It always fascinates me how the French treat other people's property with respect. No vandalism, just natural decay.⏳️🥀 I've said it many times, but you guys are the best. It is a real privilege to watch your videos. No matter how bad a day I had, they heal the soul. ❤

Another adventure into a French castle. So many treasures left behind. The pictures. Why would you leave family memories behind? This is a real time capsule. So many unique antiques. Give the place a good dusting, and rearrange the furniture, and it could be livable. Thank You, Lesley and Danny for your patience, and great filming. Your respect for the property shows in your narration, and careful examinations of the objects.

What you call "adventure" the law calls "trespassing".
Why you would go through others' family memories uninvited is the real question.

@@frontenac5083if a home has truly been abandoned with personal items still in the home, the memories of those that lived in the home have been abandoned too. If the home is owned by the family and just unoccupied, it may be a different story. But, IMO, if they are letting everything decay, the respect for those memories is already gone. Explorers can document it, so the items and possible memories are not. It’s being memorialized before it is gone. Perhaps one day, a grandchild or grandniece of someone who lived in these homes will come across it and understand their ancestors better.
I’m not saying I agree with trespassing. I just don’t think recording without destroying, moving, or removing items is inherently disrespectful. It’s basically like a paid tour of a historic home. There’s so many objects in this particular one that literal antiques being left to decay away-that to me is far more disrespectful, but it’s not up to explorers like this to remove these items. Many of these homes aren’t even owned anymore-they were intentionally abandoned, got stuck in probate issues, or those that could have inherited or passed it on couldn’t afford to maintain in. I live in VA and there’s a ton of homes like this on blocks with a ton of land, the person bought the land, but wants nothing to do with the historical buildings on the properties, so they just ignore them, let woods grow around them, and they slowly collapse in on themselves.

Again, a great video. The overhead light in the dining is made from a (never to be used again!) spinning wheel. Also the light in the old kitchen was recycled from an oxen yoke. I really like the way this family upcycled there un-useful items into something new and purposeful. That chair on the landing of the stairs was placed by window. Do you suppose that the family members may have used that to observe nature or the comings/goings of visitors? It was kinda strange to see the sewing machine in the parlour...can't imagine those kind of chores being done in a formal living room. You do such an excellent job documenting these place of interest. Thank you so much for keep all your viewers entertained, Leslie and Danny.

Hi Lesley and Danny, I have to say when you showed the picture of the chateau back in the day, to now, what a huge difference. It will always amaze me, on how this could happen. Over the years of following you, you have told us, due to taxes, money, whatever, is to why these beautiful homes become abandoned. However, it is still sad, especially when there are photographs left behind. I wonder what year the original wallpaper was put up, it looked in perfect condition. What a great find thanks guys. Hi Lesley, When you were looking at the bedroom with the long pictures on the bed (at 1:02:24), that had the photo on the bottom left corner, it looks like someone had broken out the glass and stole the war medal that was on the top right. There's only a shadow left of it. It Irks me when someone steals something precious like that.

It’s really not that uncommon. My husband runs an auction house and we clean out estates. The majority of the time it’s one of the children or relatives that received the home on passing and are not interested in keeping the house. Or we get called in by lawyers that working on the estate and any debts involved. There are certain things like pictures, war medals, and things like that that we will set aside and let any family members know that we have it. It is RARELY wanted.
Some antique furniture is damn impossible to sell unless in impeccable condition (like chairs and sofas.) Cabinets and stuff like that are more likely to sell, beds too, but honestly in my area you just aren’t going to get much. We’re in rural VA, and a LOT of people that inherited their Victorian parents homes are passing away, so the market is flooded with the stuff. Most young people just don’t want that kind of furniture. Heavy as heck, brown, etc. personally I love it, and it pains me a bit when someone who I know is going to paint it or convert it into something else wins it. But in an age where people move all the time, in and out of states, countries… furniture like that just becomes more of a burden. All the artwork here and African objects pains me to see.
That cabinet at 1:06:53 is absolutely GORGEOUS. I think that piece would actually fetch a pretty penny.
I have an 1890s organ in my dining room because I just couldn’t bare trashing it. It’s in GREAT condition, tons of carving. Sure it’s nothing super fancy, but it looks a million times better than stuff made today. I have a few other pieces too. I have a civil war (1860s) dresser upstairs, and another late 1890s kitchen hutch

Very cozy atmosphere. I love the hard lighting created in the dark small rooms by your camera light because you are closer to the objects which forms dark shadows on the walls. It adds to the eerie atmosphere. I remember Franks currency growing up in Belgium in the 1970's and 1980's. Yes that Islamic stone building is in Mecca but it is called the Kabbah. I also find the picture of the dark wolf like animal chained at the leg interesting. It looks like one of those supernatural red eye werewolves that many people report seeing. I also saw three of them in the 1990's. Those VHS tapes are like yesterday to me. More interesting is the earlier 20th century objects and pictures which I agree are likely to be the owners parents. It makes me wonder what his parents from that earlier time period would have made of the interracial marriage of their son with an African woman.

Ooh, three beds!, the boys’ room!, so cool and good that they shared the room to build a, at least kinda good, relationship.. 32:25

Hi Lesley & Danny, 😊 Wow, Abandoned 17th Century Castle in France!!
It was a Real Shame that Everything is Left to Decay!! The Village should come in & Save Everything!!
My Opinion is the Father had All the Paintings he did & Furniture from France & the son Patrick had the Chinese Things, &
the Mother was African & All the Stuff & Including the African Room was from the Mother!!
@ 8:06 on the Banister of the stairs was a Leopard Skin!!
@ 41:57 that thing was for Maps, Scriptures or Paintings!!
    @ 42:59 was a Helmet...maybe from the War!!
@ 45:52 this headpiece with Horns was from a Mountain Goat!!
    @ 46:04 Goat Hanger
@ 46:28 Largest Bee Hive, I Ever Seen!!
@ 105:29 Danny was Right it is a Fox!!
Now I Loved so Many Things in this Castle: Puffy Fish, Shells, Wall Paintings, Butterfly Pictures, Carved Chairs, Dressers, Dishes, Lights & Chandelier, Chinese Paper Umbrella on the Ceiling with Leaf Design & All the Embroidery Pictures!!
Thanks Lesley & Danny for the Absolutely Beautiful Castle Tour & for Both Your Info on It!!❤
Take Care & a Safe Trip to Your Next Journey, have a Wonderful Evening!! ❤ Love Barb from Central Illinois USA❣

Check out those beautiful green curtains and the white lace one in the middle! Love them!, and the kinda pointy curved ceilings in the other rooms! 23:46

I start to see your vid only from a few days ago, this is 17 Jan 2024, and i get really entertained. Yes true that one of the carpet is Mecca. Just info, For us as Muslims, we maynot put that as something to always step on, but usually we use that for rug for prayer, to do salat.

❤ I believe the man's daughter was the artist. Her name is Michelle Mourin and she lives Maine USA. I feel like the family left likely because they couldn't afford living there or hated living in a castle but meant to return or for the kids to return one day. I can't imagine living in a cold castle with a lack of modern conveniences and far from everything would be much fun. It's interesting to visit but I wouldn't want to live there. Not this day and age.

❤ I wonder if the open filled suitcase was more likely not yet unpacked. He wasn't leaving, he'd arrived but maybe did unpack right away.
