In the "official" Nightwish biography, it is stated that the guys were all super happy with what they'd done for Oceanborn but at no time did anyone consider whether the songs fit within Tarja's vocal range (as it was then) or not and Tarja shed many tears recording them! She was still super young and in training at that time. In the 2007 version, she increases the challenge by singing the staccati part higher than on the record and she nails it. As Anne noted in the chat, the staccati section is supposed to echo the famous queen of the night aria from Mozart's magic flute. Staccati are hard to nail especially on a fast tempo. As for Marko, he first appeared on their 4th album Century Child. Oceanborn is the second album, followed by Wishmaster. You definitely should continue to check out old Nightwish. I am always amazed that they were this good this young. Tarja is undoubtedly a super gifted singer and she brought and brings something very unique.
And what are the odds that all these talented people are almost same age, live all in same small area, and they end up being in the same band, which is going to be a success. I would say that the odds are probably about the same than getting struck by lightning....three times per day...in a different locations.
@@NightwishArena I agree. It is a unique coincidence that in one small town of 10 thousand people, in one school, at one music teacher four talented guys studied, who later turned metal genre upside down.
She did live the complete version of the song with her band, and the video is in UA-cam. Back in the years they tour with this album, they used to do a short version of this song without the staccatto.
I'm typically a Floor fan with Nightwish. Having said that, I do appreciate her vocals in this song and how her vocals have changed over the years. She is definitely on fire in her solo career.
I started with Oceanborn and still the most valuable album for me. Macro came in for the fourth album "Century Child". Number 3. was "Wishmaster" and after the release they did that famous gig "From Wishes to Eternity" 2000 and performed material from all the three existing albums still with Sami.
Thanks a lot for this. 👏🏻 One of my favorite songs. Symphonic Power Metal. 🤘🏻And Tarja is just magical. In this Tarja reminds me of the Diva performing in the movie ‚The fifth Element‘.. 😄
Thanks for the reaction and thank you Erika for the request. I had the exact same request but you were faster 😅 Passion and the Opera is one of my favorite songs from the Oceanborn album and for me one of the most iconic Nightwish songs ever. This album is progressive and experimental, and everyone artistickly has kicked over the traces on it. I love it. English is not my language, so for decades I had no idea what Tarja was singing about. And when I finally looked up the lyrics , I thought: yes, Tuomas had wild thoughts in his youth 😆 But he is still poet and it is still my very favorite song. Tarja is incredible here. It is said that this song was very difficult for her. I love these old NW so much. There is perhaps only one live video for this song, dating back to Tarja's solo career many years ago.
There are live performance of this song when Tarja was in NW but they cut the end since it was so hard to sing. On her solo career Tarja sang the ending as well.... as you mentioned.
THANKS for TARJAWISH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Been watching her current ROCK MEETS CLASSIC tour !!!!!!!!!!! She has been on fire 🔥🔥🔥 Of course !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!☮☮💘💘💥💥
Thanks for the reaction! It's always fun to watch the reaction of the stacatto part xD No one really expects something like that in a metal song, I can't imagine how it was back in 1998. Fun fact: Tuomas took the inspiration from the Diva Dance (The Fifth Element movie, 1997) so he wanted Tarja to sing like that in that album. Also a question: where can I find the video of Elizabeth, The CHarismatic Voice, analyzing this song?? I could never find it, and I'm really curious about her thoughts on it.
The Charismatic Voice never did this song with Tarja. I searched for it, too. She did the song from the movie and some singers from talent shows. She reacted only to two songs with Tarja unfortunately..🙄 ‚The Phantom’ from End Of An Era and ‚Paradise‘ together with Within Temptation..
Yes I have brought up doing Tarja but she has not. Neither solo or with Nightwish. I can only guess why. Tarja changed her style of singing twice during her 9 years with the band . She finished her schooling. Keep in mind Tarja was either 18/19 when she co-founded NW, and did the demo of Angels Fall First in 1996. Then the label pushed it out as an album in 97. 2nd album is this one, oceanborn .next was the EP 4 track Over the hills and far away ( where Sleeping Sun is from) in 99. Then Wishmaster LP in 2000. December 29, 2000 is the Wishes to Eternity concert in the club in Tampere, Finland. Then Century Child with Marko. In 2002 And Tarja's last Once in 2004. The infamous final show was October 21, 2005. And the footage put on the DVD of the Once upon a dream tour's final night in Helsinki, Finland. In August 2006 the DVD of the show was put out as End of an Era. Now there are many concerts from the band and festivals uploaded especially to Tarja Turunen HD 's channel. The RMJ festival of 03 in Finland, lowlands in The Netherlands Summer 05, Download festival England 05 summer, Montreal December 2004 where Tarja was visibly Ill and had to sit through the end of the show. Also.Japan in 2005 is another full concert. You really don't lack for reaction material but how much is the same stuff at different nights and how much is sub standard , or repetition of other shows? And I tell you there is a 2011 Cirqe de Solei show where Tarja sang The Music of the Night from Phantom of the opera . A link to her reuploaded bts interview for What Lies Beneath's rerelease is posted in discord. Her 3rd album solo and 2nd rock album. It will be a double album CD/ heavyweight vinyl. Or find it on e.a.r. music 's channel.
@@HelMut3103 IKR! I loved it when Big Brain Singer and Maggie Reneé reacted to From Wishes clips and Tarja's B&Beat, they gave some great feedback and it's cool to know what they like or not since they're clasically trained singers too.
@@damian.ARG91 Yes. Big Brain Singer is doing great reactions to Tarja. 👍🏻 I don’t really like Maggie Renee. Her reactions are sometimes a litte bit weird. And in most reactions it seems she doesn‘t really appreciate Tarja.
@@HelMut3103 I agree with you entirely. Some of these reactors also take themselves a bit too seriously given their age and their lack of meaningful achievements in their fields. I do not understand why Elizabeth has not reacted more to Tarja. I recommended some songs some years ago. I watched her recent reaction to Dianne van Giesbergen because she was presented as a soprano and I'd never heard her before. I was left with an even greater appreciation for Tarja and wondered why she has not featured on TCV. Too bad big brain singer does not seem to do much reacting these days and Angel Azzara also seems to have stopped reacting. I would have liked to her her take on things. Peter Barber might be a good one also.
ALL hale the REAL TRUE QUEEN 👑 of NIGHTWISH and of ALL FEMALE SYMPHONIC METAL SINGERS!!!, the very beautiful looking and very unique voice of the enchanting TARJA!!! 😀👍👍🤘
Whole album in general and this song in particular was incredibly difficult for Tarja. It was an experience Tarja would later curse. "Those songs were bloody difficult! Sometimes I would just fall to the floor from exhaustion with tears in my eyes and yell at the guys. Tuomas was a real bastard, he would just tell me to sing or cry but sing anyway. They didn't get the point at all, they didn't realize that there were places just too high or low. I just didn't have the voice to sing them! The guys were demanding the impossible from me. It was an insoluble equation, I was screaming: "Don't you assholes realize that it just can't be done! Sing it if you think you can!" Tuomas was embarrassed by the way they commanded Tarja. "We were just ordering her to sing," Tuomas confirmed. "I admit it was rude. The vocal parts were too high, as I didn't appreciate the songs from her point of view at all. The chorus in 'Stargazers' sounds so high that Tarja still can't sing it, let alone at that time." Ultimately, Tero had to trick Tarja into finally recording the vocals. "We managed to record the end of 'Passion of The Opera' just by telling Tarja to sing as well as she could - it wouldn't go on the tape," Tero recalls. "You know, 'Why don't you just try.' And of course that's what went into the album."
Sami Vanska on bass! What Tuomas said : "It's a pretty stuffed album, but I also think it's one of our best because you can hear the excitement of trying all these new things. It seems strange that this became a breakthrough album, because back at the time the music was so funny. It was really operatic, and when you look at the pictures, they look pretty horrific."

Very nice!
She does has a live performance, spectacular as well
Original and the best Nightwish ! Tarja the gueen !
Argh, damn you premiere teaser, you always get me 😂
First Era was the best one, they really were a Symphonic/ sometimes operetic metal band. Now it sounds more like a celtic folkmusic band.
Finally!, finally someone checked this song here, big THX from Prague to Canada👍

I agree! This is powerful ❤
😊
Tarja did this song live in her solo carrier 😊
Early Nightwish was more power metal, under the influence of Stratovarius!
It also had folk themes and surprisingly heavy parts. The lyrics were better in my opinion, more wordplays and more daring subjects.
