Remember the RTH is not designed to return to the take off point, it is designed to land about 3m in front of the controller. This is because if you are taking off from a boat your boat will be in a different place when you come to land and it did that perfectly if you review the footage

He hasn't put it through any paces at all. Zero. Just opened a box and flew around a field. This is a drone designed for lifting heavy stuff over the ocean and he has not tested one single feature of what gives it the ridiculously expensive price tag.

I’ve been searching but I can’t seem to find a single camera linked to swellpro that has zoom. I have multiple drones from different brands and I love the waterproof option but I can’t seem to find a camera that has a zoom. Thank you

Sketchy software, definitely not intuitive like DJI drones.

Great video. Well done. I really wanted to get this drone as I fly over water in NY and FL a lot. I use my iPad Mini 5. I just keep taking chances with my Air 2S and Mavic Mini. Fly safe, Dustin.

you're prob safer with the DJI drones. You rarely get these things back if they fall in the ocean... they simply drift away and you never see them again.
Hi Dustin, Mahalo for your great reviews! I'm still flying my SD3 here on the Big Island fishing. Actually I'm on my second SD3, my first one went off the cliffs at Kalapana and never recovered. Those drones are pretty tough, I crash my a couple of time but was still able to get it back up. Once I hit the gps T switch by mistake and thought I was having a fly away. Had to crash it in the aa lave field. Yes they do Not fly like DJI drones! Enjoy your videos.

This thing is like mowing the lawn without a blade shield. Definitely a rough and scary machine! Shows you how DJI really has its stuff together.

Agree. The good thing for Splashdrone 4 is that our team can keep upgrading the drone software and APPs, so that the drone function and user's experience will be better and better...

My father-in-law just sent another phantom swimming last night. I was sure swell pro would be the answer. Without an full size iPad(not mini nor pro) and a cable connected to the iPad like DJI. This is just too much data going over wifi. A waterproof DJI like drone is needed in the market. After all these years I'm astonished it doesn't exist..... 😟

My new Splash4 had various problems from the very begin. "Lost connection", strange, uncontrolled, behaviour while flying, no picture from the camera on the SDfly app. I messaged the reseller and also their support team. After 4 months of emails their answer was "we will send spare parts to fix it in Greece". No question to replace it (just the drone not the camera, telecontrol, batteries etc).

I like my old Splash Drone, the batteries are 1/4 the cost since theyare not proprietory. This seems like a potentially nice drone but I hope they have worked out the bugs by now (Nov 2022). I'm glad you pointed out that you don't need a phone for the flight. It make little sense to have a waterproof controller if you needed your phone mounted. As for the sideways jump on takeoff, that can be dangerous flying from a boat. My Splash Drone did it once and sawed off a prop on a davit. For the record I also have a Spty + which is a lot lighter.
Does the splash 4 has a fly restriction or geofencing on it? This video shows me alot about the splash 4. Also do you custom build drones?
Is there a part 3 to 6 coming? or have you just returned the drone due to it's poor performance.?

Hi Dustin and thanks for reviewing this drone. Any way you can post the images for downloading to properly check out? Bit dismaying how erratic and flakey the software is at the mo. Cheers.
For the subscribers. EIS crops way in so it can straighten out the footage without showing the edges. Kind of like key framing.
GPS causes abrupt stops. Unfortunately with electronic image stabilization you have that croppped in look. Your footage will actually look better with the GPS and EIS off.
With no gimbal this is what you get. That being said a Mavic cannot take a dip in the ocean so it’s all about your purpose for the drone.
dont forget to "Clibrate" your compass
Dang ... talk about "not ready for prime time". So many 'quirks'. I swear it started to 'toilet bowl' after exiting that orbit mode. The FPV video was pixelated and it also locked up. Not great that the APP crashed/froze. Recorded video quit twice. I don't know ... perhaps they will get some of these issues fixed with updates. This just re-enforces my previous comment in another video that a lot of manufacturers rush product to marked before its ready ... and let the end user report 'bugs' .. not good .. especially at the cost of this one. Going to keep watching your adventures with this one ... kind of like going to a NASCAR event and waiting for crashes ... ha ha! Take Care ... Mahalo!

I was thinking about getting one of those, but that price is just a little bit much for me. I think it's a great drone? I like that it's completely waterproof, even the remote. Thanks for sharing. 👍👍👍
Hi Raymond, actually we have an installment service. Lol
the waterproofing is more of a sales gimmick than anything because if it crashes into the ocean it usually just drifts away and you never see it again. If it crashed then it prob lost power so you can't take off from water and even if it has power try taking off in a real ocean with big swell and breakers. I've yet to see one work properly under those conditions.
How do you disable the Geo fencing? In this drone it definitely has the Geo fencing because I’m unable to fly it in certain areas
To centered the gimble press gimble mode button once
Captain Drone reviewed this same drone but his unit didn't exhibit none of these issues, but i don't believe he thoroughly put it through it's paces, always thorough from beginning to end, great review! This drone cost a lot of money to even have these issues, so they need to step it up on the quality control...
When reviewers (some also known as salesmen) don't show how things REALLY work... Who benefits? Definitely NOT the potential buyer. Sorry it just frustrates me that consumers are not fully informed of the issues they really need to be aware of. Yes this is around a $2000.00 drone! ✌️🍻

I saw that your reviewed the drone 1 year ago and after that period SwellPro issued some firmware updates etc. Have you updated the firmware/app and tried the drone after that? Connection problems, video lags, unpredictable behaviours etc. are serious concerns for me as I am not a pro. I have 7 days to decide whether to buy it or not. I am planning to use it in my boat to find mooring locations in crowded coves and transfer some stuff to shore or another boat in case of need. (Of course some video recording for fun 😊 ).

So, I just purchased one of these online today from Swellpro... It's going to take like 9 days to get here.. But man.. I'm already kind of disappointed with the video transmission signals.. I'm used to flying DJI Phantoms, and this reminded me of how the video transmission used to be before the lightbridge was introduced.. Lightbridge was a game changer and rarely laggy or fuzzy.. I do a lot of boat videos, and that's mainly why I bought this. After losing two Phantoms to the ocean over 8 years of flying and never being able to recover them, I thought this would do the trick.. I guess we will see.. wish DJI would make a waterproof drone..
I'm really hoping they improve on their move to digital FPV. Perhaps some updates can improve it 🍻
The video transmission signal problem happens when you're in the 'blind spot' for the drone, which is about a 40 degree angle downwards and this blindspot increases with altitude. You can see proof of this as the video tends to cut out when the drone is almost overhead Dustin.
In order to avoid this from happening you just have to make sure you fly the drone up and away from you and for closer missions, to fly at a lower altitude to reduce the blindspot range.

This particular drone had so many issues I had to send it back to China and the idiots that run that place made me pay for the shipping worst company I've ever dealt with my life I'll never buy a product from this company ever again swell pro is horrible. I gave this drone so many chances you're 40ﾟ angle c*** is not the case it doesn't fly good at all it's very unpredictable And the connection it was horrible all the time.

Dustin are you having any issues with the controller and drone disconnecting? Mine has been disconnecting almost instantly after takeoff and making it basically unflyable, as well as loosing the connection with the phone, and I am using iPhone 13 pro max
I'm honestly having a hard time wanting to fly it again after this test due to the bad FPV and strange control. I'll be doing a water test soon at the beach to put it through the ringer. Hopefully they'll have updated some by then 🍻

Haven't got it in the water yet but plan to very soon and test everything in the ocean like I usually do 🍻
@@DustinDunnill still waiting... and do a proper test. Every test of water takeoff I've seen they use a flat calm lake or flat sea when in practice these drones are used in surf with big swells. The hype just doesn't live up to reality... especially at that sort of price.
Hey Dustin I couldn’t find a video where you thoroughly tested this drones range nor did you really prove it’s load capacity by only attaching a battery. Am I missing a video where you attached pre determined weights onto it, or wind tested it, or accurately represented it’s range??? This video seemed to focus on little non deal breakers for me instead of crucial elements necessary for a fishing drone.
Hey this was the only flight review I've done so far. We were in the process of moving overseas. I should definitely do some follow-ups. It would also be interesting to see if the software/firmware has improved 🍻
Thanks for this Dustin! Lotsa bugs in the Firmware/Software! I would have crapped in my pants with that type of drone being out of control. Don´t think it is a good idea you doing the Max distance video yet...would be to risky until they come out with updates for it!
Hey Geko. Yes, our team keeps updating the Firmware/Software, and also updating the manual, and making more tutorial videos, to prevent potential misoperation.
@@Swellpro my SD4 been hovering in a toilet bowl when getting back from flying out bait scaring the poop out of me. What could be causing that? Also been having a lot of freezes and lags While flying having to restart app. Do I need to update the firmware? Was excited to buy this drone but it’s been disappointing so far.
This drone company is horrible! None of the drones ever work as advertised! I have flown multiple splash drones and they all fly sketchy at best! They always end in a crash if you fly them enough! Video comes in and out and since they use a gortex type membrane to allow air to enter and keep moisture out the barometer always has a hard time of keeping a consistent altitude. Once that membrane gets wet the flight characteristics get even worse. Save yourself a headache and buy a DJI or alltel drone and just put a payload release on it if that's what you really want. It is certainly a waste of 3000+ dollars!
where is the rest of the tests you promised for this drone? You've done two videos on it so far and a year later still not tested any of the stuff that really matters for this type of drone.
Would you recommend this drone for fishing because I’m new to drones and would love a water proof drone because I’ve seen a lot tumble and just get ruined. Is it really worth the money

Could part of the phone lag and quality be from using the iPhone 7? Just wondering because they came out in 2016 and the phones were basically rendered obsolete via software updates. Just curious if you or anyone tried it with a newer phone.
I was thinking it may be possible but then some other owners have committed the same issue with newer iPhones 🤔🍻

Not yet.
God video in general. But if new pilots to the SplashDrone 4 relies on “thoes who know drones” it would suit Them to read the manual.
Many of your issues is explained in the user manual. I.e the smooth+ functions, and the gimbal center request.
On the GC3-S and GC3-T the button gimal, Will infact return gimbal position to center.
I have just puchased the drone and mounted the GC3-T camera and gimbal.
We have exporinced that the drone suddenly climbs to 120+ m in altitude without Warning and pilot input.
BIG issue in My minde
what about the launch where it moves 6 feet away before becoming GPS stabilised? surely that's not a feature advertised in the manual?

Your balance problem may be that you probably have a heavy camera causing the drone to swing and sway back and forth because of it's location on the drone not being centered with the drone.
It seems like your apps is set to orbit for default custom mode.

(In the U.S., it is unlawful to carry a battery as external cargo. That type of battery is hazardous cargo. It's okay to have a battery IN the aircraft, but it is NOT okay to carry one under the aircraft.)
So you need wifi to link your phone to the swellpro controller?
Yes, a 5G WiFi capable device. Or you can fly without a phone also if you want 🍻
The fact that this drone is waterproof, as well as the controller and it can be flown in the rain far outweighs the very few negative technicalities in my opinion. It one is using a drone for the optimal in filming shots such as a real estate agent, etc., this would not be the drone for you. For people like me who use a drone for crop review and drainage issues on the farm then this is perfect.

The drone has its own wifi hub and similar to a router inside it. Unsure of any other drones that do this. It means that it can do things that other drones can't do. (difficult to explain) This whole side of the drone wasn't covered in the review.
Does this drone have geofencing?
You can set a geo fence in software 🍻
0 it's a waterproof drone I would like to see someone put his drone to the test why purchase the Drone to fly it on load . Strong is specifically made for water. The average drone cannot do so well in water. But this drone can . I want to see how it actually handle itself in and out of water.

It's spec's meet swellpro's requirements of 5ghz WiFi (802.11ac or Wi-Fi 5). You should buy a SD4 and tell us how it works 🙂🍻

Completely different Android phone was used in the Fimi Mini flight review. I clearly showed phones used in both videos 🍻
I’m using a iPhone 13 pro max with my splash 4 and having the same issues with connection, my issues are way worse than what this video shows, have not found a resolution

Considering it's price, I'm not very impressed with it. If it is actually waterproof that's about its only interest for me.

You shouldn’t need WiFi or cell service to fly that drone. I know I can fly my old DJI Phantom 3 Pro and my Mini 2 without either. The drone and the controller use GPS satellites for everything they need, and your phone or tablet connects to the controller with a cable or some drone controllers use Bluetooth. Just think of how people fly and film with drones in extremely remote locations that have no cell service, never mind WiFi. What I got in the habit of doing is if I’m using a phone, I put it in airplane mode so I don’t get any texts, notifications, or calls that would interrupt the app and possibly cause a disaster, lol

It may be a quad but not quite how you are testing it. There are many camera drones a lot cheaper. Its got other purposes.

This drone is cool and all, but I purchased it and immediately had issues. The app is beyond terrible, and the drone went into a low altitude orbit, in which I had no control over. Very dangerous

Rough and unfinished, but serviceable
not serviceable at all. These things wash up all the time on beaches where I live and are almost always water damaged. I agree with you if they were 1/4 the price.

The only good thing about the splash drones , is they can land on water, thats it... the rest of the features are the same as a drone worth 100$, its way over priced ill never buy another one, stick with dji all day
100% that one sentence is better than Dustin's entire review and way more accurate. These drones are rubbish and have only two things going for them. One they're waterproof (which causes overheating problems) and two they can lift heavier weights than consumer DJI drones. Everything else about them is like ten years old Phantom 2 technology.

The SplashDrone 4 is not a simple UAV. We strongly recommend that people understand the instruction manual, understand various functions, correct operation methods and precautions. If you do, SplashDrone 4 will be a great device for them....
