First time viewer here I loved your video! I specially love connecting modern elder scrolls with the more obscure entries of the series (tbh I love that with all franchises I like, most of them go back to before this century). This video going in about how Nafarilargus develops himself from eso to redguard is awesome!!
Beautiful, heartwarming comment! Welcome to the channel. I agree it's super cool to find out what's out there and connecting in ways that feel more relative. Wikis can feel like a hopeless sprawl
I never even realised that the ESO Dragonguard Dragon was the same as the Redguard dragon. Huh, neat. Good thing I'm planning on replaying Dragonguard soon, maybe I should also replay Redguard while I'm at it.
The plot is fantastic but the game and controls are utterly broken, it was made for an extinct game system and hasn't been ported or remade in an open source engine like morrowind or daggerfall have... personally I would love a rebuild of both redguard and battlespire as the lore and world building are some of the best in the series
I'm a skybaby so I almost cried with Redguard's controls lmao, but despite that, it's by far one of my fav TES games, the story was way cooler than I expected and I love the lore. Seen the first dwemer ruins (at least I think those were the first, in Arena there were just generic "dwarven mines") or Tiber Septim's imperial troops was awesome. I hope those kind of things don't get too much retconned in future games, I know the imperial legionaries looked like something out of Star Wars lmao but it had its charm
Excellent! Gives me lots of inspiration to think and write about this amazing character. I didn't vote in the poll because I didn't know what this was, but I'm a fan. I think there's nothing really like this
@@LeftoverPat I want to write him into my Lancer tabletop campaign, a sci-fi setting with mechs. Theres a lot of parallels between dragons in TES and AI in the Lancer setting that I never noticed until watching this video - powerful, usually malevolent entities with a kind of god-king who rules over them. A rebel dragon working as a mercenary for the empire is awesome and I basically will just rip that directly into our game. I will definitely email but it won't be TES sadly!
I'm going to be honest. I really love nahfahlaar so much in ESO. I Saw him like a paatruhnax with some Odahviing un his personality. Now i'm sad knowing he die. For the Elder scrolls 6 i'm wishing something like this to Paatruhnax, Odahviing or Even Durnehviir, not that they die, but that they have a continuity in history and legacy. In my preference, I would like to see that other dragons accept the change and have some harmony with mortals just like this 3. (Durnehviir doesnt count)
Honestly I'm happy to hear more and more about cool Dragons and I'm happy I got to know Nahfahlaar from this video (I was sort of just fucking around in Elder Scrolls Online doing sidequests touching grass the usual so adventuring and thus I never actually met him yet in game) but I'm also sad that such a flawed but wellwritten Dragon is basically already dead..... a Dragon that realised he made mistakes and felt remorse and thought about a few things and found his new way his new pourpuse who made a friend with Ja'darri and after losing her felt shame but eventually teamed up with Tiber Septim seemingly maybe even respecting him...... and apparently he is already dead cause the player apparently kills him in Redguard...... its just sad..... So long story in short I'm happy I got to know Nahfahlaar through your video but I'm sad that he might never be the part of the sequel or whatever is yet to come for the franchise..... then again the Redguardwas not a dragonborn sooooooo idk maybe he might come back..... could be good.
4:15 interesting point about the amulet's covenant and the empire being immortal. Were the TESV writers also foreshadowing the empire's eventual fate with the 4th era Medes being the first dynasty separated from this covenant? Of course they don't need the amulet thanks to Martin Septim and his sacrifice, but the symbolism is quite strong...
It's interesting the Medes kept the Empire together at all, but symbolically, you're on to something that the Empire is slowly crumbling as - arguably - a direct result of Oblivion & Septims being gone. It would be hilarious if this was all actually because Nahffy is sleeping though.
@@LeftoverPat Can we really say the Medes kept the Empire together? By the events of TES 5: - Skyrim is in a civil war - Morrowind's Red Mountain blew up. - Black Marsh seceded and formed their own empire that attacked Morrowind - Elsweyre, Valenwood, and Summerset Isle are all under the Dominion - And Hammerfell seceded from the Empire Heck, now that I list what all the provinces been up to I just realised how bad a hand the Medes got and just how messy the 4th Era's getting.
@@alexanderticonuwu7591 Some of these events you mention occured during Ocato's regency or before the Medes, like the Red Year, Black Marsh invading Morrowind or Elsweyr being "saved" by the Altmer and falling under their influence. I think the Empire was already crumbling during the Oblivion Crisis with an "it's every man by himself" type of situation ;( In that sense I see the fate of the Empire as something analogue to the one of the real life Roman Empire, with the Julio-Claudian dynasty collapsing and being replaced by many usurpers, like Thules the Gibbering or Galba and eventually some "good ones" like Titus Mede I/Vespasianus. I personally think the Medes did a good? job despite the circunstances, loosing the Great War could've put all of Tamriel under the Dominion, yet they still managed to maintain their independency and provinces like High Rock, Hammerfell, and Skyrim (at least until the rebellions of the latter), and like Rome, the thing is not really to rule all the world or maintain all the former provinces but rather keep the Empire alive; just look at the Eastern Roman/Byzantine Empire which lived centuries with half or 1/4 of their original territories and crushed thousands of provincial revolts far greater than Skyrim's. We have yet to see if the succesor of Titus Mede II is gonna be a good emperor and maybe reconquer the former provinces (like Aurelianus) or ally with them against the Dominion, or an Elder Scrolls version of Constantine XI Palaiologos. Though I love the Empire, I also want to see a Mer-ruled Tamriel for a change, maybe the next game would be about being the Resistance against the n4zi/thalmor regime (? Or to become the embodiment of Pelinal's madness
Cyrus needed the soul gem which contained the soul of Crown Prince A'Tor to attempt to resurrect the prince and lead the resistance against Tiber Septim. Nafalilargus was unwilling to give up the treasury, so he had to be slain for Cyrus to obtain the gem.
In my head cannon his name is Nahfaalilargus to reflect his fealty to Tiber Septim renouncing his dragon hood in the name Nahfahlaar to serve as a soldier of the Empire cuz Nahfaalilargus sounds like it could be an older more proud and majestic imperial name
Something people don't realize is that Nahfahlaar's name is absolutely badass. People don't know what Laar means, but considering he's a mercenary and the first two words are Fury For... I believe Nahfahlaar's name translates to "Fury For Hire"
There’s a rumor that Alduin resurrected him but he chose to stay in hammerfell because of his self-serving nature, a lot of people are expecting there to be a dragon in a cave in TES VI and it would make perfect sense for it to be him
TL;DR there's no evidence for it and given dragons weren't rising like bunnies after the 1st era, we can imply Alduin is just alpha like that. Only he can use the Resurrect shout effectively. Welcome to the wonderful rabbit hole of TES lore! r/teslore always has a question on this every few months because it's just weird to parse. Numinex dragon skull is above Balgruff's throne, after all. Nords probably knew of their existance but the tl;dr consensus is that after hundreds of years, it's enough to consider it legend. Think about how few people actually know about the Renaissance today. In Skyrim, Dragon Burial mounds exist, but like fairy rings today, maybe some people don't actually believe it was "dragons" per se. In our information age it's easy to take for granted that we're 2 clicks away from curing ignorance. Unrelated but Id love to hear a video from you on the islands outside of tamriel! Its a subject ive never really thought about or bothered to learn
i freaking love your content. bro, never stop, really♥
Odahviing could be like Nahfahlaar in the future one day! Working with a Dragonborn and getting far more than he could've gotten alone.
That clip from QI is just pure gold.
I didn't even know there were dragons in the Skyrim series before Skyrim.
Would love to see some other videos for the other dragons like codex types like this
Binged your channel a while back, loved all of it! Thanks for the vids and good luck with whatever youre working on now!
You're very strong willed to tackle Redguard
I think there's nothing really like this
Thank you so much! I would love to see any writing you do on him. Feel free to email from my About page!
Leftover Pat vid? Less gooooo!
In online his design looks alot like a Welsh Dragon
Would you look at that, a precedent proving delphine wrong.
thanks for talking about him, didn't know he was in ESO
I love Nahfahlaar now
The Fortunatto art is great. Checked them out thanks to this vid
Incredibly happy you appreciated it! Absolutely agree, their art is a treasure on earth
You vs the guy she tells you not to worry about
Fantastic video as always
Cyrus may have been a skilled swordsman, but he was no Dragonborn. Nahfahlaar's story may not be over just yet
Feel like an idiot for not seeing he was the same Dragon in Redguard.
Easy to miss, I think 🧐
Can we get some more lore videos on these other dragons besides paarthanax of course we all know about him
Haha I'm glad you touched on the red dragon incident
As much as people hate on the retcons in ESO, I sure as hell approve of the game's team digging up Nahfaalilargus and expanding his lore.
That was so incredibly interesting. great vid
By the events of TES 5:
- Skyrim is in a civil war
- Morrowind's Red Mountain blew up.
- Black Marsh seceded and formed their own empire that attacked Morrowind
- Elsweyre, Valenwood, and Summerset Isle are all under the Dominion
- And Hammerfell seceded from the Empire
Heck, now that I list what all the provinces been up to I just realised how bad a hand the Medes got and just how messy the 4th Era's getting.
@@alexanderticonuwu7591 Some of these events you mention occured during Ocato's regency or before the Medes, like the Red Year, Black Marsh invading Morrowind or Elsweyr being "saved" by the Altmer and falling under their influence. I think the Empire was already crumbling during the Oblivion Crisis with an "it's every man by himself" type of situation ;(
In that sense I see the fate of the Empire as something analogue to the one of the real life Roman Empire, with the Julio-Claudian dynasty collapsing and being replaced by many usurpers, like Thules the Gibbering or Galba and eventually some "good ones" like Titus Mede I/Vespasianus.
I'm not particularly familiar with hammerfells lore could someone fill me in on why Cyrus kills him?
100k views, and yet still leaves to get milk. Truly a Sigma move
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣my favorite explanation i've heard
@@LeftoverPatdo you have any plans to come back?
ngl I remember and know Durnehviir is the 1 dragon beside pathanaax I remember completely. Literally made a modded lich build around him lol.
That's sick, what a cool rp idea
I didn't even realise he was the dragon from ESO
I always immediately click on your videos when i see them!
Something people don't realize is that Nahfahlaar's name is absolutely badass. People don't know what Laar means, but considering he's a mercenary and the first two words are Fury For... I believe Nahfahlaar's name translates to "Fury For Hire"
Furry for hire?
@@DM-Ozthat's just a mascot. Which makes sense if you look at the Empire banner. It's a dragon
where did he go ? :'-)
There’s a rumor that Alduin resurrected him but he chose to stay in hammerfell because of his self-serving nature, a lot of people are expecting there to be a dragon in a cave in TES VI and it would make perfect sense for it to be him
Really good video
Craz theory idea - "Nafalar is Durvhenihr". Sorry if misspelled dragons name, they are hard to write correctly.
They’re not the same, Durnehviir was trapped in the soul cairn in the merethic era, bro literally has been stuck there for like 4500 years
Well done!
you are awesome LeftoverPat
Thankyou for this video
my god i thought that tumbnail was something else
It’s a shame He had to be slain by Cyrus. He would of been a great ally to the last dragonborn.
This may sound dumb ash but are we sure that other strong dragons aren’t able to resurrect the dragons left?
TL;DR there's no evidence for it and given dragons weren't rising like bunnies after the 1st era, we can imply Alduin is just alpha like that. Only he can use the Resurrect shout effectively. This post has some awesome ideas and alternatives though www.reddit.com/r/teslore/comments/hdd1mk/is_alduin_the_only_dragon_that_can_revive_other/
Great vid
I am new to TES lore amd played only TESV but I would like to ask why does the nords didnt know Dragons exist if there is a literal dragon companion of Tiber Septim which the nords worship as Talos.
In medieval/fantasy times, all we have are texts and legends -- all of which are littered with "unreliable narrator"
@@LeftoverPat i see i get the point. It is due to lack of historical writing or historical institution that makes the nord ignorant that dragons do exist and not a tale.
He cute Imma pet him and cuddle him and pat his tail
He would love that
Paarthurnax did not ally with the dragonborn just because he could kill him, that's just ridiculous
Where do I go in eso to do this dragonguard quest?
Senchal, SE Elsweyr. Need the DLC tho
Banger video
Grigori survived tje arisen
Nah fahl aar
Fury Prepared Loyal
bro I dont play ESO or know anything about Redguard, I thought this was gonnna be about that cut dragon from Daggerfall.
Unless Alduin did bring him back and we'll see him again in ES6
I'd be willing to accept both names as canonically. He certainly wouldn't be the first elder scrolls character to have another name.
In fact many of the older entities have multiple aliases.
Ode, more like oldie
IT WAS A DRAGON BREAK
Pat hasn't uploaded because there is no leftover lore left
I hate the fact some random pirate killed him
did he die die or can he come back to life eventually?
he can return as long as he wasn't absorbed. cyrus "slayed" him but it doesn't mean he's dead-dead
@@LeftoverPatA lot of people think he’s gonna return in TES VI with the reasoning that Alduin resurrected him, he could be a lore giver
Isnt there a big plothole in how Nahfahlaar was able to die and Cyrus was even able to kill a dragon?
No dead dead. Just...waiting to gain his flesh and blood.
I didn't know anything about this
ESO just can't keep its grubby paws out of anything can it
It’s part of the series timeline lol, it’s not a big deal.
Well Parthanax says all dragons names are three words, like a shout, so his longer name was incorrect to begin with, now Nah-Fah-Laar is correct
