The shell would actually have a parachute to slow it's horizontal velocity before it released the shells.
They do but that would reduce the speed of the bomb thus preventing a greater impact.
heretic391 In real life the chute is so the bombs don't go off when the bomb shell releases. Also , I know ksp has no explosives yet so speed makes larger explosions but in real life bombs have their own payload and can be as slow as they want.

Actually, these were primarily to destroy ground troops, not buildings or armored vehicles, the hundreds of bombs released, would detonate just above the ground, raining slugs and fragments on the enemy.

Damn, great job! The bomb scatter looks awesome, and the jet fits the bomb load perfectly.
I was kinda on the fence about subscribing to you, and finally did, and I'm glad. This is quality stuff.
You're a genius without even trying heretic, changing the payload types changed the masses which made them spread out even more. Props to you for that.
Just a small suggestion for future tests: When you need the fairings to separate, try spinning. The centrifugal force will make them fly off without the need for separatrons. This will also help to spread out the bombs for a larger area of effect.

You could fit a stack of crew canisters in the planes middle section then airdrop the capsules with parachutes. Now you can start the invasion

It evolved (basically enlarged) from the Northrop YF-17 Cobra prototype, the competion to the now very succesful Lockheed Martin F-16 Fighting Falcon/Viper.

The canister actually spins extremely fast, so the submunitions spread even wider.
You might need to use RCS for that.

what you mean by "shell" is possibly a fairing designed to increase aerodynamic abilities (making it more aerodynamic) also to see the weight you can go into map view and in the craft info tab there is weight in tonnes
Under the fuselage of a bomber is a munitions bay, open it, bombs away. But fighters like the F-22 have a missile bay that can hold bombs, same idea as bombers.
You deserve alot more subs.

if you put a ring of sepretrons on a small radial decoupler then put small fuel tanks on either side and place on a vertical decoupler when you decouple the main coupler all the parts separate just turn the seps off unless you want a midair explosion
There was an Experimental British jet bomber in the late 70's called TSR-1, which carried its bombs in a detachable pods in the plane's tail. Once over the target, a drag-chute would deploy and the pod would slide out the back. Is that the kind of thing you were thinking of?
I like to use small RCS tanks for cluster bombs. You can fit a lot in a small space and they explode nicely.

The hornet he mentioned was a Mc Douglas FA-18E Super Hornet.
this ship could also have a spaceship in the middle to launch it into space or into a low orbit, but thats what I think you could try.

Hey heretic, there is an in-game way to check the total mass, you go into the map view (make sure you're focused on your ship) and click in the "I (information) button of the right side of the screen, hope this helps :)

you should use part clipping like you did for the plane and put those little rockets facing inward so it pushes the sides away from the bomb a lot faster and more easily.
you could also use a fairing for the cover

1:04 A Cluster BOMB is dropped or stays in one place. When you said it was launched from the ground that would be a missile (guided) or a rocket (no guidance after shooting)
You may be talking about a bomb bay or if you are talking about actual weapons themselves there is one, it is a giant box effectively filled with bombs, they just open the hatch and they fall out, it normally has a variety of bombs, such as ones which detonate on impact or timed.
Bomblet dispenser! Mi-24 in Afghanistan and Chechnya wars carried something like it, to dispense landmines.

I've made a lot of cluster bombs and icbms and bombers and missile launch pads firing ramjet powered high speed missiles that could be piloted by a computer core and reach over halfway round kerbin so it could strike anywhere and its launcher is actually a mobile platform so i can move it to hide it lol and even made a bigger one that holds a dosen icbms
i dont know how to use decouplers they always just flew away and do nothing
If you drop it from high altitude it should spread out farther, maybe you can cover the whole kerbal space center!
I made a cluster bomb ship you can't control with 1,500 fuel tanks as bombs on it. My computer couldn't handle it, however the ship is more stable than I thought. When I finally released the bombs it was so big , it looked awesome. I can't believe it worked.

Lol, damn that bomb is big! Makes for some nice explosions thats for sure. I don't think you could make it much bigger though because the game likes to crash with to many explosions happening at once. Or at lest mine does when i test bomb weapons :P Awesome video bud :) P.S. still working on the craft i would like you to test ... I'll give you a hint ... It can smell fear .. ;)

At 8 minutes and 22 seconds into the video where you hit the light, I do that all the time too.
Isn't it impossible to create a closed square in KSP? (Aside for multi-point docking that can only occur outside of the VAB.) How did you connect that cross-beam at the rear of your plane, wouldn't that create a closed loop with the front bits of the plane?

Cause you asked I tried to find the mass of the bomb. By the information I could calculate at 7:23 I have its (V=12.5m/s) (a=1.56m/s^2) (delta t= 8s) (Delta X= 100) I can't solve for mass without Force though and I can't for the life of me find that. Maybe someone can pick up the numbers from here and help out? mostly for my curiosity also at this point.

It's a bit late to say, but the words you're looking for are "bomb bay" Most planes made for speed and/or high altitudes that drop bombs will have them in internal bays that open up and allow them to drop out. F-22 Raptor is a good example, though that one is mostly an air-to-air missile user. Same concept really.
the bombs in most WWII bombers was in the center of the plane and its in the centre of stealth bombers as shell and its not that common in jets,
+luc lecompte fighter-bombers (with bombs on the wings) were actually a lot more commonplace in WWII than traditional bombers. those weren't heavily used until the
Americans entered the war.
Bahoma - 246 I honestly wouldnt even put both the B1 and Tu160, they're basically the same. To name some more: B36, T-50, J20, J31, Tu22, T4, (canceled) XB70, (canceled) XB48, B57, basically any bomber after 1935.
Theoreticaly, if you get the bomb spinning, it might allow it to spread far better

Make it for orbital usage from a space station, like bigger, like dropping 2 or 3 bombs at a time, something ridiculously overkill.

But FYI being some that used to work on ordance for the NAVY the bomb inside of the cluster is called bomblets the are about 2.5 feet long and of a big point on the end and are armor peircing. As for the amount that information is wrong. the most the carry is about 250 bomblets. But good video and cluster design.
