’ve only had him 3 months. He is an angry bird but I do see hope as I catch him on his back playing. Is another bird/parrot/amazon something that will make him happy? I just want him to have a good life
jprielip Oh I can feel your pain. It’s hard to say what a friendship will do. I have a very aggressive Amazon also. He will fly at me and attack. He did befriend one of the other Amazons, ironically, that Amazon then became aggressive. I’m praying he doesn’t make any more friends in my bird room. 😂 When I give him peanuts as a treat he is less aggressive. He also focuses more on eating and less on attacking. Have you tried treats? Amazons can be very unpredictable.
They require continuous attention and love.Unconditional love. Never ever hurt or neglect them. Exrteemly intelligent, but they aren't very forgiving and will remember any trauma FOREVER .
They need a lot of time out and interaction and handling everyday. I would've d go to Bird Tricks. They are great. It takes courage to work wit Amazon's.
African Grey parrots are the best talkers not Amazon parrots. Beautiful birds though but too noisy for me. I've had my Grey from a 3 month old baby. He will be 17 in May. Totally different to the Amazon species.
Please, tell me how better to hold as a pet, one or one pair of blue fronted amazon? I have a boy (near 4 years old ) and recent i got an 8 months old girl for him. In the last few weeks, he's become aggressive towards me. Will it be permanent or shortly? What am I supposed to do to keep him on my side? Thanks! I am very anxious and nervous about his attitude and I would like to know if he will return to me as he was before or not. What should I do? I am a poor old man who has in this world only a parrot and a few dollars a day, the vets ask me many hundreds of dollars for a little advice. Shame on them! Please can someone help me with a free advice. Thank you !
My mother had a male Amazon parrots for more than 20 years, he is exact like the one on this video and after months that my mother passed away, he started laying eggs, the first egg a month ago, then a week ago he laid the second, the next day he laid the third, and this week he laid a fourth! 😱 it is normal?? What should we do ? ….please advise me 🙏🏻
Do you ever adopt out? Or just a sanctuary? I have a 2 year old girl green cheek mia and love her was just wondering the difference between rescues and sanctuary
Interesting! I love parrots but at this point in my life it wouldn’t be responsible to have one. However I would love to volunteer at a parrot rescue to gain experience with them, but I don’t know where there are rescues in Ohio for parrots.
I have a male Amazon ( he's 9 yrs old) I have owned him for a year almost. I hear him whistle and talk when I'm not in the room... but when I am I can only get him to say peanut please and night night. How do I encourage him to talk to me when I'm in the same room as him
Honestly that’s still something I have not figured out. Mine do talk like crazy when it’s just me, but when others are around they clan up like shy kids. They definitely have a mind of their own and act like two year old kids. Just keep Talking to him. Hopefully he’ll come out of his shell. 😊
@@austinnakia it depends on how much time you have for him/her. They are definitely high maintenance and noisy. Be prepared to have a “newborn” in the house. ❤️😊 If you have the time and patience I say “Yes”. If it’s just a novelty idea. Definitely not.
Hi there, I have an amazon parrot and he is an extremely picky eater.......he does not like to eat veggies and hardly eats any fruits....i have tried all different of ways to get him to eat the veggies and fruits..... he only wants to eat seeds....
Diana Guerrero lol, out of my six Amazons there are only two that I will allow on my shoulder. They really are moody birds. 😂 If you would like to come out and visit sometime send me your address I will send you some free passes.
Thank you, but I live in another country. I totally adore my life-long buddy Amazon, he makes life fun and worth living and is the love of my life. But I wouldn’t want to have a chunk taken out of my face or lose an eye if he tries to protect me from a perceived threat. Have a great day.
That seems to be the norm for Amazon’s. Even my girls that are good will occasionally bite...matter of fact I got bit this morning on the face. Amazon’s are so unpredictable...and always very loud. Thankfully mine are in another building and not in my house. 😊
I'm not a huge fan of bigger birds; I like birds based on the personality. I met this one once, (I forget what type of Amazon) and we just clicked immediately. I'd never been like that with a bird before, I don't know if it's the species, or specifically that bird, but I'm interested. I really want to know if this is the right type of bird for me because that one bird was a charmer, and we got along so well. It was weird because he was a pet-store bird too, and they usually aren't nice, but that one saw me, and I could just tell that we had a special connection. Anybody else know what I'm talking about? 😂
i want one i want one please, i love parrots to my core and i'm waiting to finish my college to buy either double yellow headed amazon or blue fronted amazon. Also, which one do recommend i should buy?
i have a yellow headed amazon and i need ro know everything and anything that you can tell me! i don't know its age or sex ,i know that i love my baby and need to learn everything and anything there is to know about this bird.
You should take it to an aviary vet to have it sexed. Not sure if they will be able to tell you the age… I would watch as many videos as you can on the birds. There’s so much to know.
annette vandepeer no worries! Sounds like you are up-to-date on your knowledge. That’s a good thing! If you would like a couple of free tickets to the farm please email me your mailing address. 😊 Cindy@wherepigsflyfarm.com
We don’t feed our Amazon’s meat. You can give them small amounts of chicken if you would like on occasion…but too much protein can lead to health issues. Hopefully this helps. 😊
I currently have a cockatiel which I’ve had for two years and I’m looking to get a second bird. I know that bigger birds tend to have bigger personalities and that’s what I want in my next bird, I’m looking for one completely different from my first bird. I’m a little stuck between getting a caique, Senegal or an Amazon. Could you help with telling me which one would be the best for me?? Some traits I really would like is -more cuddly (my cockatiel just likes to stare at me he doesn’t really let me cuddle him) - talking would be awesome but it’s not a must - not so moody, or atleast shows warning if it wants to bite (my cockatiel is so moody and I love him so much but it’s a little upsetting cause it’s hard to spend a lot of time with him physically) - also what one is the most quiet out of the three? Noise isn’t too much of an issue though
p̶e̶a̶c̶h̶t̶e̶a̶ Honestly, I have found that animals are similar to people each seems to have its own individual personality. Though, I have had two Senegal parrots and both of them have been absolutely wonderful, I would have to say they are my favorite. I have also had two cockatoos who have been absolutely wonderful. Though, I’ve had other people tell me that they are extremely moody. Hopefully this helps. My girl is out with me 5 hours every even after work and all weekend long plus I take her everywhere with me! Totally bonded was thinking about an amazon as my next bird after much more research
why are thay sooo cute
Love the video, I would love to adopt a bird, some day. Not right now cause I have cat. Just resurching on different birds for first time bird owners. Thanks for the video.
That looks like too much work for the 1 day I wanna have a party and impress my friends with a talking bird lol, and definitely not in an apartment! haha
I had a amazon over 20yrs. He passed away a few months ago. I got him as an adult. He was such a big part of my life....finding it hard to move on! Do you adopt out???
Hi there, we have a yellow head parrot and she is about 18 years. They are amazing Birds and I would like to know more about Parrots.
Cuteeeeeee♥️
Hello , I also have a double yellow head anazon parrot. But how can you tell the difference between a male and female parrot
@@ramonduarte3684 the Parrots I have rescued have been sexed. I think you could probably go online and find a place that will do a DNA testing. You simply send in a feather. That’s what I’ve heard anyways.
Thank u for the video I truly enjoy it. Where r u located. I have Amazon parrot she use to talk a lot.But she bound it w/my African grey. She truly change a lot
I have an amazon parrot named Leonardo
That is awesome! Do you live close by? Or plan to travel through Missouri? Text me your address and I will send you a couple of free tickets, would be great to meet you. 314-241-3488. 😊
@@Wherepigsflyfarm Sadly I dont have any plans to go to Missouri, but thanks for the offer
Hello, please advise me on which is the most correct approach:
Padulo (10-year-old blue-faced Amazon) lives in a large cage, but at lunchtime and at dinner time I let him get out for an hour or two .. during this time he spends most of the time on my shoulder , doesn't show much interest in exploring or wandering around.
Hi what a very nice video of your birds.bless your heart for rescueing these birds.I have a yellow nape Amazon parrot he is 26 years young I got him as a baby and I hand fed him and I will have him my whole life time.your farm looks so wonderful.I grew up with birds my whole life time.so I love all birds.they are very smart they understand alot.my angel means the world to me.yes adopt don't shop.i just scribered to your channel.this video is cute
ANGEL FRANK Thank you so much for the comment. It’s nice to know there are people out there like you! I am looking forward to seeing you at the farm. If you email me your address I will mail you your tickets. Thank you also for subscribing!!! 😊
@@Wherepigsflyfarm hi I live in NY.I would love to come their but if is out of state I won't be able to go but thanks so much.It so nice to see you.have a wonderful weekend
I recently rescued a female blue fronted amazon she will get on my hand but likes to bite when she does
After I move out of college, I plan on getting one male bird.
When I give him peanuts as a treat he is less aggressive.
I love Patriots they are so beautiful. Nut we dont fine them where we live.in new Mexico. Las cruces. I wish I haded on .🐦🐦🐦
Please, tell me how better to hold as a pet, one or one pair of blue fronted amazon? I have a boy (near 4 years old ) and recent i got an 8 months old girl for him. In the last few weeks, he's become aggressive towards me. Will it be permanent or shortly? What am I supposed to do to keep him on my side? Thanks! I am very anxious and nervous about his attitude and I would like to know if he will return to me as he was before or not. What should I do? I am a poor old man who has in this world only a parrot and a few dollars a day, the vets ask me many hundreds of dollars for a little advice. Shame on them! Please can someone help me with a free advice. Thank you !
Is the beak a bit too long in a couple of your birds? How is that fixed ?
My mother had a male Amazon parrots for more than 20 years, he is exact like the one on this video and after months that my mother passed away, he started laying eggs, the first egg a month ago, then a week ago he laid the second, the next day he laid the third, and this week he laid a fourth! 😱 it is normal?? What should we do ? ….please advise me 🙏🏻
hi I have a Yello head parrot fo the past 7 years he is loosing the shine on his feathers any help will be appreciated
Just keep
Talking to him. Hopefully he’ll come out of his shell. 😊
Is it advised to adopt a 4 year old Double yellow headed Amazon?
@@austinnakia it depends on how much time you have for him/her. They are definitely high maintenance and noisy. Be prepared to have a “newborn” in the house. ❤️😊
If you have the time and patience I say “Yes”.
I would never allow an Amazon on my shoulder. Even an Amigo.
Diana Guerrero lol, out of my six Amazons there are only two that I will allow on my shoulder. They really are moody birds. 😂
If you would like to come out and visit sometime send me your address I will send you some free passes.
Thank you, but I live in another country. I totally adore my life-long buddy Amazon, he makes life fun and worth living and is the love of my life. But I wouldn’t want to have a chunk taken out of my face or lose an eye if he tries to protect me from a perceived threat. Have a great day.
I have a 32 yr old blue front he lives on a tree in my living room he has only seen a cage very spoiled he eats just about everything I eat
Do you guys sell birds? If so do you have a website?

@@Wherepigsflyfarm I'd wish I lived closer but this would be my dream to work with animals!
i have a amazon my only complain about her is she bites me from time to time as a game and in the mornings she really really loud
How do I make my amazon teen yellow head parrot stop. Acting agressive. With me l. When he used to love me before.
It's normal for them. They are very unpredictable and get moody often.
i have a yellow headed amazon and i need ro know everything and anything that you can tell me! i don't know its age or sex ,i know that i love my baby and need to learn everything and anything there is to know about this bird.
You should take it to an aviary vet to have it sexed. Not sure if they will be able to tell you the age… I would watch as many videos as you can on the birds. There’s so much to know.
I have a orangewing parrot name Rocky i ❤him someone abuse him now got him thankyou video

What is the best way to interact with a Amazon who has had no interaction? Prior
@@JoseGarcia-oi1wi lots of patience…and treats. It’s not an easy road.
What kind of meat can you feed amazon parrots
We don’t feed our Amazon’s meat. You can give them small amounts of chicken if you would like on occasion…but too much protein can lead to health issues. Hopefully this helps. 😊
Which Is the smallest Amazon?
white fronted amazon
I currently have a cockatiel which I’ve had for two years and I’m looking to get a second bird. I know that bigger birds tend to have bigger personalities and that’s what I want in my next bird, I’m looking for one completely different from my first bird. I’m a little stuck between getting a caique, Senegal or an Amazon. Could you help with telling me which one would be the best for me??
Some traits I really would like is
-more cuddly (my cockatiel just likes to stare at me he doesn’t really let me cuddle him)
- talking would be awesome but it’s not a must
- not so moody, or atleast shows warning if it wants to bite (my cockatiel is so moody and I love him so much but it’s a little upsetting cause it’s hard to spend a lot of time with him physically)
- also what one is the most quiet out of the three? Noise isn’t too much of an issue though
p̶e̶a̶c̶h̶t̶e̶a̶ Honestly, I have found that animals are similar to people each seems to have its own individual personality. Though, I have had two Senegal parrots and both of them have been absolutely wonderful, I would have to say they are my favorite. I have also had two cockatoos who have been absolutely wonderful. Though, I’ve had other people tell me that they are extremely moody.
Hopefully this helps. If you would like to visit the farm text me your address and I will send you a couple of tickets. 314-241-3488. 😊🐾
p̶e̶a̶c̶h̶t̶e̶a̶ I know this isn’t one on you list, but green cheek conures are quiet and very cuddly.

I feel like this is pretty broad because you get different type of amazons like a double yellow headed amazon and a mealy amazon act very different
I love Amazon’s, but I don’t think they are better talkers than African grays. They are more comical than African grays.
That’s funny, our African Gray is the comedian. They are definitely unique.
what is the address to your parrot place also is it a adoption area too
We are in Linn, MO. We don’t adopt birds out.
