recently started to tie my skates in the 3rd method (bunny ears) and I found it gives me much better movement in the ankle whilst still remaining tight and locked in. glad I tried it as this gives me more confidence in the skate!
After dealing with lace bite for a while, I realized the only thing that causes it is poor fitting skates. You need to make sure that tendon that gets the lace bite is behind the eyelets. I think there is something called the pencil test that checks for this.

Correct I believe you are right with the pencil test. Going to a really good hockey shop to get them fitted before buy is absolutely key!
