Many parents fear that a diagnosis of dyslexia for their child means that their child will not be able to succeed academically and professionally. This can cause some parents to avoid seeking out a dyslexia diagnosis or dyslexia tutoring for their child. Is there justification in these fears? To understand this issue, it is important to examine why parents believe that dyslexia will prevent success.
First of all, many parents fear that if a child is dyslexic, they will not be able to learn to read, spell, or comprehend what they are reading. Another concern is that a child with dyslexia will always hate school and education, and not pursue education for that reason. Parents also fear that a child with dyslexia will not be capable of attending and graduating from college. Finally, parents often worry that a child with dyslexia will not be able to succeed in their chosen profession. I will address these concerns one by one.
Concerning the fear that dyslexic children cannot learn to read, spell and comprehend properly, this is completely false! Dyslexic children can learn to read and spell when they have the proper dyslexia tutoring and dyslexia treatment. In my years of teaching children with dyslexia, I have seen them succeed again and again when given the proper instruction and approach.
Many dyslexic children dislike school simply because they feel overwhelmed by a constant sense of failure, and the idea that nobody understands why they are struggling. If they have not been diagnosed with dyslexia and had anyone discuss it with them, they may not know why they are struggling either, and this can lead to endless frustration. Once a child with dyslexia is receiving the proper dyslexia tutoring and dyslexia treatment, their attitude about school often changes dramatically. Instead of being frustrated with school and hating it, they start to enjoy it and realize that it is possible for them to succeed.
Many dyslexic students attend and graduate from college. Many universities offer resources that can help a dyslexic student to succeed. For example, a college may have a learning resource center that offers tutoring in the various subjects that are offered at the college. Additionally, some universities are now offering alternative applications for students with dyslexia, rather than simply relying on their test scores to determine whether these students should be admitted.
Regarding professional success, there are countless dyslexics who have succeeded professionally! Some of them are at the top of their chosen fields. An internet search can provide many examples of dyslexics who have found great success in life. In my own experience, I have worked with adult students who were very successful in their chosen careers.
In conclusion, a child with dyslexia can succeed! If your child has dyslexia, encourage their dreams and aspirations. Dyslexia does not limit the opportunity for success.

    Hi I have 2 questions:
    - Is this close to what Dyslexia is like? geon.github.io/programming/2016/03/03/dsxyliea
-And does your mood effect your reading? For example, if someone if angry will it be harder for them to decode words vs. when they're in a good mood?

+Morgan BeVard Hi, Morgan. To answer your questions:
      - Dyslexia comes with a large variety of symptoms and degrees of severity. As a result, it's difficult to create a simulation that shows exactly what dyslexia is like. This page provides excellent info on the nature of dyslexia, if you are interested. www.dys-add.com/dyslexia.html
      - Mood will not change the overall affect of dyslexia on reading and spelling, but if a dyslexic individual is very frustrated, angry, tired, etc., this can affect their reading and spelling accuracy, simply because it affects focus. I hope that helps answer your questions!
