  • LAKE DISTRICT WALK FEATURING BUTTERMERE
    "Butter Lake of Buttermere”
    Filmed 2nd June 2016
    Post-production completed 30th July 2016
    For me, one of the loveliest parts of the Lake District is Buttermere, so I take a walk from the village which follows the lake shoreline. Despite being very busy with lots of other visitors it does not spoil my enjoyment of my day in Buttermere…..
    Filmed in the Lake District in the county of Cumbria. Locations include Buttermere village, Buttermere Lake and the start of both Newlands and Honister Passes.
    Written, researched, directed, camera and sound, edited and music by Patrick Leach.
    Any other names credited in this film, i.e. Bob Morgan and Martin Roy, are pseudonyms, which I used at the time of making this film. However, I no longer use these pseudonyms as I want viewers to be clear that my films are completely my own work.
    Click here for a map showing the route of the walk: osmaps.ordnanc...
    "The Solitary Rambler" is my series of amateur films of my journeys in the countryside accompanied by my own musical scores, which I compose and perform on my Yamaha keyboard.
    Please note that, as with all the films I make, this is not actually intended to be an extensive guide to the area. This is a mini-movie of my personal journey along the walk, in which I often share some of my own personal stories.
    If you are new to my channel, I strongly recommend reading the description under the “about” tab, which will provide a clearer understanding of what to expect in my films: / solitaryrambler

    Two years ago, I had a flat tire on a road overlooking Butter Lake. It was three hours before the tow truck arrived. I cherish the memory of the quiet of those hours, and of the loveliness of the scene before me.

    Well done Patrick, only found you this evening when i was looking at footage of Holmfirth, i am a Summer Wine fan unlike yourself, i've been waching it since it started in 1973.
    Buttermere is another of my favorite places, especially Gatesgarth farm as my first trip here was in 1970 when i was 16.
    A few of us came here on motorbikes and some of the others in a small van, with the camping gear.
    One of my mates had come here with the school some years before our trip and several had swam the width of the lake and got themselves into the Guiness Book of Records at the time.
    I think the last time i came here was in 1976, to visit some friends that had come camping, again i was on the bike but this time with my wife.
    I've been trying to get back again over the years but never got round to it, looks quite a bit busier now than what it used to be.
    The Fish Inn was a favourite place, spent many happy evenings in there.
    Nice one Patrick and take care.

    A few years ago Patrick I did a solitary ramble up Haystacks, and when I came down alongside the Lake I did exactly this walk, the weather was just like it was for you here, and watching this made all the memories come flooding back.
    If I was going back again I wouldn't go up any fells,I would just enjoy relaxing walks just like this, isn't it great how they carried on with the path through the rock,I remember that part very well.
    Beautifully filmed,expertly presented,fab music as usual,a stunning film.Thankyou.
    Pete.

      Back in 1991 I also walked up Haystacks too and then climbed Great Gable, wouldn't want to do that now. So this was a nice as it was another fairly easy walk around the lake and not too difficult to film. That path through the rock is great isn't it. Thanks once again Pete, your comments are very much appreciated. Cheers, Patrick :)

    Stunning video, my Dad and I used to camp at Gatesgarth and you could camp right by the river. We watched the trout jumping. That was in the 70's. Still awesome! I take my own kids there now.

    Walked Buttermere last Monday, we walked in the opposite direction though. When I 1st saw the lake from the Buttermere village end and stood at the water's edge I'm not ashamed to say I had a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye at the sheer beauty of it. Pity you didn't show the full majesty of the lake by standing by the lone tree at the end of the lake and show the whole length of it surrounded by the wonderful hills.
    Will look for more of your videos now.

    Stunning Simply Stunning i was totally blown away by the mountains ,and wonderful landscapes, Patrick , i didnt realise buttermere ,was so close to Cockermouth , a place i used to work in , in the 1970s when i left school i worked as a scaffolder , for a while and we did lots of work up in cumbria and the lake district ......
    Its amazing how many aircraft use the lake district for low flying exercises too ... Thank you so much Patrick for another excellent film .... Frank and Lee ...

    • @solitaryrambler
      @solitaryrambler  7 років тому

      This was really lovely to film and quite an easy walk around the lake. It's not far from Cockermouth as you say and Lorton in the previous film is even closer. That aircraft was amazing to see so I'm glad I managed to get a quick shot of it before it vanished. Thanks again Frank and Lee. Cheers, Patrick :-)

    Just come across this one. Been years since we were there. Best flat walk in the Lakes, I reckon. Totally agree about mobile phones. They isolate people rather than help communication.. My wife, a font of all knowledge, thinks you would enjoy Wycoller, a small hamlet in East Lancashire There's a ruined hall there that was allegedly featured in Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre. More to the point there's plenty of really good walking over the south P
    ennines.

    • @solitaryrambler
      @solitaryrambler  4 роки тому

      Thanks for watching. I've never been to Wycoller, but I have actually made several films in the South Pennines - if you get the chance it's worth looking at my playlists, and the short introduction video I made in May 2020 too. Many thanks again :)

    Thank you Patrick, a wonderful walk, interesting and beautifully filmed. I am surprised that the great Alfred Wainwright was not mentioned, as you walked past the church which contains his memorial window, and the many views of Haystacks, on whose summit his ashes were scattered. Another of Wainwight’s favourite areas of the Lake District. I believe his ashes were scattered on Haystacks which overlooks Buttermere. If you get the chance Patrick, one of my favourite walks is from Buttermere, up to the summit of Red Pike, along the arête to High Stile, where you can then descend back to Buttermere along the shore of the lake or press on to Haystacks, again returning to Buttermere via the shore of the lake. Pail Beachcroft
