3 musicians performing an Arabic song in a synagogue in the Carnatic style should provoke curiosity, interest, musical criticism even. But we must examine any anger, hatred and strongly negative emotions, lest they arise from bigotry and prejudice. I respect these three for this project. Thank you for this music, and for provoking introspection in us all.

@@kaps8083 how do you know explain the nottuswaram by Dikshithar? Clearly he has done great wrong by taking singing Western music in a carnatic context. Or better yet, how about violins? It is a completely foreign thing to carnatic music. Shouldn't carnatic musicians just stick to instruments and techniques described in the vedas? Let me give you another example. I'll give you one more thing to wrap your brain around. Ever heard about Javalis? Most of them have nothing to do with Bhakthi. Why was it never banned? Didn't Hindus from the previous era feel the same way about all carnatic music being vehicles for Bhakthi?
Do you see the hole in your argument? Music is for everyone. TMK is not trying to convert anyone. I am not a Hindu but I have listened to countless hours of carnatic music. It is because I love music and I appreciate art. No one thought it was strange until a few years ago. Now I can't listen to carnatic music or talk about it without someone accusing me of being a culture vulture.

    To all the haters:
    1. The costume and setting has nothing to do with ISLAM. This is a Jewish costume, and the stage is set in a Jewish synagogue. Judaism and Islam, for your information, are literally enemies. If this was a gig to appease muslims, choosing a Jew outfit is the least sensible thing to do that.
    2. Please stop asking "why only Hindus are secular". We all know the answer- because Hinduism is a beautiful way of life. It embraces the good in everything and gives people freedom to think. Hindus see every religion a way to attain spiritual height. Hinduism don't teach hate as much as other religions do ( Please don't confuse Hinduthwa with Hinduism, Hinduthwa is a politically motivated, hate filled, fascist ideology)
    3. Ananthabhairavi is a ragam. A ragam could be used to sing various songs. Even if I sing only "ta raa raa raa ta raa raa raa" for 17 minutes in this tone, that is still ananthabhairavi. Listen to the music first, then to the lyrics.
    4. Music has always been innovative. Indian music, being the essence of various cultures, have always been innovative. This is also a humble attempt at that.
    5. Releasing this video on Christmas eve sends a message. Embrace the music of every religion. Spread love, not hate😘

So, I suggest you get your heads out of wherever it is stuck and appreciate TMK in his effort to bring religions together for better understanding of each other for peace and harmony. One thing the "self-declared" promoters of "universality or peace" do not understand is that the Hindu religion and its proponents have never had any ill-feeling against others. Remember singing along KJ Yesudas when he sang "enna solli devan" or "yeh badi maasha allah". There were no comments against him when he did that. That was done out of respect and passion.
The comments now are due to the fact that what he is doing is drama. Some are immersed in the acting and others who can see the acting call it foul.

@@vijayakumarsrinivasan6102 I'd like you to understand that bhakti isn't restricted to just Brahmanism. The word itself means devotion to a divine force. That is the same regardless of religion. And as for all these 'purists' who say that TMK is corrupting Carnatic music, it's your savarna attitude that is being spewed. The only reason carnatic music was shackled was because the upper castes had an iron grip on it - being restricted to all these sangeetha sabhas has hurt carnatic music immensely. The reason Hindustani is so popular is because it was taken to the masses and used in a variety of ways. TMK is trying to do so the same with Carnatic music by taking it to new pastures. If you don't like it please don't bother to listen. No one here is stuffing things down your throat. Let Carnatic music be liberated.

All these classical art forms (carnatic, hindustani and western classical) are very difficult to master and need a lot of patience and practice. Tell me few hundred hindustani classical performers or Western performers who came from the masses - Answer is only a handful. The same handful can be shown in carnatic music as well. The truth is that Indian Muslims, especially Sufis, have a long history of intermingling with Hindus. Think of Abdul Karim Khan of the Kirana gharana, who married a Hindu lady, or the shehnai player Bismillah Khan going to Hindu temples to pray, or the bhajan "Man Tadpat Hari Darshan Ko Aaj" (lyricist: Muslim, music director: Muslim, singer: Muslim), or Bade Ghulam Ali Khan of Patiala gharana saying, "If one child in every home had been taught classical music, India would never have been partitioned." I grew up next door to a Muslim family, and they are quite literally as much of a family to me as my "real" family. These days it is Hindus who have become radical extremists, wanting to kill and drive out Muslims from India when it has been their home for a thousand years.

Im sure , TM Krishna has sticked to the principles and standards of carnatic music. And , with this composition , its made clear that a different language used or the theme used doesnt affect the integrity of a carnatic singer and the great art form.
The critics who have no clue about the crux of carnatic music , doesnt sound critic and are simply displaying their religious views , which surely does bring dishonor to the art form.
I personally appreciate TMK for his idea and the effort taken.

In long conversations on social media with my cousins, who are all TamBrahms, and in comments here, I have noticed how cultural memes influence or rather distract us from what is essential. In this case, it is his Jewish attire, but in our conversations, it was the "Veshti" vs. the "Lungi." I guess this proves Dawkins' theory. Anyhow the important message is the invocation of Bhakti with soulful rendition Ananda Bhairavi, with a message of peace. Surely the messenger cannot and should not detract us

What T M Krishna is doing is disfigurement and uprooting of Carnatic Music which is integrated with Bhakti associated with the sacred geography Bharat and originated from the Santana Dharma scriptures.
