I have to thank you ladies for introducing me to this band. Their stage performances are more like a symphony than a mere concert. I'll certainly look out for their version of Phantom of the Opera. Seen the stage show twice Sarah Brightman (English vocalist and actress) was enchanting in the role.
Unpopular opinion: this is the most deep performance of this song. The background of the moment (the literal end of Tarja era on Nightwish) plus Tuomas crying reaction at the beginning of the song, many emotions were told withoud words.
From the same concert, your next dose of Tarja could be either Phantom of the Opera or Wish I had an Angel. Or perhaps Wishmaster. This era of Nightwish is that of exploration in sound... there was no extensive road map for symphonic metal at that time Spoiler for Lulu : Tarja's outfit is the same for Phantom, but she has a different one for the other two.
Hello, NW Army Italian Division reporting. This was Tarja's last concert with Nightwish and at the end of this show the other band members gave Tarja the famous letter excluding her from the group. If you noticed at the beginning of the song Tuomas was visibly moved. The tour was titled "The End Of An Era" and with Tarja's dismissal an Era of Nightwish was truly over.
Y'all should watch their performance of Phantom of the Opera from that same concert. Really get a good display of Marko's powerful voice in the duet with Tarja.

This was the last concert of the tour and Tarja was fired immediately afterwards due to artistic and personal differences. Tarja only sang classically with Nightwish and thus established opera singing in metal. Floor later sings it with her typical mix of chest and head voice. Like many songs, Anette killed it live because she gives the songs a jazzy tone. Tarja is also successful solo today: Tarja "Undertaker" (Live in Milan) - from "Act II", OUT NOW!

yes . Well that drama is water under the bridge. I will say that Tarja and Marko are the best singing partners they were ever paired with. Each strong enough to let the other go all out without fear of being over-shadowed or made to look lesser than. They both have that chemistry and singing together again that bond of trust is deeper then ever. It was Marko who was 1st to apologize. Xmas 2017 Finnish tv concert. Reports of much hugging and many tears. 😂 18 years after this night was the 1st time they sang Phantom of the Opera together. NW never did it again supposedly because Tuomas grew to hate it. This is one of the Songs that you can compare Tarja and Floor Voices, Some experts use the terms light and dark + cool and warm, They would class "Tarja" as Warmer and Darker to "Floor's" Cooler and Lighter Tone. To Me they are Both Very High Talented Vocalists (both True Artists of the Craft)Tarja's power comes the projected resonance developed in vocal training, Then Comes Floor with Big Range and Raw Power. They Bring their unique attributes to "Tuomas's Music Writing", Marco always brings his High Talent to the Show blending and diverging with both Tarja and Floor while playing base. Floor and Tarja have a Friendly Relationship and have performed together. I do not like to rate them to determine the better, but to enjoy the differences they are and what they bring to NightWish and its evolution. Everdream with the first singer, "Tarr-yah", "End of an Era". All the men knew it was the end for Tarja, and possibly the band, they had all signed the dreaded letter, to be opened later... Tuomas almost crying at the begining, hands to his face. What was that bizarre bending over backwards whilst still playing? Emppu hopping across the stage. Marko yelling with real anguish. Even Jukka, on drums, was leaning over backwards at one point? Tarja with amazing yellow outfit and microphone. That concert has been remastered and restored (from 2005).
Nightwish and Tarja together really was something else ❣ They were great then and great after, but the combination of her voice and the (heavy) instruments just had this spark for me. If this is the first live video you've done with Tarja, you probably haven't seen anything from their first recorded concert DVD, From Wishes to Eternity? They're all SO young there (about 23 years old) and it's a really great concert!! Tarja has a very unique voice and after leaving Nightwish she began a solo music career that's doing quite well. Her operatic voice is quite unique but if you want to hear her full range you need to listen to Planet Hell. She goes full out in that song.
There are some fan recorded concert videos of Floor performing Over the Hills with Tarja at one of Tarja's concerts. Definitely fun! Also, from 2022 I think, Marko showed up at a Tarja concert and they did Phantom together.

Many people talk of Tarja leaving Nightwish but I thought I'd let you know Marko also left the band in 2020 which nearly caused the band to end. They're hanging on by threads at this point. I wouldn't be surprised if Nightwish breaks up fully in a few years with all the drama around it. Also Marko and Tarja did a collab together after Marko left so I don't think those two are on bad terms at all, which some had speculated. Song is called Left On Mars for anyone curious.
Marko and Tarja are friends these days. They have spent time together in the last year or two rebuilding their friendship after Marko got "back on his feet" in/ is in better mental health to interact with people again. They did have a period of no communication between Tarja's firing in 2005 till they met in 2017 and reconciled/ talked through their past then already. They did a South American tour together earlier this year (2024). They will also do shows/festivals together this summer and a European tour this fall called (funnily enough) Living the Dream Together.

Ladies... please don't be put off by the negative comments by many. All 3 singers are different in their own way and we are grateful for them. After all would we like every song and singer to be pop music standard? I think not, the world is a far better place with metal singers.
'Ever dream' came off a rather dark Nightwish album in 2002 - 'Century Child'... A lot of those songs were lyrically bleak because Tuomas was struggling w/ the success and pressures of Nightwish... he felt like he was making music just for the industry to sell records, rather than expressing himself freely... Tuomas said he seriously considered disbanding Nightwish after 2002 and they barely toured for the album. Thankfully, Tuomas was inspired to write again and Nightwish returned in 2004 w/ 'Once'... Sadly, it was the last record to feature Tarja Turunen on vocals - she was fired in '05 after this final homecoming show in Helsinki, Finland.
The outfit and microphone were available in other colors and she still uses the microphones today. Back then, Nightwish had made it to mainstream radio. Since then, sales have declined. In Google searches I see a generally lower search for rock/metal bands and also for Nightwish. Bands like Metallica have also been selling fewer albums since then and are less sought after. However, according to studies, the market share of the genre has remained the same. There may be more bands today.
It's very difficult to compare sales from 25 years ago and now.1) There is much more downloading going on now. 2) It's not very clear if the figures are still up to date. 3) there is not much known about the sales of the dvd/blu-ray recordings. I think they probably sold a lot of the older dvd's the last 5 years.
@@strabel803 Streaming has killed record sales. But Google Trends shows the general interest in a band and that's where everyone has problems. DVDs, like live albums, sell less.
You noticed the emotional Tuomas there, might have been that he (the whole band except Tarja) knew that this us the last concert with her, she got booted from the band prety much directly after this concert.

Nowadays, Tarja's voice is even better! She has her solo career (that is very vast). Floor actually sings the high notes like Tarja sings them on the Century Child album. If you can't hear the difference, you need some solfege practice.

Original sound and voice of Nightwish, all these popular songs Tuomas wrote for her voice and he said in an interview that "Tarja is the best interpreter of my music and feelings" you dont hear love songs written now as when it was written in Tarja's era, besides there were many signs in documentary and body language says it all that there was some kind of love story and feelings, considering they both were in the same music class and from same small town when they were young. The best songs are written inclding "Ghost love Score" are either when your in love or hurt. Tarja is amazing live, this whole *End of an Era* concet and *From Wishes to Eternity* concet are amazing. Tarja was very popular with the fans and had a great voice . It may not not be popular, but for me Floor is more a people person, which I can relate too. Tarja to me is much more of a deva. That’s weird. If because when Tarja was in the band she always left room for the other band members to shine. I mean, she’ll Go and stand back to let Marko and Emppu get the spotlight, leave the stage, etc. With Floor, it is all about her. The camera is on her 90% of the time, she sings over Marko’s and the bands solos, she never stands back to let anyone else but herself shine. It seems to me, people just say dumb s*** that doesn’t even make sense. All you have to do is pay a little bit of attention.
Tarja being a "diva" was utter bullshit. Tarja never once tried to be the centre of attention during instrumental parts of songs like Floor is often guilty of. This "ego" shite only surfaced because Tumoas was bitter that the girl he'd been creeping over for years wasn't interested in him.
You see Tuomas with his head in his hands. He is in absolute emotional agony, knowing that after this concert he will hand Tarja the letter firing her. On the DVD of this concert there's a behind the scenes doc about the day of this show and it is incredibly loaded and uncomfortable if you really know the story. Tuomas is completely checked out of everything, just staring into the middle distance and smoking. The other guys in the band force smiles the whole time, and most tellingly of all, you see Tarja's sketchy manager/husband Marcello putting himself physically between her and the band the whole time.
It's always the same, when the main protagonist of an original cast is leaving. The shockwaves, after Tarja's dismissal in 2005, had even prompted the Prime Minister of Finnland, to make a statement. For quite a few fans, Nightwish with Anette Olzon was not more their beloved group. But it seemed more to be an anticipation of Tarja's proposed termination after their forecoming album as announced by her managing husband, who had the false idea, that Tarja would continue as a superstar and would make more money as a solo artist. But he totally neglected that the bottleneck in music business is always on the composer's side as there are far more talented singers than composers. Loosing Tuomas, who wrote tailor-made songs for Tarja, ought to be not an easy task. But the problem between them was far deeper. Since the one year younger Tarja Turunen first entered the home of that shy, introvert dreamer, named Tuomas Holopainen, to take music lessons from his grandma, Tuomas eventually developed a crush on Tarja. It seems that Tuomas never got out Tarja's "friend zone" to become her boy-friend. Things became even more complicated, when Tarja met her husband in 2000, whom she married in 2003. Incidents that obviously totally disillusioned Tuomas. The lyrics of his songs, who were full of innuendo's, that almost drove Tarja crazy, changed alot, concluding in his hymn for unrequited love, called "Ghost" Love-score: "We used to swim the same moonlight waters...a siren from the sea (besides musician Tuomas dreamed to become a marine biologist) came to me...sing my songs MY longings...forgive the adoring beast..etc." Other songs like "The Beauty and the beast", "Ever dream", "She's my sin" doesn't need to be explained. Also "Devil and the Deep Dark Ccean" about forced love, an evil thing, therefore devilish) or "Slaying the Dreamer" , "Dead Boy's Poem" (his inner child): "...I wish I wouldn't feel for You anymore" for only a few to name, speak for themselves. There's a photo montage from Dany Ela for the Nightwish song "Two for Tragedy" on UA-cam, that is telling the same story. So it is no incident, that Tuomas first needed to overcome his broken heart and bury he feelings once and for all in "The Poet and the Pendulum" in order to fall in love again. In 2015 he married a classical singer, whom he first met in 2009. He also started a side project with her and with Troy, called "Auri". It's not without a certain irony that these are the kind of songs he intended to do with Nightwish, but couldn't, because of Tarja's strong, voluminous voice... Along with AURI, Troy took a more prominent role as musical advisor, which Marko have had before. A hidden reason, why Marko felt not enough validated at their last albums. By the way, the most angry song, Tuomas was able to write, called "Master Passion Greed" was dedicated to Tarja's husband, who was neither a shy nor a humble character and rather the opposite of Tuomas himself. More Nightwish history: After finishing school Tuomas, along with Emppu, invited his crush Tarja, to be part of his own music-project, called "Nightwish". Their very first gigs in 1996, after recording a demo tape, saw them still supported by their common music teacher on drums and the cantorist from their local church on keyboards. After achieving their first record contract, they hired two local musicians for their upcoming tour through Finnland: Jukka Nevalainen (1997-2014) on drums and Samppa Hirvonen (1997) on bass. Unfortunately Samppa had already signed up with the military, so he needed to quit after their first tour, which he later regreted deeply. Consider, that Samppa has later proved his vocal prowess as singing bass guitarist in the band, he joined after his contract with the military had expired! So, between 1998 and 2001, Sami Vänska, a seemingly lesser passionate bassist, joined Nightwish, before Tuomas met Marko Hietala on the Nightwish tour in 2000. Marko was playing bass guitar for their support band !!! Same happened to Floor Jansen and "After Forever" in 2003 !! That's why I think that Floor inspired Tuomas' to the "End of an Era" (Tarja's) album title as he realizied he could continue without their figurehead. Because the faithful Floor was still happily bond with Nightwish now friendly band, she joined at the age of 16, Nightwish didn't want to entice Floor directly, but came up with the idea, to initiate a public employment ad for Tarja's job, which took much longer than expected. It is said that they received about 2000 applications, but...the ONE, Tuomas was hoping for, was missing. Only a sister (Irene) applied for the job, which let to rumors that Ms. Jansen had already applied whatsoever. So they decided for the Swedish singer Anette Olzon in 2007. Anette did an album that was still heavily influenced by Tarja's dismissal (Dark Passion Play) and their extensive world tour, before being replaced during her second album tour (Imaginerium). When Anette informed the band about her pregnancy, thus urging to postpone the second part of their ongoing world tour and with "After Forever" already disbanded in 2009, there was no holding back for Tuomas, with whom he would like to complete their world tour. There was only one person to call and only one question to ask...the documentation can be found on UA-cam: "Please learn the setlist in 48 hours"

They Bring their unique attributes to "Tuomas's Music Writing", Marco always brings his High Talent to the Show blending and diverging with both Tarja and Floor while playing base. Floor and Tarja have a Friendly Relationship and have performed together. I do not like to rate them to determine the better, but to enjoy the differences they are and what they bring to NightWish and its evolution. Great Job Ladies, Enjoy "The Journey" you Have Started and May "Your Channel" Prosper to the Future.

Nightwish and Tarja together really was something else ❣ They were great then and great after, but the combination of her voice and the (heavy) instruments just had this spark for me.
If this is the first live video you've done with Tarja, you probably haven't seen anything from their first recorded concert DVD, From Wishes to Eternity? They're all SO young there (about 23 years old) and it's a really great concert!!

Tarja has a very unique voice and after leaving Nightwish she began a solo music career that's doing quite well. Her operatic voice is quite unique but if you want to hear her full range you need to listen to Planet Hell. She goes full out in that song.
There are some fan recorded concert videos of Floor performing Over the Hills with Tarja at one of Tarja's concerts. Definitely fun! Also, from 2022 I think, Marko showed up at a Tarja concert and they did Phantom together.

Many people talk of Tarja leaving Nightwish but I thought I'd let you know Marko also left the band in 2020 which nearly caused the band to end. They're hanging on by threads at this point. I wouldn't be surprised if Nightwish breaks up fully in a few years with all the drama around it.
Also Marko and Tarja did a collab together after Marko left so I don't think those two are on bad terms at all, which some had speculated. Song is called Left On Mars for anyone curious.
Marko and Tarja are friends these days. They have spent time together in the last year or two rebuilding their friendship after Marko got "back on his feet" in/ is in better mental health to interact with people again. They did have a period of no communication between Tarja's firing in 2005 till they met in 2017 and reconciled/ talked through their past then already.
They did a South American tour together earlier this year (2024). They will also do shows/festivals together this summer and a European tour this fall called (funnily enough) Living the Dream Together.

Ladies... please don't be put off by the negative comments by many. All 3 singers are different in their own way and we are grateful for them. After all would we like every song and singer to be pop music standard? I think not, the world is a far better place with metal singers.
'Ever dream' came off a rather dark Nightwish album in 2002 - 'Century Child'... A lot of those songs were lyrically bleak because Tuomas was struggling w/ the success and pressures of Nightwish... he felt like he was making music just for the industry to sell records, rather than expressing himself freely... Tuomas said he seriously considered disbanding Nightwish after 2002 and they barely toured for the album.
Thankfully, Tuomas was inspired to write again and Nightwish returned in 2004 w/ 'Once'... Sadly, it was the last record to feature Tarja Turunen on vocals - she was fired in '05 after this final homecoming show in Helsinki, Finland.

Back then, Nightwish had made it to mainstream radio. Since then, sales have declined. In Google searches I see a generally lower search for rock/metal bands and also for Nightwish. Bands like Metallica have also been selling fewer albums since then and are less sought after. However, according to studies, the market share of the genre has remained the same. There may be more bands today.
It's very difficult to compare sales from 25 years ago and now.1) There is much more downloading going on now. 2) It's not very clear if the figures are still up to date. 3) there is not much known about the sales of the dvd/blu-ray recordings.
I think they probably sold a lot of the older dvd's the last 5 years.
@@strabel803 Streaming has killed record sales. But Google Trends shows the general interest in a band and that's where everyone has problems. DVDs, like live albums, sell less.

Original sound and voice of Nightwish, all these popular songs Tuomas wrote for her voice and he said in an interview that "Tarja is the best interpreter of my music and feelings" you dont hear love songs written now as when it was written in Tarja's era, besides there were many signs in documentary and body language says it all that there was some kind of love story and feelings, considering they both were in the same music class and from same small town when they were young. The best songs are written inclding "Ghost love Score" are either when your in love or hurt. Tarja is amazing live, this whole *End of an Era* concet and *From Wishes to Eternity* concet are amazing. Tarja was very popular with the fans and had a great voice . It may not not be popular, but for me Floor is more a people person, which I can relate too. Tarja to me is much more of a deva. You see Tuomas with his head in his hands. He is in absolute emotional agony, knowing that after this concert he will hand Tarja the letter firing her.
On the DVD of this concert there's a behind the scenes doc about the day of this show and it is incredibly loaded and uncomfortable if you really know the story. Tuomas is completely checked out of everything, just staring into the middle distance and smoking.
The other guys in the band force smiles the whole time, and most tellingly of all, you see Tarja's sketchy manager/husband Marcello putting himself physically between her and the band the whole time.

It's always the same, when the main protagonist of an original cast is leaving. The shockwaves, after Tarja's dismissal in 2005, had even prompted the Prime Minister of Finnland, to make a statement. For quite a few fans, Nightwish with Anette Olzon was not more their beloved group.
But it seemed more to be an anticipation of Tarja's proposed termination after their forecoming album as announced by her managing husband, who had the false idea, that Tarja would continue as a superstar and would make more money as a solo artist. But he totally neglected that the bottleneck in music business is always on the composer's side as there are far more talented singers than composers. Loosing Tuomas, who wrote tailor-made songs for Tarja, ought to be not an easy task.
But the problem between them was far deeper. Since the one year younger Tarja Turunen first entered the home of that shy, introvert dreamer, named Tuomas Holopainen, to take music lessons from his grandma, Tuomas eventually developed a crush on Tarja. It seems that Tuomas never got out Tarja's "friend zone" to become her boy-friend. Things became even more complicated, when Tarja met her husband in 2000, whom she married in 2003. Incidents that obviously totally disillusioned Tuomas. The lyrics of his songs, who were full of innuendo's, that almost drove Tarja crazy, changed alot, concluding in his hymn for unrequited love, called "Ghost" Love-score: "We used to swim the same moonlight waters...a siren from the sea (besides musician Tuomas dreamed to become a marine biologist) came to me...sing my songs MY longings...forgive the adoring beast..etc." Other songs like "The Beauty and the beast", "Ever dream", "She's my sin" doesn't need to be explained. Also "Devil and the Deep Dark Ccean" about forced love, an evil thing, therefore devilish) or "Slaying the Dreamer" , "Dead Boy's Poem" (his inner child): "...I wish I wouldn't feel for You anymore" for only a few to name, speak for themselves.
There's a photo montage from Dany Ela for the Nightwish song "Two for Tragedy" on UA-cam, that is telling the same story. So it is no incident, that Tuomas first needed to overcome his broken heart and bury he feelings once and for all in "The Poet and the Pendulum" in order to fall in love again. In 2015 he married a classical singer, whom he first met in 2009. He also started a side project with her and with Troy, called "Auri". It's not without a certain irony that these are the kind of songs he intended to do with Nightwish, but couldn't, because of Tarja's strong, voluminous voice...
Along with AURI, Troy took a more prominent role as musical advisor, which Marko have had before. A hidden reason, why Marko felt not enough validated at their last albums. By the way, the most angry song, Tuomas was able to write, called "Master Passion Greed" was dedicated to Tarja's husband, who was neither a shy nor a humble character and rather the opposite of Tuomas himself.
More Nightwish history: After finishing school Tuomas, along with Emppu, invited his crush Tarja, to be part of his own music-project, called "Nightwish". Their very first gigs in 1996, after recording a demo tape, saw them still supported by their common music teacher on drums and the cantorist from their local church on keyboards. After achieving their first record contract, they hired two local musicians for their upcoming tour through Finnland: Jukka Nevalainen (1997-2014) on drums and Samppa Hirvonen (1997) on bass. Unfortunately Samppa had already signed up with the military, so he needed to quit after their first tour, which he later regreted deeply. Consider, that Samppa has later proved his vocal prowess as singing bass guitarist in the band, he joined after his contract with the military had expired! So, between 1998 and 2001, Sami Vänska, a seemingly lesser passionate bassist, joined Nightwish, before Tuomas met Marko Hietala on the Nightwish tour in 2000. Marko was playing bass guitar for their support band !!! Same happened to Floor Jansen and "After Forever" in 2003 !! That's why I think that Floor inspired Tuomas' to the "End of an Era" (Tarja's) album title as he realizied he could continue without their figurehead. Because the faithful Floor was still happily bond with Nightwish now friendly band, she joined at the age of 16, Nightwish didn't want to entice Floor directly, but came up with the idea, to initiate a public employment ad for Tarja's job, which took much longer than expected. It is said that they received about 2000 applications, but...the ONE, Tuomas was hoping for, was missing. Only a sister (Irene) applied for the job, which let to rumors that Ms. Jansen had already applied whatsoever. So they decided for the Swedish singer Anette Olzon in 2007. Anette did an album that was still heavily influenced by Tarja's dismissal (Dark Passion Play) and their extensive world tour, before being replaced during her second album tour (Imaginerium). When Anette informed the band about her pregnancy, thus urging to postpone the second part of their ongoing world tour and with "After Forever" already disbanded in 2009, there was no holding back for Tuomas, with whom he would like to complete their world tour. There was only one person to call and only one question to ask...the documentation can be found on UA-cam: "Please learn the setlist in 48 hours"
