They are my favorite fish. The do get very aggressive when spawning. But if I have a 55 gallon tank they will take over one half and I can still have Oscars and firemouths, jacks, etc in the same aquarium as long as the know the boundary. I haven't had any fish in about 10 years but did for about 40 years.
Convict cichlids are the quintessential hardiest fish hands down. I’ve observed a tank full of the same convicts for 8 months in a pet store, no one was buying them because of their reputation. Every time I visited they were always healthy and lively.
One of my personal favorites in the aquarium hobby and they can hold their own anywhere, even with tankmates big enough to swallow them whole, keep up the good work, I'm looking to start my own channel soon 👍🙏
cool story! i got myself a old convict too. Hes been through alot but i think it might be his time soon. Gonna look at getting some marble convict soon.
I have one female convict with a group of skirted tetras, a Siamese algae eater,a bristle nose pleco and a shoal of corydoras. She actually does great with them. No aggression. Maybe I just got lucky? She’s a rescue. Had her about three years and she’s about 4 inches. Really colorful. I do have a well planted tank and they are well fed. Maybe that’s the difference but she’s beautiful. Have heard they breed worse than guppies though and get very aggressive while breeding. Don’t let that completely turn you off because they are beautiful fish with tons of personality.❤ wondering about lifespan in captivity. Is your boy still with ya?
Terrible idea. The dominant male will kill the others. Either keep a single male, a single female, or a pair. If you keep a pair then the pair will be the only thing you have in that tank as they'll kill everything else come breeding time.

Anyone paying attention to the things that looks like shooting stars?🤣🤣
Amazing set up 🐟🐟
Thank you!
Can you keep them with pleco
wow...6 years old
I had to take out my female convict in a 40g because the male convict was tearing her apart after they breed. So now he’s all by himself with a pleco.
At 3 year's mine was the size of my hand. Have 8 of them.
Awesome!
I wish mine were so nice to each other😂 they look very happy
He was only being nice to her because she was colored up and ready to breed.
I can't keep a fish longer than a year . Kudos to you .
Season and deep fry after?
How about keeping only a few males in a 50 gallon tank? Do fish get stressed when they don't have females?

I have a 2 year old 4 inch convict. How big is your male convict n do they get any bigger?
He is about 4 or 5 inches and will not get any bigger than that
Depends. I have seen convicts that were nearly 7" long, but that's extremely rare. I'd say most males average 5" and females are maybe 3.5".
My grandad had some that were over 13 years old sadly they passed away though
Honestly he’s tiny mine is at least twice that size and he’s like 6 months old lol
Its definitely larger than you think. Its just a matter of perspective and judgements for size
Maybe the video angle made him look small. He is a little over the size most websites say convicts will get
They do love flow so if I were you I would get the jabeo rw8
in put it on h mode
What size tank is that?
This is a 55g tank
how old is the female?
At the time of this video, she was probably less than a year old
