It’s worth noting that, in the months since this video came out, some more information has been made available about the sequence of events that led to Tennant’s return. While the conclusion I came to at the time isn’t fully accurate, the broad strokes of “it was never a case of Tennant sidelining Ncuti” remain true. What’s less true is that RTD was forced to bring Tennant back to fill this slot, we now know it was just something he wanted to do anyway.
I REALLY don't think the vast, vast majority of Doctor Who fans who have watched and continue to watch the show are upset at Tennant's return. Not even remotely.
Well, I think he pretty much explained perfectly why a majority of fans, while being really really happy to see Tennant, ARE upset though. BUT!! Hopefully they will manage to make it work. If they just randomly kill him off when "the real" 14 comes, I will be pretty upset though. I hope there's more to all this than that. 😁
@@stevegleeson5445 feel like I need to stick up for Capaldi. I skipped his first season. He asked “Am I a Good Man?” 🙄 If u don’t know after TWELVE Lifetimes!!.. So I took a break. Once that storyline ended he hit his stride. I went back to watch his first series. Still bad. But Im telling you Capaldi had a good two series as the Doctor.
@@DrVenture42 Mate I LOVE Capaldi, one of my fave docs... I have literally watched hell bent and heaven sent like 10 times or more such powerful episodes
I could honestly watch David as The Doctor for at least the next 10 years. I couldn't get enough of him when he was originally The Doctor as he is my Doctor. And because RTD is back as the showrunner, I am confident that the show will get back on track and be more like it used to be when he brought it back originally.
He'll either bring it closer to the old day, or do what he actually did in the old days which was majorly evolve it to fit the times. I wonder if it's more likely that he'll do the latter, rather than return to 2006, or if 2006 is his standard that he's trying to recapture
I too would not be bother for 10 series of David Tennant as the 14th doctor, at all, it's indeed the best doctor. I agree that it looks like the show is getting back like it used to be but modernized or course, I hope so.
Let’s not forget that having a doctor leave the show after 1-3 seasons, regenerate inside the tardis, and spending their first episode fixing the damaged tardis and figuring out who they were got pretty tired and predictable. I give rtd respect for actually surprising me. At least some of the specials will attempt to explain why it happened.
@@Joe_Brennan_ I agree , a lot off new fans don’t remember just how unloved the program was by the general public back in 1989 , so a lot off the modern criticisms is nothing new. I’ve seen videos saying that it’s too late and that we are past the point of saving the show. But as you say Russell reinvented the show once before and he will do again. I think the return of Tennent will be a nice last hurrah before moving on to the new ears. The power of the doctors the first time had watched a program in about three years I never made a conscious decision to start watching it I just wasn’t that keen to watch and I kept putting it off.I’ve always felt if I’m watching it I don’t enjoy it anymore it’s not necessarily that it’s bad it’s just it’s not being made for a 40 odd year-old guy anymore.
No i disagree why go backwards I've been watching the show since Tom Baker and it's always been a new production team new Doctor new things it's a show about change. David Tennant was a great Doctor for his time but that time has long since past its not 2005 anymore i'm looking forward to see what Ncuti Gatwa has in store.
It's not complicated. A lot of people stopped watching during Jodie's run, and bringing back a fan-favorite Doctor is a way to reel people back in. Whether those people will stick around once Tennent himself leaves again is the real question.
@@beerbear81 I gave her the first season I think, or most of it anyways and whenever the bondesque episodes were, those were tolerable fun but i stopped after those. trying to decide now if one should watch any of the stuff before the new specials release or not.
@@Dzugashvili to me it had nothing to do with her, it was the writing. I've seen her in other things and she's a really good actor. I wish we'd had a season of her without Chibnel so that we could see what she was capable of in the role.
I’m definitely tempted to get back to the show now. I stopped watching after Matt Smith. It was just too sad to see him gone. I liked David Tennant too, so this got me excited
well, it definitely worked on me. after one season of Jodie, i gave up. the scrip was just terrible, and while i kinda liked Jodie as a doctor it was definitely not to a point where she could salvage a bad scrip and carry an episode. but now i will definitely check out new episodes with David Tennant.
I don't think Tenant coming back is disrespectful at all to Ncuti. If anything, this is phenomenally helpful. Tenant could possibly revitalize the fanbase that might have felt disenfranchised and give the biggest viewer base possible for Ncuti to step into.
David gonna revitalize it for sure... the question is, does Ncuti have what it takes to be THE DOCTOR? As neither Jodi nor Chibnall were a match for the role and story...
well based on one whole line from ncuti saying "what the hell is going on here" tells me hes going to be better than jodi/chibnall era as a whole tbh@@Uzishan
When I saw David Tennant back on the screen I literally jumped to my feet and cried and screamed with pure joy David has always been my favorite Dr and even if it's just for now I'm still happy to see him back as the Dr and I know he's happy to be back in the roll too
I was already angry at the show for Jodie's incarnation (my problem being her era's bad writing, such bad writing that she isn't canon and honestly I can say the same about all her successors now), but Tennant 2 is a lazy marketing scheme and Gatwa has just been ruined. I also see this as Jodie and female Doctors in general looking worse thanks to this.
I know I'm late to the comments, but when David left, I stopped watching it. I cried for weeks and I'm not ashamed to admit it. But when Jodie took over I started watching it again. She to me is the female version of David's doctor. I'm absolutely over the moon David is back, not bothered by how long for. Just so so happy he's back
It's been past a week now, and every time I remember David Tennant is the Doctor again, I get this rush of happiness. I can't express how much I love his Doctor. I'm SO HAPPY HE'S BACK
@@jenna6821 i never gasp at ANYTHING but when i saw his new outfit forming in i audibly gasped in excitement, because i couldn't believe what i was seeing. like the whole reason i watched Power of the Doctor was to hopefully see him, and it was so worth it
I think its perfect that David Tennant is coming back with Catherine Tait - I think that's why it will work. There was a story waiting to be told of the only one who had the Dr wiped from her memory. I see it as a delightful resolution and a completion of their story.
I started with Classic who when it was current. Tennant is absolutely the doctor in my opinion. And the answer came from the 50th. "Some day, you'll revisit some of the old faces, but only the favorites eh?" It would even explain how River knew his face but she said she had never seen him so young. A 60th anniversary like none other!
Tom Baker, being my favorite DW until David, made such an impact with that statement...and that commanding voice of his!! "You know, I really think you might!"
When I heard he came back, I LITERALLY binged 3 seasons only to see him again. And when he finally came back, NO JOKE. I cried of happiness. He is my doctor. And if this beautiful fantasy of mine became real, and THIS doctor broke my living room with his tardis, and offered me his hand, I would leave in a flowering heartbeat.
@@huntsman528 It's defenitely not the same, thats for sure. It feels like they are Rønning out of ideas. But I have hopes for my doctor. And she didn't do too bad in my opinion😊
@@SupportGay Matt was okay, I didnt like him at first but he definitely grew on me. However he couldn't extract the range of emotions from me that tennant could, tennant brought me to tears on several occasions but smith just felt more like light entertainment. Granted a lot of that is down to the writing but if you're going to compare two doctors you have to compare what they were not what they could have been if all things were equal, just objectively Matt was not a better doctor by any measurable metric
BWAHAHAHAHHA you know he's only temporary right? They offered the job to an UNKNOWN who was doing a movie and NOT AVAILABLE... Tennant is back for 1 SEASON MAX.
David Tennant is the reason I’m excited to start watching Doctor Who again. And hopefully these few specials we’re getting are well written enough to keep me watching.
The BBC needed Tennant to come back: a LOT of fans have checked out because the Capaldi years were very hit or miss, while the Whitaker years were awful. But everyone recognizes how great the Tennant years were. Getting the fans to come back will show that they once again have a decent writer/showrunner in charge, and will literally bridge between the stuff most people didn't like to Tennant (who everyone loves), to maybe giving the new Doctor a chance.
The Tennant years were great, and I thought only one story during that time really failed. However, I can't figure out why so many people hate on the ensuing Doctors. Things change and evolve, and there's nothing wrong with that. Every time there's a new Doctor we have to get used to that person; long-term Whovians should be accustomed to that by now. That's the nature of this incredibly long-running story. And I loved Jodie Whittaker.
Bingo. THIS is the kind of history Doctor Who needed to recapture it's buzz, the return of a previous Doctor, specifically David Tennant's. No one gave a shit about "the first female Doctor!", just like no one cared about "the first minority Doctor!". Believe it or not, people watch shows because they're telling good stories, not pushing weird social narratives that have been wholesale rejected by the majority of people (see the epic failures of recent - Star Wars, Amazon's Lord of the Rings, the entire MCU since the all-female Endgame scene and many other shows or movies that don't even deserve to have their names remembered) David Tennant's return is basically retconning out Capaldi and the female doctor, as if they never happened, while returning to the literal perfect incarnation of Doctor Who in David Tennant, as well as the last time the show really felt *GREAT*. Instead of jumping from the terrible last Doctor to the new actor, this new guy actually has a chance to earn fan's endearment, while sharing the screen with Tennant - unquestionably the most popular *and* most successful incarnation of Doctor Who. No one who isn't already watching was going to give the new Doctor a chance just because it was another self-proclaimed "historic" first. But with Tennant back? The buzz has returned, IMMEDIATELY, like the last decade hadn't even happened. There's literally a 10ish minute piece on the show/Tennant on BBC right now, getting as much coverage as anything besides the Gaza War. This is the best possible thing to happen to the show and Doctor Who, the character, other than maybe David Tennant returning full time and just completely dropping the whole "the Doctor regenerates all of the time and becomes a new actor" schtick, completely.
Completely forgot Matt Smith's Doctor, mostly because he's so terrible in House of Dragons lol. For all I care, they could retcon his entire run out of the series too. Matt Smith was pretty good, but he wasn't David Tennant and his face is honestly just too weird to not constantly make you break the third wall by noticing that he looks like a mannequin come to life. Tennant is prime Doctor.
One thing l loved about David's Doctor is that, they weren't afraid to also show his dark side. He got quite scary at times when the antagonist of the episode really pissed him off.
I will say as an oldish fan who stopped watching when chibnalls writing bored me, this whole Bridge Doctor with David Tennant truly is drawing me back in, I’m definitely going to watch the 60th special and even onwards to the new Doctor. Something about it all feels fresh to me, like a reset or a palette cleanse, for the first time in years I’m excited about Doctor Who again
your mostly in the minoirty tho, people dont want a new doctor, the drop off since tennant left makes that obvious lol the highest they had was jodies first couple episodes then it went back down instantly to normal levels, no one is interested in what they had, i dont think people will be with the new doctor either and viewership numbers after the specials are over will prove that.
@@siggybuttbrain7026 It went down to way below normal levels after Jodie’s first few episodes. It hit lows only experienced by the 7th Doctor’s run - which was when the show initially got canceled.
When Matt Smith originally took over for David Tenant I was like "who is this guy" then Matt became my favorite doctor. Infinitely curious and infinitely wise. But I have great memories of watching Tenant and I think it is a good way to draw people back in who honestly stopped caring after Matt Smith's run
@@zephyrias honestly capaldi grew on me a lot after my second watch threw of his run. I still can’t into Jodie’s, she’s not even a bad actor they just gave her such shit scripts compared to Chris,David, Matt and Peter.
Honestly, I have to be honest, I genuinely think that it's great that we've got David Tennant back even if it is just for a short period of time, or Bridge doctor as you put it. David Tennant is an amazing actor and is perfect for the role as Doctor Who and I am really glad that he is actually back to save the day once again. But this is just my personal opinion. ❤️
Myself and every other fan of the show I know are absolutely not over the Tennant and Matt Smith eras, and were overjoyed when we heard that Ten was back. You could say it is indeed desperate, because the previous team f*cked up so badly that the show needed a miracle to recover, which is what Ten is. I think of it almost as a universe reset, that hopefully will take us back to the feeling the show had in those days.
I think Tennant's return will be one big apology for "I don't want to go", and RTD will be trying to get returning fans to stay for the Gatwa era of Doctor Who by having Tennant give a more optimistic and hopeful exit
It had better be, seems like a wasted opportunity if not. Although very funny for RTD to have one Tennant sabotage the showrunner successor, and the other gracefully transition into the next RTD Doctor
When the Doctor re-generated back into Tennent, I, (for one), was very excited about the new stories. Like Tom Baker, he brought fun to the role as well as a serious side.
In watching Doctor Who, repeatedly, I felt that Tennant's series' were usually sad episodes, where Smith's were not. So, with Tennant returning with my beloved Dr. Donna, is an relief and joy! 😍 I would also love for Smith to come back, he is fabulous also! Doctors coming back and working together always gave me excitement! 🤩
A lot of people forget that in "The Day Of The Doctor" the 4th doctor returned and told Matt's Doctor that he'll see a few old faces, at least some of the favorites. So maybe he's going based on that to bring back David.
EXACTLY! That comment by Baker's Doctor foreshadowed a possible return for Tennant (in my mind anyway), who is the best Doctor of them all. John Barrowman should be cast as a Doctor, too -can you imagine an episode with him as both Doctor and Harkness flirting with him (as usual)? My first line would be "Doctor, you just keep getting better looking each time I see you"
That line also predicted her season, too, the one after Capaldi. In it, it was confirmed they are not a Time Lord, they are a Timeless Child, aka literally just God of Gallifrey. They created the Time Lords, and the Time Lords have only 12 regenerations, while they do not. They also do not have to change appearance, they choose to. Which is why we have Tennant back. Not only because of an easy business venture, but also because it is factual to the lore of The Doctor. I do hope they do more with the Master's facts, though. He is two, not one. He is natural, a born Time Lord who can only regenerate 12 times. He is also unnatural, and undead soul capable of possession bodies of others to continue living past his 12 regenerations. If they're running with the recent lore of The Doctor, they absolutely should return the original old lore of the Master again.
I'm confused why people don't like David's last line because I'm so in love with how perfectly bittersweet that was, it also outlines how human that doctor was which I thoroughly enjoyed seeing explored
I think a lot of fans felt sad at that moment and I agree with you it was perfectly bittersweet but added to this watching the extra footage ( not sure if it was on the DVD) where David was taking some videos as well showed how sad he suddenly felt leaving Doctor Who, I think this combined with those words made people feel that he should not have left.
It was interpreted by a lot of fans that this was Tennant being kicked from the role against his will. He's been one of the more enthusiastic actors for the role who had previously stated that he wanted to stay in the role as long as possible.
I haven't watched since Capaldi. I haven't seriously watched since Smith. Where I enjoyed both of these two enormously, DT told us he didn't want to go and I literally cried when he regenerated. Having him back to finish his story and give the series the rebirth that it needed will be an absolute joy to me.
Exactly how it played out for me. I didn't see a single Whittaker episode. No interest in that Dr. And I had given up on the series altogether when I saw Who was announced next. This is a refreshing surprise that they actually didn't want the Series to go into hiatus and did the only thing they could.
Yeah.. I tuned out at Capaldi as well. I came back in his 2nd season but Chibnall and Whittaker drove me away! Gotta be honest. If they went straight from Whittaker to Gatwa.. I would be done. Just move on to another fandom. Tennant brought me back. I’m sure I’m not alone.
David Tennant is amazing, and I've been a fan for years. I'm truly excited about his return as I believe this will fix what happened with the most recent issues of Dr. Who which turned a lot of people away
I think it's a great idea. It reboots the show so Ncuti doesn't have to do ALL the heavy lifting for himself, I think Ncuti deserves a really good introduction and Tennant can certainly lay the groundwork. And hopefully get ratings up a bit.
I haven’t seen Sex Education and have never heard Ncuti speak before his first line in Doctor Who…. And as soon as he barked, “What the HELL is going on here?!?!” I was sold. That’s all I needed to know. He’s going to be a great Doctor.
Having David Back is a great way to close any loops and continue the series. Hope to see Donna, the Doctors daughther, River Song and of course the Daleks!!!
As far as I'm concerned, it was an absolute joy to see the great David Tennant reappear as Dr Who. He was the best of them all in my opinion and it's wonderful to see him back, even if only for a short time!
Your bang on there David Tennant is definitely the best doctor he's also my Doctor Matt Smith was good aswell tho I've watched all the old ones from black and white to colour and David Tennant is the best one I was shocked to see him come back I was waiting for the black guy to show don't no his name. Its just ashame he's only back for 3 episodes and not a series
@@MrKbassett17 Well they could of brought someone in who looked enough and sounded a lot like Tom Baker. I'm sure David will break Baker's record as the Doctor this time around.
Makes no sense anyone would be upset that David shows up again for a bit. He was a brilliant Doctor. To have him pave the way before the newer Doctor is phenomenal, especially with how this happening increases the lore. It’s a landmark in DW history. I say let’s just hope they explain WHY it happens in the show well. If the writing is good then it doesn’t matter.
Also, the lore always says it's random when they regenerate, so it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility for the doctor to go back to a previous incarnation.
You're right, it doesn't make any sense that people would be upset David is returning. Seems like something the creator of this video is trying to stir up. David Tennant - Best Doctor ever!
BS! If Tennant was the topping on a phenomenal season, I would be thrilled but, Tennant topping off a huge pile of shit, I am not excited, I am upset. I am upset with the year and a half of garbage that was supposed to be Dr. Who and tossing me Tennant doesn't make-up for what they have done. I will force myself to watch the first one, it better be the best Who I've ever friggin' seen, to make-up for what they did to me, if not, I'm out. If all three are acceptable, I will try the first episode of the new Who but, again, it better knock my socks off. In the last two seasons, is there a single episode that really sticks in your mind as good? I can recall great episodes of all the Doctors in the modern era but I can hardly remember any episode in the last two seasons and I watched them twice. Shows that they are so boring and shitty, you don't even remember them. Capaldi did a fantastic job, if only he had some kind of a script to work with, the show would have been great. Jody also had a crap script but, she didn't even try to do anything with it, she just read the lines and played along - terrible, terrible, terrible.
He was the best doctor. Sure he changed how he looked each generation but he still, for the most part, had the same quirky personality and I just don't think it's something Jodie or any female actor can accurately portray. Christopher eccleston is the obvious exception but Tennant, Smith and capaldi absolutely nailed it.
RTD never forgot who the first and lifelong fans are: young people. The Chibnall seasons were so convoluted and abstract that it no longer appealed to the family watching together. Bringing back DT is brilliant because mummy is going to be all “ooooo…David’s back!” Dad will be “RTD is a damn fine writer “ and the kids will get to experience a childlike doctor who is part brilliant actor, part doctor who fanboy, and part cartoon character. I think it’s brilliant!!!
Are you sure its not because the show cant stop beating the audience over the head with its increadibly simple, black and white message about morality every episode?
@@madnessguy1300 nah its fan bait to lure fans back into watching doctor who again. It only took the bbc and its show runners having greatly devalued the brand to get to this point. Logically most of the old fans will come watch David Tennant for the 3 episodes he’s in than dip out. Think about it even nostalgia baiting won’t save doctor who at this point anymore. Apathy has already set in for this franchise.
It’s all obvious that because they are doing Gay Doctor Who next to appeal to absolutely no one like Female Doctor Who…Tenant is here to draw eyeballs again. Just stop with all the agenda BS. Didn’t watch the female. Won’t watch the gay.
You couldn't be more wrong, David Tenant is/was THE best Doctor ever, the last Doctor lost many fans who found it way off the rails. I am thrilled to see David again, I'll be back to watch this time.
As a David Tennant fan that got me into Dr whoever randomly on tv one day back in 2005. I lost most of my interest in the show after he left. The flair was gone for me. Now I only see the show on youtube when he does his cameo appearances. Personally I like that they give the prior doctors an episode or two. It expands on the show's interest draw and character building. A move proven popular in star wars for reference.
David Tennant and Matt Smith are my favourite Doctors. I honestly lost touch with Doctor Who after Eleven, but I’m definitely one of those fans that will watch again just to see David Tennant reprise the role. I just hope that there’s a cameo in there for Matt Smith somewhere too.
Bringing back David Tennet is a brilliant move in my opinion. He was a fan favorite who really brought the show to life after Eccleston's performance of a man who was healing. Tennet made the doctor so much more fun again, and gave a thrill of adventure that so many wanted to see, and I'm sure doing so again is an intentional move. A lot of people lost interest in doctor who over the years because of poor writing on the part of Chibnal, who decided to ruin what was some 58-59 years worth of continuity in one story line that came out of left field. Bringing back RTD and David Tennet, even just for a short time on Tennet's part, will help bring back an audience that had been left disappointed by poor story telling, and give the show the life and hype it needs for Ncuti's introduction as the doctor, and allow him the audience he deserves
@@gregorysagegreene agreed, but I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt, seeing as she's an actress who was placed in a shitty role by a shitty producer. Right? we did have a certain previous Doctor at the end of one of the special talk about "revisiting old faces" so it is not so preposterous after all...
I do hope Ncuti shows up in a scene or two in the specials or maybe the 60th as a future version of the Doctor and helps Tennant's Doctor let go, like if the specials are his incarnation subbornly grabbing hold or something, to bring the whole "I don't want to go" line full circle.
I’d rather have David Tennant back as the 14th doctor then bringing in somebody new and let him run for a couple more years he was probably the best doctor they’ve ever had anyway they want to raise the ratings that be a good way to do it bring the most popular doctor bag we don’t even know if this new guy is gonna be any good playing the doctor just cause they’re good and other things doesn’t mean they’ll be good in the role as the doctor
David Tennant is a wonderful actor. He embodies the roles he plays, and has a great range of emotive gems to show us when he plays his part. The Doctor is immortal and appears in different guises. Each episode is in itself a role and a story.
It makes even more sense when you remember they’ve done this before: in 2009, when Tennant’s contract expired, Matt Smith was cast as the Eleventh Doctor, but was unavailable for filming for another year. So the BBC extended Tennant’s contract by a year and filmed a bunch of specials before regenerating him.
Story-wise, remember that Ten's last words were "I don't want to go" and out of all the Doctors he seems to have the most regret, so maybe the reason he's (temporarily) back is because of unfinished business, particularly with Donna Noble.
I went to see a Dr. Who show with my son, years ago but after Tennant left the role. During the show a holographic type image was shown showing all the Dr’s. A massive cheer erupted when Tennants Dr came up, I think that’s why he’s back.
@@Finsirith nah, the viewers of the "new" doctor who time and the old time are not that overlapping. i would say most modern doctor who fans never saw tom baker
@@CoL_Drake Probably true. But for those viewers who were excited to hear the announcement that the series was being rebooted, becuase we had met and loved it as children--most likely Tom Baker is THE Doctor. "Not A doctor, THE Doctor--the definite article, you might say." (One of my favorite little jokes in the entire series...)
@@Finsirith Yeah, doubtful that applies to anyone 40 or under. I was born in the 80s and didn't really attain consciousness until the 90s, in which my first exposure to the Doctor was Paul McGann in that movie that I kinda liked at the time, but my dad certainly didn't -- because he'd seen Tom Baker, etc. The first Doctor I _cared_ about was Christopher Eccleston, who was foolish to give up the mantle so soon, I think, because I really liked his crankier, twitchier Doctor, and he could've really solidified his place in Whoverse Hsitory instead of being "that guy before David Tennant" for so many people. But his mistake gave way for David Tennant, who took no time at all to earn his place as _my_ Doctor, as well as the Doctor of pretty much everyone in my age bracket who was watching the show. With all the respect in the world for Tom Baker (and Sylvester McCoy, who I think is underrated), and the people who grew up with him as _the_ Doctor for them, there is no doubt that, for anyone who wasn't sentient in the 80s, David Tennant is and is deservedly _the_ Doctor.
Even though Tennant is my Doctor, Smith will always be my fav story of the Doctor and his companions. I LOVED the whole Family aspect with Amy, Rory and River! Tennant pulled me in and made me a fan. He made me want to go back to learn the lore and dig up any info on the Doctor I could. I tried to love the next two Doctors, but the show changed too much too quick and it stopped feeling like the show I fell in love with. I eventually stopped getting excited for the next season and then lost touch completely. I am definitely one of the fans that will come back for Tennant and hopefully rekindle my love for the show I fell in love with so long ago.
While I saw a few episodes of Tennant, I vaguely remember one ep with a bunch of robo dogs and Donna. Smith was my 1st doctor that I enjoyed all the stories! I even went back to watch the Doctor who had the leather jacket. My fave 1 season doctor. Then watched some tennant seasons.
David Tennant and Billie Piper together were not just the best Doctor and Sidekick but some of the top ten things I've ever seen on TV in 65 years of watching tv.
I think that the key was Tennant himself. I loved his chemistry with Rose, but found his relationship with Frema Nametohardtospell's character just as enjoyable. Tennant is an actor who seems never to put a foot wrong.
I think it's great that David Tennant is coming back! While it is seeing an old Doctor again, it's also a new idea to regenerate into a former version, so will be interesting to see what they do. And for me, his era (started by Chris Eccleston) was the one that was most easy to watch. He brought more emotion, established great relationships and story twists with other characters and events in time. Some of which they have still come back to in the years since. So to see it come full circle and see how it will shape the next incarnation is brilliant. Two other characters I'd love to see come back is Billie Piper and also Chris Eccleston's doctor.
Absolutely spot on. Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper as Rose were the best incarnation of Doctor Who since the days of the third Doctor, Jon Pertwee all those years ago. I was sad when he left after one explosive series.
@@Apollo949 yes me too, i wanted him to do more as I thought he was a brilliant Doctor. Like you say, he had abit of that traditional Doctor character about him but done in a modern way. Really cleverly played.
@@ianabel1515 Yeah, and don't forget that Russell T Davis was the script writer, so hopefully he will revive the show now that he's been brought back for the new series.
I became a fan with the ninth doctor but Tennent is the best Doctor incarnation EVER and judging by the joy on the faces of many fans to his return, it’s impossible to go wrong with bringing him back.
I hope this is an indication that David is NEVER DONE , when talking about The Doctor. He NEVER fails on screen , so I just hope he keeps returning as long as he can.
I came on board with Christopher Eccleston and had a hard transitioning to David Tennant. I quickly fell in love with the tenth doctor and I stopped watching when he left. I am so excited to see him again. And, I think the 14th doctor will be someone I want to watch when the time is right.
Bringing David back is the smartest move… so many fans stopped watching during chibnals era. Now that it’s changed… we can all come back and restart. It’s like a chill reboot
Every change of the showrunner guard is a reboot of sorts, some people stop watching, some people start/start again. This one seems like it’ll mostly be the latter.
This feels a lot like when Eleven called Twelve and Capaldi more or less said "I've been waiting for this for so long, please give me a chance" and Matt Smith was more or less saying "Yes that's the Doctor even if you aren't happy". But it could be, like you said, RTD tying up loose threads and wanting to actually have Ten able to be "ready" to go.
@@Joe_Brennan_ They will, that's the exact reason why he's back. All the adventures are more of a pretext, a reason, an excuse to elaborate the "I don't wanna go" and give him his proper farewell. If they just had wanted to continue with the adventures, they would have gone on with the next doctor.
My little head cannon is the Fact, Tennant is the whole Doctor who didn't accept his "death" and wished " to stay longer"....since it seems each Doctor lat "Speech" have effect on the Next one and the timeline.
I am thrilled and delighted by David Ten net's return, and only wish it were permanent for the greatest Doctor ever! I can't wait until the episodes begin airing! This is such wonderful news for all of us who still consider the 10th Doctor, the REAL Doctor!
I think helping to restore Donna’s memory, even if it takes the Time-Lord part out of her, may be what helps Tennant’s Doctor accept he’s ready to move on. Last time we lost him, all his friends moved on and he was left on his own, unable to keep his current companion, and probably scared to regenerate as it “feels like dying”. I can’t see it happening but it would be interesting if Donna stayed for Ncuti’s first season, who knows!
I’m excited for David to be back for a little while! I honestly don’t know why they haven’t done a spin off series with him and Rose in that other universe.
I have watched Dr. Who from the beginning. David Tennant was, is and always will be my favorite. The scene where he said he didn't want to go gave me hope that he would be back. Whether the writers, directors or producers planned it that way or not, it was genius. The 14th Doctor proves that. I think it was the best move they ever made. Whether it's to wait for the person they want or not. He's back and I am pleased. Not fond of the hairdo, but its' still him.
I might be more excited to see Donna's story get revisited than I am to see David Tennant as the doctor again. I always felt like her time as a companion ended in a way that was uniquely cruel. I hope her character gets more closure this time.
To me it feels like it's hitting multiple points: finishing up some loose threads for Tennant, celebrating the show's history, a little bit of fan service to let the fans know the show is in good hands and finally to prepare it for the next phase and an exciting new Doctor. The key for me is the fact that Tennant is back for a very limited time, not a full series. It feels like RTD and the team know what they are doing. It seems like Gatwa will be a part of the specials AS WELL, based on the teaser. Plus the stuff you said in the video. All of this leaves me excited for the 60th and beyond. I truly can't wait for the 15th Doctor to arrive after a brief period of celebration.
I’m very happy That David Tennant is coming back . I thought he was great. You can give David Tennant, The role for for as long as possible ,as far as I’m concerned ! 💜🦋
I hope narrativly, they treat 10 version 3.0 as a sort of learning experience for the Doctor, something they need to learn in that form that they missed first time around. And potentially I see the possibility that because 13 has gone through.... alot of trauma, the doctor needed to regenerate to a form that allows them to process it all properly, and the mind decided that 10 was the thing needed. Also remember what the Curator said in the 50th anniversary. Edit: I also really enjoy the idea that because 10 was so upset that he only got 3 years (its 3 years in universe right?) That he forced himself in again accidentally from the doctors subconscious, and that his arc will be realizing he needs to let go.
OMG yes. A like wasn't enough to show my agreement with what you said. I want to see 10 needing to let go and in the process also dealing with 13's trauma.
I'm just glad David is back. Matt Smith carried the torch brilliantly, after l got over that David was not coming back, but David was exceptional as the Doctors. He was so emotional, ruthless and kind hearted. The "I could so much more" was a killer and his lifespan in comparison to the other iterations was soo short. It will be interesting, cause he can't be exactly like who he was, because he's had multiple lifetime experiences since and so he is 10 but not. Ultimately, I just hope 10/14 and Donna have a happy ending and there's some closure.
The Chibnall years paid a heavy price on the fan base. I won't blame Jodie (I really like the actress), the blame falls on Chibs. With Nchuti not being available, I believe having a such a huge fan favorite like David step in and revitalize the show is a wonderful idea. And maybe, just maybe, we get to see a cameo with Tom Baker (my favorite Doctor) again.
I was bummed when David Tennant left and Matt Smith became the Doctor, but to my delight Matt made an amazing Doctor. Both Tennant and Smith will always be my favorite Doctors, so I was psyched to see David back in whatever capacity!
Tennant's Doctor regenerated saying he didn't want to go. A character arc for his in-between Doctor could be accepting that his time has come, and regenerating without regrets. Instead of "I don't want to go" it would be "I'm ready." I think that would be a really compelling story and set things up nicely for Ncuti's Doctor.
I actually think using nostalgia to bring in old fans or even new fans is important especially to a show like Doctor Who. Bringing back old foes, characters, storylines, etc we haven’t seen in a long awhile is really quite cool once in awhile. While it’s also important to have new things too and originality obviously. Having a mix of old and new has always been Doctor Who’s brand and should continue to be.
Showrunners and the like nowadays use nostalgia to bring actual fans of their shows back, but then they, for some reason (I said sarcastically), just fuck it up completely. I can't think of many rebooted, remade or sequel to a show or movie that didn't give big middle finger to the original show/movie and its fans. Blade Runner 2049 is a good example of building on a previous story without shitting on said previous story. People are far too forgiving to writers and showrunners for absolutely ruining some iconic or otherwise great franchises. Same with this - Tennant will forever be my favorite Doctor, but even he won't bring me back to the show after what has already transpired. The damage has already been done and I've very little hope of this bridge ever being crossable again.
@@tonzik884 2049's storyline is a result of the originals story, but, really, only somewhat of a continuation. It's a side story that doubles as an epilogue for the original.
Chibnell turned off me so hard, that I wouldn't even return to the next Doctor. But with Tennant they are saying like look we are going back to the golden age. Please, forgive us and give it a try. Tho it's really weird
@@tonzik884 i so agree with this! I actually know nothing about this beef that OP was talking about, but to me, doctor who is such a welldone show that i dont know HOW anyone would thing its a "reboot" like hollywood reboots, it is clear they care about their fans and are gonna do tennant in a good way, not a cheap nostalgic way
I remember hearing that there were questions about Gatwa's availability, so it made perfect sense to me. And I think it is something new, insofar as they've never had a Doctor regenerate into a previous incarnation before. It raises all sorts of questions that I hope they address. The fact that it's an experienced showrunner doing this is reassuring; it would be different with a new showrunner.
You make a very good point about it being a returning showrunner, because we can see this move as something he’s doing in his fifth series, rather than first
I am one of those fans who didn't watch the 13th doctor's seasons because I didn't like the writing of it and many other reasons why. But knowing that Russell T Davies is taking charge again made me immediately hopeful for the future seasons, if it was anybody else who brought back David Tennant's return then I would be concerned, but since its RTD I'm not that concerned over it, I have trust in him
David returning was what made me decide to rewatch the show and actually watch the last few seasons which I hadn’t done before so I definitely think he’s going to attract new viewers
same. I stopped halfway through Capaldi, and while I am dreading the one after since I have heard nothing good from it, I feel now like I must watch just to get to David again. Still my favorite Doctor. He could be fun, scary, sombre, silly, smart...just a myriad of aspects. Don't get me wrong, all Doctors offer something different and some of those to a degree, but he seemed the most well rounded to me, rather than over the top one thing or the other.
I watched some of the episodes with Capaldi but lost interest. Watched the first couple of episodes with Jody but again it wasn't enough to keep me entertained. David was my favorite, (but I liked Matt Smith too) and will always watch every episode for as long as he is the Doctor! Amazon Prime made a series, "Bad Omens," with David Tennent playing the role of the devil and he was phenomenal in that as well! 😊
legit I had two season to catch up to, cause I found Jodi's writting so bad but I heard david was back with RTD and was like damm OG doctor who lets goo bring back the nostalgia and caught up in 2 days
@@LucioWolfox Were you able to enjoy any of Jodie Whittaker's Era while catching up? I'm just curious as ill be catching up as well. iv seen bits and pieces but i sorta fell on and off during Capaldi but i did in the end watch all of that eventually, but not so intently that i could recall all of it. and pretty much missed all of Whittakers.
@@LucioWolfox I'm interested to know what you thought of the rest of Jodie's era. I feel the writing did get better of the era, granted not so much that it became, good... but better than it started at...
This was a very smart move in MANY ways. The 60th anniversary is having a previous Doctor the center of the story instead of Gatwa trying to get his footing in the roll with all the 60th framework going on. This gives Fans that left after Capaldi a chance for some nostalgia and might give Gatwa a better chance of keeping those fans instead of coming right after Whittaker who was much less popular then Capaldi and draw them back. I feel that Tenant was the best choice over any other including my personal favorite Smith. Although it might have been very intriguing idea to go all the way back to the first with with David Bradley in the role.
Exactly what I said. It's not a bad idea to do this also in the future. It's a Time lord thing right? I love seeing the older Doctors and their companions.
Bringing back Tenant with Donna Noble was the best possible choice because of all the fans losing interest, me included in the past few years. A lot of damage has been done to this show recently and Doctor who needed this to bring fans back.
I've always felt that Donna got shafted. She had so much left to explore and suddenly she was gone. She was basically abandoned with this incredible power inside her bran that would kill her if she knew about it. Of course the Dr would feel the need to fix this. Hopefully, Donna get's a conclusion to her story instead of a generic happily ever after ending. She was robbed of the memory of a grand friendship, and amazing adventures...I hope my favorite companion gets to retire from her heroic journeys with a more satisfying conclusion. I also wouldn't mind at all if we found out what happened in that untold story with Martha that was teased in the weeping angels intro episode "Blink" (Why did he have a bow and arrow?)
Forward momentum? The entire Chibnall era has been awful, no momentum, just a quagmire of poor writing. We need to be allowed to let this dreadful era fade from memory, and David is a great pallet cleanser, and allow fans to enjoy the show again in the knowledge that the new Doctor is here and in safe hands with RTD
Oh believe me, I’m no fan of the era really. But I think on paper there is a difference between a new Doctor with shoddy writing, and literally reverting back to an old one
I'm not a fan of chibs either, but I think you feel a lot harsher about him than necessary. That aside I do agree with the term 'pallet cleanser' for this bridge doctor. Ratings have dropped, people who were fans have deserted, the screenwriting hasn't been as magical, and this will be an amazing jumping on point for many more people to enjoy some good ol' doccy who
@@Joe_Brennan_ I think you nailed it, the reasons that is, but it has another function, going from a hated era, and I mean really despised, to a new doctor but my taking the fanbase back to a happier time, with Tenant, thereby giving the new bloke a much better start and bringing back viewers. Strategically, it's pretty clever. Personally, I'm just glad to see the back of Whittaker
@@alexbanks9510 I've never been angry before, it's just a TV series, but Chibnall has managed to take me from excited for the first female Doctor, continuing the age-old Doctor Who foundation of change and relevance, and totally ballsing it up. Jodi Whittaker deserved better. Can you imagine what it could have been like under Moffat? And that's not even taking into account his sickening disrespect for everything that's come before. Chibbers has earned every tiny scrap of scorn and vilification.
@@aliservan7188 We can hope that Jodie will show up for the 60th, if even for a cameo, and we'll finally get to find out who her Doctor was, since Chibnall never actual wrote her character at all.
The show lost a lot of people with each doctor along since Tennant, particularly along after Smith. Plenty of people only started during newer doctors, but this definitely feels like a good shot at bringing everyone back for the new era by starting with the one many felt were their favourite
100% agreed! The main problem was the showrunner. RTD Did an amazing job as showrunner, and eventhough some of the best RTD episodes were Moffats, Moffat as a showrunner was total shite. I have stuck around but Doctor Who has been going down hill since Tennant. Which sucks because Matt Smith was a really good Doctor, so was Peter Capaldi. But his run didn't get better until his last season. On the bright side Jodie's run was a breath of fresh air. Her run was actually really freaking good! But any fan who dropped off from Smiths era or Capaldi's era won't know it because they ain't watching anymore.
I enjoyed the Matt Smith as the doctor but the writing quality was gone, capaldis talents were completely wasted with his episodes and I found Jodie Whittaker was unlikable and incompetent, (not just as the doctor, she seemed to not to care about the source material at all) turns out I wasn't in the minority at all
Yeah. Really Doctor Who died with the true series (#7). That so-called DW movie they pulled then this crap since is just a joke. The guy behind it made the QAF series and is know as a child predator. So yeah. Makes ur stomach turn.
@@benjaminmuller9348 Sorry, have to disagree with you, she was fantastic, best Doctor? Hell no. Good doctor hell yes. The writing was way better with her run as well. Capaldi's Doctor is way better then Whittaker's but the writing was shite except for his last series. Smith's doctor wasn't as good as Capaldi's but as good as Whittaker's but all the writing was shite. I haven't enjoyed a Doctor Who run this much since Baker, Davison, Eccleston and Tennant. Not to say Whittaker's run was as good or on par with theirs but it was good. In the end that is my opinion. Your opinion differs. Thats ok.
Tennant is my Doctor! I teared up and accidentally drooled watching the regeneration scene (the vid was suggested to me). I loved his role so much I got a little double heart tattoo in red and blue for his 3D glasses and still love to explain it to people 🥲 Something about his era was just different from what the show became, whether it was the writing, production, actors, or a combination of all, that I didn’t have enough interest to stay after Smith. I can’t say for sure if I’ll stick around afterwards, but I’ll definitely be there for Tennant’s upcoming episodes!
I didn't know that Ncuti was not available due to scheduling conflict, I thought it was a choice for the 60th. That clears up a lot, thanks. Also, it's interesting that the last words of RTD-Tennent is "I don't want to go", and they returned, and the last words of Moffat-Capaldi is "Doctor, I let you go" and Capaldi said he didn't want to come back. Very interesting. Also interesting, the last words of Chibnall-Whittaker is "Tag, you're it", I just think that's funny.
David Tennant and RTD was such a ground breaking duo for doctor who. The script with Davids acting made every episode feel like it ment something and even characters we only got to see for one episode left us with emotional scars(silence in the library, blink and the Madame pompadour episode). The emotional development in his run was outstanding and led to scenes that couldn't work with anyone else. I honestly feel his exit was one of a kind and could live with him not coming back, doesn't mean I don't want him too, but I'm satisfied with his emotional final episode.
Absolutely agreed. Those three episodes (well, four-SITL was two episodes together), were probably the highest of heights that the series ever reached in my opinion, and they all happened with the same doctor. By the way, The Girl in the Fireplace was the Madame de Pompadour episode.
This all makes so much sense, and makes me feel much better about the return of Tennant. RTD and the rest of the team have handled the situation very well, making the most of a difficult set of circumstances to revitalise excitement about the show. Bring it on!
This is the best most amazing and wonderful thing that could’ve happened to Doctor Who that could’ve ever happened. Especially after the last few years. Tennant didn’t want to actually leave at the end anyways. So it’s fantastic to have him back in his proper place.
i'm so happy, that David Tennant is returning. He was my absolute favorite Doctor by far. I just wished, he would take over the role for another 3 or 4 seasons and not just 3 episodes. His way of playing the Doctor was just such a natural fit to how i see the Doctor. It's fantastic to see him working together with RTD again.
Fan since Eccleston (my favourite). This really needed to happen. I’ve loved the series for so long and Chibnall genuinely killed my enthusiasm for the show. I think with an excellent established writer and actor at the helm and ideas for the future, I can finally start looking forward to the show that has always meant so much to me and where it goes next
I had very high hopes for Chibnall. He did an excellent job with Broadchurch and is a long time fan of Doctor Who. But he let me down....so hard. Jodie is a fabulous actress and brought great energy to the role. But the writing and direction was off. Moffat is great at overarching themes. He always kept us on our toes, even as we yelled at him. It's so good to have Russell back.
@@kandilyn I totally agree actually, it dawns on me how little respect I gave Jodie- she was a brilliant pick. I also rate Chibnall but as you say, he let us down here haha
Don't overlook Moffatt's being the original destroyer of fans. Chibnall just continued that. The pair of them ran the show for their own personal amusement and didn't give a rat's arse about viewers.
@@pizzstev I love Eccleston. I could go on for days about how amazing and satisfying his portrayal and arc was. Russell is responsible for an unparalleled period of the show’s history. I don’t think we’ll ever see Eccleston back in the role but for now, those Big Finish audios he did have me beaming from ear to ear
I really like how 10 left, sometimes life is tragic & heartbreaking. I’ve had my fill of whimsical happy endings that subvert tragedy with Moffat. I really hope his last words are “I still don’t want to go”, not as sad as when he first left, but bittersweet & resigned to his fate.
@@Flappy09 It's not really an arc, that incarnation just died. It's okay for it to be sad for that version of the Doctor & the next to be fine, like with 10 & 11. But to each their own.
I don't really understand why the guy in the video hates it so much. We know the Doctor is the same person but they are each very different people too. David's ending was perfect. He hated that he had to kill himself but knew he had to, because he just couldn't let someone die while he could save them. It's bittersweet and hurts the fans and him just as much. He didn't want this part of him to be over just yet and showed the viewers that regenerating had downsides besides just losing the actor.
@@TheMichaelmyth The same reason that moment is so poignant & so beautiful. It hurts, it really hurts, but cause of that it's stayed such a clear memory for a generation of Doctor Who fans. I love 11 & 12 but I can't remember a word of their parting speeches.
@@SodPassionGaming Bro I remember just about everything from him yelling about how unfair it is that he needs to give up his life to save 1 person and Wilfred just telling him to leave him there to the moment he regenerates. I dropped off after Smith but Yeah the most I can remember about his finale is that he was super old, had a cyberman head with him and was on a plant called Christmas. There was something about a crack and him getting some life-up juice (which is now redundant due to the timeless child) and maybe 1 sentence of his speech. Oh and the "A question that shouldn't be answered, DOCTOR WHOOOOOOO?' bit.I remember liking it. I think the eleventh hour is the best opening to a doctor though.
Personally, I like that David Tennant is back even if only for a short while. And having him back to bridge the gap between Jody and the next true regeneration makes logical sense given it is the 60th Anniversary year of the show. Scheduling conflicts happen and at least they’re doing something that could give the 10th some proper resolution to David’s final line as the 10th in the meantime while they wait for Jody’s real successor in the role to finish the project he is currently involved with.
THIS. IS. BRILLIANT. I actually stopped watching doctor who close to the end of capaldi's run so I haven't even seen any of Jodi's run outside of like the first episode. Maybe I'll give the show another shot in order to catch myself up, but I'm actually really excited to see what we get with this decision! This has honestly made me interested in doctor who again after a couple years away from the show and I couldn't be more excited!!!
Me too! I stopped watching towards the end of Capaldi’s era. I just couldn’t get into Jodie as the Doctor, I stopped watching new episodes and just kept re-watching David Tennant’s and Matt Smith’s episodes as the Doctor. I still re-watch them! I think I’ve run through Christopher, David and Matt’s episodes maybe 6 times now? Minimum?
Same! I tried a few of Jodie's episodes but she just didn't click for me (I blame the writing, she seems fine as an actress). I'm actually kind of excited we have David back, but I'm nervous the show will throw him into the deep end and give us more awkward writing...
I pretty much did the same thing. I did spend some years trying to force myself to watch Jodie's run but I was so bored with the writing the vast majority of the time. I'm still kinda miffed at myself that I couldn't really enjoy it when I'd been wanting a women doctor almost from the start.
I recently watched Jodie's first season again, and it is definitely better the second time 'round. Matt Smith remains my favourite however, but Jodie wasn't as bad as at first might have appeared.
My opinion is that Tennant is there to show people the doctor who that everyone likes is coming back. Gatwa out of the gate would have just reminded people of Whittaker since it seems like a pick not made out of narrative potential. It was great to hear Tennant complement gatwas portrayal of the doctor as well
I grew up with Matt Smith as my doctor and I loved the show and had all the box sets for his run. Then I went back and watched David Tennants run and saw how amazing they were. I even didn't mind Capaldi, and stuck through it until the end, but I didn't even get 2 episodes into Jodie's run before giving up (which is a shame because she's an amazing actress) as I didn't like Chibnall's writing. But with this move, they've got my, and I'm sure many other fans' attention again. It's a good move to bring back the original fan base for what will hopefully be a great new era of Who
Matt Smith used to be my favourite when I started the show (my first episode was the impossible astronaut at 6 years old). But when I did go back I watched Tennant, he became my favourite. I really liked Capaldi's cybermen episodes, especially the final story with Bill. For me it was a fun darker tone to the show. I wonder if they'll try to turn away from the low stakes of Jodie's era or try to emulate Tennant's era again.
I started with Tom Baker and they lost me with Jodie. Wasn’t the gender - it was the show runner and writing. I will be back for Tennant and for the doctor that follows.
Agree totally!! I just read an article saying that all future (2023) episodes will be broadcast on Disney+. I hope the 60th will be shown in movie theaters. The Power of the Doctor was one of the best episodes--lovely to see the previous Docs.
I'm honestly so excited to have David back. I'm also very excited for Ncuti, but I've always said that Donna's fate was the worst of all the companions and there was still a need for a resolution to her situation and I'm MORE THAN EXCITED to see what's gonna happen there. Honestly Jodie's regeneration scene finally gave me the push I needed to catch up after I stopped watching after the weird spider episode in her first season. Chibnalls writing still isn't my favourite but the combination of David, Catherine and the prospect of Ncuti gave me the biggest mood boost since before the pandemic, lol, so I'm watching the shit out of Jodies seasons now!
At this point I've made peace with anything from past seasons that I found questionable, however Donna's ending has never sat well with me. Because the Doctor can go back and change things that they thought couldn't be touched (50th anniversary). I'm hoping they go the route of the Doctor has matured and knows things now that can change her fate.
Her best scene was the regeneration into David! Her 2nd best scene was regeneration into the Doctor, when the audience hoped she fell to her death and we would get a new doctor. :)
Absolutely love David Tennant - he can be the Bridge Doctor for as long as he wants as far as I'm concerned - he's a compelling Doctor and, as you say, lights up the screen:)
I don't know anyone who is upset that David is coming back, It's the only reason I'm coming back to the series, and my bestie as well. We both left the series when Capaldi took over. I think the show needs this. Tennent was a very strong doctor, my Doctor is Matt Smith and he will always be my doctor I started the show with him, but Tennent is also fantastic. I'm happy.
I honestly want to watch Tennant as the doctor all the time because he is one of my favorites who somehow always managed to catch my attention when I watched the series and I just wish they would keep him for a few more seasons because in my opinion he is the best doctor there is
I think bringing DT back to play 14 with the Celestial Toymaker is a fantastic move that will draw back sizeable audiences and use the 60th Anniversary as a platform for the launch of the15th Doctor era. The last time I was looking forward with this much enthusiasm to new Who was the 5th Doctor’s first episode. I was heartbroken to see Tom’s Doctor fall to his death, but hopeful when I learned that Tristan (my favourite character from All Creatures Great and Small) was taking over. Gotta love RTD. Just hope he gets his buddy Sally Wainwright to do some writing for the series to come.
It’s worth noting that, in the months since this video came out, some more information has been made available about the sequence of events that led to Tennant’s return. While the conclusion I came to at the time isn’t fully accurate, the broad strokes of “it was never a case of Tennant sidelining Ncuti” remain true.
What’s less true is that RTD was forced to bring Tennant back to fill this slot, we now know it was just something he wanted to do anyway.
fix the fqing meme group ya greasy tw@waffle

They need the audience injection that DT will bring as they launch on Disney+
It still does seem like a way to bring fan back after they left🤔
I can't be the only one to think that this is his Christopher Eccleston for one season gimmick all over again.
I REALLY don't think the vast, vast majority of Doctor Who fans who have watched and continue to watch the show are upset at Tennant's return. Not even remotely.
best thing to happen to DW since Capaldi left
Well, I think he pretty much explained perfectly why a majority of fans, while being really really happy to see Tennant, ARE upset though. BUT!! Hopefully they will manage to make it work. If they just randomly kill him off when "the real" 14 comes, I will be pretty upset though. I hope there's more to all this than that. 😁

@@DrVenture42 Mate I LOVE Capaldi, one of my fave docs... I have literally watched hell bent and heaven sent like 10 times or more such powerful episodes
On the contrary, this has saved my year
I could honestly watch David as The Doctor for at least the next 10 years.
I would have like to have seen Jodie given some halfway decent scripts to work with...

Especially considering his recent work on Good Omens which is a huge favorite at the moment.
Imagine changing a white doctor who into a young black guy 😂😂 that would be SO STUPID.
David gonna revitalize it for sure... the question is, does Ncuti have what it takes to be THE DOCTOR? As neither Jodi nor Chibnall were a match for the role and story...

completely agree. adding Donna to that makes me even happier.
My wife did the same lol

I started with Classic who when it was current. Tennant is absolutely the doctor in my opinion. And the answer came from the 50th. "Some day, you'll revisit some of the old faces, but only the favorites eh?" It would even explain how River knew his face but she said she had never seen him so young. A 60th anniversary like none other!
Most people probably forgot about that line from the 50th, I certainly did

Who the hell didn't like capaldi yo
Bingo.
THIS is the kind of history Doctor Who needed to recapture it's buzz, the return of a previous Doctor, specifically David Tennant's.
No one gave a shit about "the first female Doctor!", just like no one cared about "the first minority Doctor!". Believe it or not, people watch shows because they're telling good stories, not pushing weird social narratives that have been wholesale rejected by the majority of people (see the epic failures of recent - Star Wars, Amazon's Lord of the Rings, the entire MCU since the all-female Endgame scene and many other shows or movies that don't even deserve to have their names remembered)
David Tennant's return is basically retconning out Capaldi and the female doctor, as if they never happened, while returning to the literal perfect incarnation of Doctor Who in David Tennant, as well as the last time the show really felt *GREAT*.
Calpadi was great but it got kinda political when they did the fake news episode then you know they got political
One thing l loved about David's Doctor is that, they weren't afraid to also show his dark side. He got quite scary at times when the antagonist of the episode really pissed him off.

My first line would be "Doctor, you just keep getting better looking each time I see you"
@rickderrig9835 Maybe as a dream/hallucination, it'd be too awkward for afull series.
@@volkgames3041 Barrowman would still be good as Doctor...certainly far better than the last two
That line also predicted her season, too, the one after Capaldi.
@nyxnightmare3542 i dunno that whole religion bit was cringe as fuck. One of Tennets worst episodes, if not the worst one.
I'm confused why people don't like David's last line because I'm so in love with how perfectly bittersweet that was, it also outlines how human that doctor was which I thoroughly enjoyed seeing explored
I didn’t want him to go either!
They have no heart...just thinking of that scene makes me cry...
That line is the single greatest moment in the entire history of the show.
I haven't watched since Capaldi. I haven't seriously watched since Smith. Where I enjoyed both of these two enormously, DT told us he didn't want to go and I literally cried when he regenerated. Exactly how it played out for me. I didn't see a single Whittaker episode. No interest in that Dr. And I had given up on the series altogether when I saw Who was announced next. To have him pave the way before the newer Doctor is phenomenal, especially with how this happening increases the lore. It’s a landmark in DW history. I say let’s just hope they explain WHY it happens in the show well. If the writing is good then it doesn’t matter.
The ones that are upset are the ones who are part of the Toxic PC culture they started pandering to when Peter took over.

I do miss Amy, Rory and River Song too . . . That whole story was so clever and the cast were amazing x

I don't like any Doctor after Smith.
When in doubt, get David Tennant.
Can't get David Tennant? Don't worry, you can just get David Tennant!
Story-wise, remember that Ten's last words were "I don't want to go" and out of all the Doctors he seems to have the most regret, so maybe the reason he's (temporarily) back is because of unfinished business, particularly with Donna Noble.

I am definitely one of the fans that will come back for Tennant and hopefully rekindle my love for the show I fell in love with so long ago.
Agree on that. For me Matt was “my” first Doctor but David and Peter are right behind. ❤❤❤
im in the same boat
Smtih was the worst Doctor ever. And Amy and River and the Gang awful. Slapstick and lack of seriousness was not the way to go.
@@charlesmento5968 so you dont like doctor who, you just came to a short about doctor who to talk about how you dont like it? thats pretty sad
Best romance ever. 💜
100% the best they’ve ever had.
@@gregorysagegreene ug.. i hated the romance angle, until river came along.
I think that the key was Tennant himself. I loved his chemistry with Rose, but found his relationship with Frema Nametohardtospell's character just as enjoyable. Tennant is an actor who seems never to put a foot wrong.
I think he and Donna were even better!
I will never tire of David Tenant as the Doctor.
@@Apollo949 oh yes! Forget Gatwa. Somebody get Sean Pertwee in as the next Doctor!!
And bring back captain jack again too!!
'MY' doctor was Tom Baker, followed by Christopher Eccleston! (I'm 81)
Devid è il dottore preferito da tutti...all estero di sicuro
I am one of those who hasn’t really watched since Moffat left I am very glad to see David back
Unless the timeless child is retconned out of existence I have no interest in rewarding the BBC.
But timeless child is still canon. It’s all over.
I loved David Tennant as the Doctor. He really does light up the screen. A bridge can be a great way to get to a new place!
And as I said, even if they don’t get into heavy ten stuff. It’ll probably be fun, and that is important.
If I'm not happy, I don't watch. They can do whatever they want EXCEPT force people to watch crappy shows.
I'm completely on board for anything that gives Donna a better story ending.
I've always wanted to revisit the character and doing it with Tennant will be so special
Neither of them wanted to go. It makes sense.
Amen to that!
Nah
I think helping to restore Donna’s memory, even if it takes the Time-Lord part out of her, may be what helps Tennant’s Doctor accept he’s ready to move on.
Last time we lost him, all his friends moved on and he was left on his own, unable to keep his current companion, and probably scared to regenerate as it “feels like dying”.
I can’t see it happening but it would be interesting if Donna stayed for Ncuti’s first season, who knows!
I’m excited for David to be back for a little while! I honestly don’t know why they haven’t done a spin off series with him and Rose in that other universe.
When I heard the rumors about David coming back that was exactly what I thought they were going to do.
TOM BAKER 5 Dr WHO made it what it was
Jon Pertwee was my Doctor
I might be more excited to see Donna's story get revisited than I am to see David Tennant as the doctor again. I always felt like her time as a companion ended in a way that was uniquely cruel. I hope her character gets more closure this time.
They could certainly go with her brain at risk of burning up when she remembers.
Seeing David Tennant as the Doctor again made me so unbelievably happy!
I’m very happy That David Tennant is coming back . I thought he was great. You can give David Tennant, The role for for as long as possible ,as far as I’m concerned ! 💜🦋
pray for barbie 2 the return , barbie 3 the mission, barbie 4 at the hairdresser.......
His parting line will be "I just don't care anymore!"
His last words were *I don't want to go*
I'm just glad David is back.
Yer, Capaldi & Whittaker were crap.
@@gregorysagegreene capaldi and Tennant are my favourites, I like matt too, after binge watching it
Tennant's Doctor regenerated saying he didn't want to go. A character arc for his in-between Doctor could be accepting that his time has come, and regenerating without regrets. Instead of "I don't want to go" it would be "I'm ready."
I think that would be a really compelling story and set things up nicely for Ncuti's Doctor.
That straight up gave me goosebumps. Bravo, I hope thats what happens!
“Allonsy!” **regenerate**
that's amazing and it would be amazing character development for him hope something like that happens
"I don't want to go." Was one of the most touching and human moments about confronting the inevitable. I wouldn't undo that.
Good writers would do that
David is brilliant! Glad he stepped up to save The Doctor; this from an American fan.
David’s moment of regeneration was so haunting and tragic.
It’s not nostalgia it’s sheer desperation
You make a very good point about it being a returning showrunner, because we can see this move as something he’s doing in his fifth series, rather than first
I also am hoping they address the reason he changed outfits as this is the first time(?) this has happened.
Watching davids regeneration was genuinely sad for me, but seeing a returning face Is everything to me.

I'd rather these were just extra stories for the TENTH Doctor and Donna. Tennant 2 is a lazy marketing scheme
totally agree. best possible choice. Anyone who thinks its lazy doesn't get it, or isn't an actual fan.
@@desaulrichards9443 Actually it's the other way around with what you just said
I wanted Rose back ;(
Agreed. When David left, I quit watching. I only watched it because he was in it. He was my Doctor. To have him back, I'm very happy.

Those words are totally true to the core of the identity of Whittaker's doctor.
It's probably some deep tradition that the actors get to pick their final words. I don't know this is fact but as you say, it's quite interesting :D
Should never of made the doctor a women.
Absolutely agreed. Those three episodes (well, four-SITL was two episodes together), were probably the highest of heights that the series ever reached in my opinion, and they all happened with the same doctor.
By the way, The Girl in the Fireplace was the Madame de Pompadour episode.
I haven't been interested in Who for years. Yes, I will come back for Tennant.
I completely agree! It is funny you chose all Moffat scripts though 😂
This all makes so much sense, and makes me feel much better about the return of Tennant. RTD and the rest of the team have handled the situation very well, making the most of a difficult set of circumstances to revitalise excitement about the show. Bring it on!
Happy to make you feel better, I know how nice it is to put reservations aside and just be excited
Day of The Doctor & Time of the Doctor Established Smith was the 12th Doctor and Capaldi the 13th.
If David hadn't returned neither would the viewers
Who are you to say that David Tennant's fans have "fallen away?" We NEVER fall away. I'm
a Capaldi fan too but I LOVE David!
Is sad that eccleston doesn't want to go back since he wants Russel to be fired

I really like how 10 left, sometimes life is tragic & heartbreaking. I’ve had my fill of whimsical happy endings that subvert tragedy with Moffat.
I really hope his last words are “I still don’t want to go”, not as sad as when he first left, but bittersweet & resigned to his fate.

It's not really an arc, that incarnation just died.
@@TheMichaelmyth
The same reason that moment is so poignant & so beautiful.
I'm still kinda miffed at myself that I couldn't really enjoy it when I'd been wanting a women doctor almost from the start.
i did the same. and now i cannot wait. looks like the same director is also coming back!!
I recently watched Jodie's first season again, and it is definitely better the second time 'round. Matt Smith remains my favourite however, but Jodie wasn't as bad as at first might have appeared.
If they'd called him the Bridge Doctor instead of the Fourteenth Doctor, most of my problems with him would've gone away, but they didn't.
It's a good move to bring back the original fan base for what will hopefully be a great new era of Who
Are we the same person? :D I agree 100% with everything you wrote!
@@RooockKyy Legit the exact same here matt got me into doctor who
Matt Smith used to be my favourite when I started the show (my first episode was the impossible astronaut at 6 years old).
I agree completely about poor Donna.
I'd like to see Doctor Donna continue.
Her best scene was the regeneration into David! Her 2nd best scene was regeneration into the Doctor, when the audience hoped she fell to her death and we would get a new doctor. :)
@@amythomas7054 I hope they can hologram Donna's dad back into the show. Especially since he was responsible for David's departure in the first place.
Who wouldn’t want more David Tennant?
Absolutely love David Tennant - he can be the Bridge Doctor for as long as he wants as far as I'm concerned - he's a compelling Doctor and, as you say, lights up the screen:)
I don't know anyone who is upset that David is coming back, It's the only reason I'm coming back to the series, and my bestie as well. We both left the series when Capaldi took over. I think the show needs this. Tennent was a very strong doctor, my Doctor is Matt Smith and he will always be my doctor I started the show with him, but Tennent is also fantastic. I'm happy.
I honestly want to watch Tennant as the doctor all the time because he is one of my favorites who somehow always managed to catch my attention when I watched the series and I just wish they would keep him for a few more seasons because in my opinion he is the best doctor there is
Nobody was waiting on the new guy as much as they wanted Tennant back
I think bringing DT back to play 14 with the Celestial Toymaker is a fantastic move that will draw back sizeable audiences and use the 60th Anniversary as a platform for the launch of the15th Doctor era.
