Allen & Heath's latest mixers, the XONE:23 and the XONE:23C, are the company's entry-level replacement for the somewhat aged XONE:22. In this review, we'll be focusing on the 23C, which is essentially the base model with an integrated soundcard and a few new styling touches.
I really enjoyed my time with the mixer, and while I admittedly have a few minor gripes, I feel very confident in saying that this an excellent choice for anyone looking for a 2 (+2) channel mixer with soundcard at this price point (around $399 USD).
Glad you touched on the Gain stage issue. I was disappointed that it has such a poor gain boost. I sent it back. Also, the headphone output isn't loud enough. I wanted to like this mixer, but it just fell short.
what did you take as replacement for the xone 23c. I think the djm-250?
Great great. Well presented. Thanks
Is it true that using the Xone 23C with Traktor I can't use the physical gain of the mixer to control the volume of the tracks? Thanks.
Yes, that's true! Even with Traktor Pro 3, you have no gain control on the xone 23c. I find it very irritating. Gain control is essential on a mixer.
Great and detailed review. Could you post the track ID btw, nice track :)
hello, great review, one question, if you use it with traktor, you would mix externally with the mixer right? it means two independent audio sources would come out from the sound card to each mixer channel? so you would contral everything (equalizer, volulme, etc) from the mixer directly? all expect the channels gain? so controlling the gain in the software is still needed? thank you
Hi buddy. Thanks for all information. Is that possible to send external effects to Mic Line for vocal?
hey,
witch one is better the xone 23 without sound card or the older one 22, i will use it with traktor pro 2 and timecode....i´m a newbie
so what was the answer?
Help me understand here... If i want to use the 23c with Traktor but i am loading and playing songs from the laptop, i do not need to have DVS support for it to work , right? If later on i add a k2 unit, it should/map to Traktor OK?
Great review! thanks! is it possibile to use it with an external soundcard? just in case I want to use my m-audio 1814 firewire so that I have a software mixer and I can control all the volumes....but I don't know if it's possible to bypass the internal sound card..
Xone Rackmount Kit for this available?
Which mixers best for mobile DJ xone 23 and pioneer djm 250
why they shorten the length of the faders on xone 23 ? I really liked more the old faders :( it really worth the upgrade from 22 to 23 ?
Hi. I have the same problem. I have my turntable in the liner inputs do can't get my signal above 0 sometimes +3. Have I connected it wrong?. I also have a cd played connected and the signal can go all the way up. Can you help. Thanks.
You'll need to switch on the pre-amp on the turntable or the mixer. You're giving phono level input to a line level input.
I thinking to switch to 23c i have the 23 its posible to use Ableton with the 23c?
I would be looking to use this with 2 Numark NDX 500s and serato software, do I need an external soundcard for this? I'm a little confused about how the setup works
Hey Joshua, sorry for the delay. If you're trying to use DVS (as in, timecode CDs with your NDX 500s) then you would need to use an external interface like the Rane SL2 (amzn.to/1u6Q2rX) for Serato. This mixer only officially supports DVS/timecode control with the included MixVibes Cross software, so it's probably not the best Serato solution.
If you like this mixer, you want to use Serato, and you don't mind an external box... get the base model Xone:23 (without the "C"). It's basically this mixer without the integrated sound card, and would save you some money.
If you want an all-in-one mixer solution for Serato with DVS, you're looking at something like a Rane Sixty One which sells for $1300 USD. Several hundred dollars more expensive than the other option.
The cheapest option, if you're not already invested in Serato, is to get this 23C and use the MixVibes software that's included. I'm not very well versed in that software though, so definitely check it out beforehand and make sure you like it.
Hope this helps!
Hi Man can I remove the Audio 10 and still using the two turntables with traktor?
No, the 23C isn’t certified for use with Traktor Scratch.
sorry, can i use the real vinyl and the control vinyl in timecode mode?
hey any tips using the EQs. Sometimes when i bring in a track its' too loud.
Will do my best to help! Unfortunately I don't have the mixer around anymore as this review was recorded over 3 years ago.
If the overall song is too loud when you bring it in, it sounds like you need to adjust the gain (instead of the EQ). So I may be misunderstanding the question.
Also, when you bring the incoming song in to full volume, are all the EQs straight up (in the 12 o'clock position)?
Passionate DJ yes they’re all at 12 o clock when I bring in the tracks. I’m mixing with vinyl... just learning
Funny thing is, the thing I noticed about this mixer was that the volume was too *low* on a lot of vinyl.
Does the track overall sound too loud? Or is it a "piece" of the sound (such as the bass) which is exaggerated?
Also, what kind of turntables and are you plugged into phono or line inputs?
Passionate DJ I’ve got technics 1200. Should the knobs be at 12 o clock, when I bring a track in
Hello, thank you for your review. I've bought a 23C a couple of days ago and works perfectly but when I use it with Mixvibes running on my laptop in order to record my sets (2x technics) I get a strong reverb noise coming out of channel 2 when I raise the volume. I've also noticed that the problem follows a certain logic that I can't understand when I rewire the cables on my Mixvibes settings page. Do you have any idea what it could be? Thanks
Turn the input gains down to the very bottom and managed this through the software
Question! With the 23c and the laptop, just that! Can I play live? Or I need another controller?
the cue activated on the VU meter marks the master signal or channel signal?
It's the master signal, unless you have a channel with the "CUE" switch on... then it meters that signal in addition to playing it through your headphones.
(So, if you have them both pressed, it shows you the pre-fader level of both signals combined.)
PassionateDJ if you hit the cue 1, then the VU meter marks the signal of the channel where we activate the cue 1. this is used to manage the gain of channel 1?
if we have the two cue activated signal VU meter is the combination of channel 1 and 2?
Can i use 2 turntables and the other 2 channels playing from the pc thru the soundcard and mix digital and analog simoultaneusly
I believe so. You can play all 4 channels simultaneously, they all have independent volume pots. Once I get my Torx screwdrivers I need to open mine up, I plan to experiment by doing just that, so I'll try to report back in a week or two!
@@jessimatic can you do it?
this is my question too - do you have an answer yet? Thanks
I was hoping to see A&H put out a 2 channel mixer with filters on both channels, reverse xfader switch, DVS compatible with Traktor, that doesn't look like a maxi pad. Shame on you A&H. Nice review though, thanks!
for traktor you must first mapping or only plug and play
There is no mapping because it's not a MIDI-enabled mixer. It has a built-in sound card, but you cannot map the controls to do things like control Traktor's internal EQs (for example).
Hope that helps!

PassionateDJ so this thing can't enable DVS in traktor?
Coen wildevos Sorry for the delay. No, unfortunately, the Xone:23C is not Traktor certified. You'd have to use an audio interface (like an Audio 6: amzn.to/1zAfds3). But if you're going to do that, you're better off getting the Xone:23 (base model, without the C) since you'd be wasting your money on the integrated audio interface.
Hope that helps!
PassionateDJ thanks buddy! i'll be saving money for that instead then. thanks for the reply!
