Long handled crochet mesh bag

  • It's Monday so time for a crochet project.
    Instead of paying for plastic at the supermarket why not make a fabulous crocheted bag which can easily be folded up to a tiny size to pop in a pocket or handbag? This bag stretches to hold loads of goodies and its integral handles and 100% cotton composition make it super strong and comfortable to carry either in your hand or over your shoulder.
    It's easy to make this bigger or smaller and easy to shorten or extend the handles. It's so easy and works up pretty quickly.
    It makes a great beach bag or why not make them in different colours and hang them from pegs and stash kids toys away in them?

    Absolutely brilliant,you make it look so easy. I’ve tried learning this art a few times over the years,never with any success. That’s a really useful bag you’ve made,I’m all about using eco friendly items,I recycle like a mad woman too. The one thing I wish would change very quickly is the plastic production,that needs sorting ASAP doesn’t it. xx

      It really does and these kind of small gestures help but it's the manufacturers that need to be rethinking how things are packaged. Thank you for your compliments on the bag, it's a really simple project. Like most crochet it's that first round or two that are the problem, after those it's a doddle. I tried for years to do it and just never could and then one day it just happened for me. I always say that we can't unleash all of our talents at once otherwise we'd be overwhelmingly awesome so they have to trickle out through our lives :D x

    When you do the handles, you sc across, slip stitch right across to the other end where the handle meets the bag. Then do you slip stitch back to the original starting point, or go back across the handle? I had trouble deciding the order. :-)

    • @craftylittlethingsuk1995
      @craftylittlethingsuk1995  5 років тому

      If I'm right about what you're asking I chain the handle then I Single Crochet across then slip stitch then I Single Crochet back across the handle, slip stitch at the end where it meets the bag then single crochet over the handle again. I think I may have made a mistake when doing it in what I was saying and mixed up my single crochet and slip stitch. So always single crochet when working across the handles and always slip stitch when securing at each end of handle to the bag. Hope that helps.

After you do the slip stitches to the left do you slip stitch back over those slip stitches you just did to get back to the beginning of the handle? Great tutorial! Working on it now and have a question. When you are doing the increase rows are you doing one increase round and then the following rounds are just one single crochet in each loop, or are you doing the every other increase for all of the rounds until you start decreasing? I’m having the same issue as the original poster in that my edge is starting get reallly wavy. I’ve been doing the increase round for all of the middle of the bag and wondering if I should only be doing a single increase round followed by regular rounds. The video isn’t totally clear on that I don’t think.
