This was a good finale. I love how they really showed the effects of the war and it's not happy at all. Hahn and the warriors, the 41st division's whereabouts, the fall of Omashu. I hope they take their time with Season 2.

So many people complain about how Aang didn't learn waterbending at all in this season. On the other hand, what scenes from this season do you want to give up so that we can spend time with Aang learning waterbending when he won't actually be using it in a signigicant way at all in the season? My prediction is that we will have a short time skip into Season 2 where Katara and he have been training up his waterbending so that we can get to Toph and the beginning of his learning earthbending by the middle of season 2. Also, i think a chunk of early season 2 will be around Azula taking over the hunt for Aang and the Zuko Alone storyline so that as we move into Season 3, she is established as the #2 antagonist to Ozai and we prepare for Zuko to join Team Avatar and train Aang in firebending in time for the final battle.
The best part of this episode is Aang turning into Koi-Zilla and hits the Fire Nation like a one man wrecking crew, it's a satisfying revenge for what they did to Aang's kind the Air Nomads 100 years ago

They probably skipped Aang learning waterbending because it really doesn't play a part in the story up to now, and chances are Season 2 will have a big time jump. They mentioned changing the timeline, largely because they can't prevent the actors from aging. :)
My guess is that Season 2 will open a year or more later with Aang having learned waterbending and ready to find an earthbending master.
I was also thinking about why they didn't have Aang and Kitara in the secret tunnel, and have basically avoided Aang's feelings toward Kitara. It's probably because it would have been super weird having anything romantic between a 12 year old boy and a 16 year old girl, much less kissing. I suspect that they'll start hinting at Aang's feelings at the beginning of Season 2 since they'll be older, and would have spent a much longer time training together.
I wish they kept a bit of Aang learning waterbending, because it would have given him and Katara a bit more time to bond and build their friendship. It would have been nice to show more of Katara, Aang and Sokka spending time together.
I loved this series ❤ it's hard to appreciate anything if you start judging from the start.
The waterbenders yelling in panic that they can't bend was so chilling to me.
You can tell they spent so much on this episode and it was a visual treat. I'd rate the overall series like a C+. Definite room for improvement but many great scenes and generally entertaining overall. I think, hope, that Ang's lack of waterbending now will lead to Katara and Ang getting to know each other better in the next season as she trains him, placing the seeds for an eventual romance especially as they get a little older. I think not having the romance now makes sense as they are really young. In real life, boys at this age usually don't think of romance. Usually romance comes after a deep friendship is forged. Super sad we'll have to wait so many years for the next season, but eagerly waiting. Thank you for your amazing reactions!
The CGI and the detailed efforts put into the show are amazing! It honestly offers the best representation of the world brought to life. That was my favorite part of the show. The acting and writing will improve; we are hopeful for the next seasons. Thank you for watching with us! 🥹❤️

One thing i will say to defend this series so far is that in ATLA the animated version, season 1 is also the worst season of the 3 (not saying it's bad i still love it). But when people talk about their favourite season it is always 2 or 3. This is why i kinda knew it was gonna get hate from the start cause a lot of people dont even like s1
I love the rewrite of Paku still needing the extra push and the angle at which the women water benders advocate to be included. And the moment that boy called Katara master, so many emotions.
Still confused why they choose not to teach any waterbending. it felt intentional and I dont get it.
Zuko and Iroh are perfect, the actors and directors get them.
Kind of wish they kept the Zuko outreaching his hand to Zhao, scene because Zhao choose his fate, and Zuko showed compassion.
Yue's actress was perfect, still hate the wig. and I swear when momo got hurt, I did the My boy meme.
It was a good attempt, and can't wait to see you both watch the movie so you can see how low the bar was set.

I agree and felt almost exactly as you did. I'm going to give two ratings for the series. This finale was another mashup of episodes, but it was done well enough to create the overall feel to each narrative (Zhao and the hunting of Moon and Ocean Spirits along with Iroh, Zuko having another battle with Katara (and showing her progress versus an objective standard since she fought him earlier on Kyoshi Island), Aang fulfilling his duty as the Avatar, Yue and her significance, etc.) and most of all, it gave us a desire to want to see more if we aren't caught up in our personal criticism because it's not an exact, perfect reenactment of the original without CGI doing everything.
One criticism I have of long anime series is the "filler" episodes that do very little to add to the core storylines. I think we who watch long series all know what those are (Dragonball, Naruto, Bleach, etc. all have them). If I were to nitpick the original Nickelodeon series the way some of the harsh critics have this adaptation, I think it would look as if I hated the original as much as they "hate" this production. I'd hope they could give a little tolerance and like us, give an "old" story a fresh look, and see what they think in how these writers, directors, and actors did their best to adapt the themes and feel of the original to get a Season 2 since none of that was guaranteed by the agreement from Netflix.
It's not that I don't understand where the "haters" of the Netflix series are coming from, but I think people like that are finding ways to make themselves miserable when the final product of this could actually draw in a new set of fans who never saw or invested the time to complete the original Nickelodeon animated series.
Last thing - I have two ratings for the overall series:
- first, in comparison to the original, I'm very close to the two of you: 7.5 to 8.0 because the changes were sometimes good, but the changes also make me wonder how they're going to weave things back into some sort of palatable order for the next seasons, and I also believe there is room for improvement with the child actors. As you mentioned, a side thing is how the writers will accommodate the physical growth of all the child actors since I think all of them are pretty different in stature from 2018 & 2019 (and Aang's voice is post puberty at this point), and how they will possibly bend time to still make it all fit in the storyline.
- second, as a stand alone without previous knowledge of the Nickelodeon animated series, I'd rate it 8.0-8.5, maybe even a 9.0 because of well done special effects, storylines that could be followed and character development I'd want to see more of in the next season, and the overall relatability to things happening with our world right now (wars and conflicts which make us question whether the injury and loss of life involved in such things is worth it... the live action did that far better than the animation because it showed destruction, injury, and death which the kid's show didn't for good reason).
Anyway, great job again, and I'd look forward to your future reactions and feedback on this series.
Just an idea: release a single video compilation of all your season one reactions (I've seen a few channels do this), but, include short inserts of what you both thought after rewatching each episode along with a second watch overview of the season and what you're looking forward to and concerned about for Seasons 2 & 3. Not a request or demand, but I'd want to hear from you on that matter (and binge watch the entire thing along with you 🤣).

I appreciate your breakdown from both an original watcher’s perspective and from someone who didn’t watch the entire series. I think the addition of adult themes like war and death was handled really well. Showing the dark themes that the children’s show couldn’t tackle was always a valuable addition. @@MeeshDeeReacts I'm pretty sure there's other examples out there, but this was one of the most notable ones to me because it was over 3 hours long. I'm not sure if Michaela has special privileges to the animated version because she was a voice actor for them, but she reacted to each one and then compiled the reactions into Seasons. I think this may have been the one that came to mind when I suggested it to you.

I really enjoyed this show. I did my best to not be distracted by comparing it to the animation amd just accept it as a fresh thing.
I love that the series deals more with trauma, loss, moving forward, and consequences much more poignantly than a kids show is allowed to.
Specifically with Katara, I think her personality in this is really part of being constrained and protected her entire life by her family and community. Now as her bending has grown, she's progressively becming empowered and the pendulum might swing the other way where we see her more assertive and angry.
1:45 my guess is they wanted to have Katara teaching him in se2 and have the whole jealousy thing there instead of here in se1

As for rating, This was a 10 for me. Though I wasn’t a super fan of the cartoon so the changes don’t bother me. I enjoyed the cartoon overall but thought it was overrated. I was bored for almost all of book 1 until this last battle. Things got way better in book 2 when Toph shows up. Book 3 was great.

Such a great finale. Ken Leung absolutely killed that last scene of his rubbing everything in Zuko's face.
I think they were really trying to emphasize that it's not Aang anymore. He gave himself to the ocean spirit so it's really the ocean's rage in control killing all of those fire nation soldiers.
Overall, we enjoyed the series too and need to give it a closer 2nd rewatch! 😌🙏🏽

Well done ladies, I loved your reaction to the whole series. Overall I think the fact that you have watched the original and compared a lot to it took away from you enjoying it more than you did. I for instance hadn't watched the entire original show and thus didn't have 1/4 of the issues you had with it because of the inevitable comparison to the Animation. I do agree with you that the acting in many areas was very dubious and that some of the scenes lacked a bit of emotion. I hope for Toph, the actress is someone who uses Wing Chun or a Hakka style martial art. Those styles actually move the way she's been animated to move when fighting.

I think the Avatar being lost when he became one with the ocean spirit was to give higher payoff to Yue’s sacrifice + Aang’s control of the Avatar state at the end
Also figured they kept Aang from learning waterbending because they focused more on his attachment to Gyatso and building Katara up as someone Aang could trust and learn from
Katara becomes a master onve she displayed those ice disks. You are considered a master when you invent a "new move." Even if it was borrowed from the earth bender that did it earlier.

Hi! It's just a personal hypothesis, but I think that since they did not have the continuity of seasons 2 and 3 confirmed, that forced them to make many changes.
For example, not knowing how many years it would take to do everything, they couldn't give them the urgency of Sozin's Comet, and because they don't have that urgency Aang has no immediate need to learn how to waterbend. In addition, we must take into account the amount of time and money it must cost to make all those animations so that they look as real as possible (which would also explain why neither Momo nor Appa almost appear).
Let's hope that, by now having confirmation of the missing seasons, Netflix will provide them with a larger budget and, although it is less likely since all their series are 8 episodes per season, more episodes.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but when this show was announced the writers and everyone else involved were not sure if they were getting a season 2 from Netflix. After hearing this new I can see why they added some things from Book 2 into this. But now that we know we’re getting seasons 2 & 3, there is an opportunity for improvements.

Thank you so much for your amazing reactions. Not only did i throughly enjoy your ATLA LA, but i binged your ATLA Animated series and your channel has become my favorite. Though i tired to watch Korra, it never took hold of me like ATLA, so i didn't watch past season 1. So i am looking forward to watching the episodes blind with you both on patreon. As far as ATLA LA, well imo the animated series is one of the greatest 3 seasons of any show ever produced, So as i binged the LA series i was disappointed. It took watching it a second time and then rewatching with your reaction videos for me to understand that it didn't have to be exactly the same and that I should view it as a stand alone project. Now i enjoy most, not all, of the changes that were made. I do agree with you that they need to get feed back and go full force into seasons 2 & 3 as there is major things on the horizon. i believe they will be filming both 2 & 3 back to back so the kids don't age to fast for season 3. I really liked this climax, and I would give the whole thing a 7.5. It's just light years better than the movie. I thought Kiawenttio did much better these last two episodes - and especially this one. A lot of people complain about elements like the owl, and whether Azula should be in it, etc etc, but my biggest problems are with the written dialogue, and some clumsy direction. It just beats you over the head at times with themes. I know Mike DiMartino told the makers that the brand of Avatar was that you had to lean on your friends - much like you can't make a show like Avatar without leaning on your crew. But you can get that point across without Aang saying "I'm going to do it with my friends" over and over.
I do think it will get better now that they have worked out a lot of the technical details and can focus on the writing and performance.
Hey Avatar Meesh and Avatar Dee how it been. I hope you two day is going well "Happy Friday ". This was a great finale. Well done to the actors and actresses as well the writers, staff, and crew. I really enjoyed the fights between Northern Water Tribe vs. Zhao men, Katara vs. Zuko, Zuko vs. Zhao. I like the CGI of the Ocean Spirit. It looks awesome.
Zuko telling Iroh that Lu Ten would be proud of him and Iroh giving him a hug was a great moment. Momo getting hurt. As well as Yue sacrificing herself to being back balance after Zhao killed the moon spirit. In which I feel bad for Sokka for not being able to protect Yue.
I am happy that Aang took Monk Gyatso advice that he should let go of the past and look forward to the future.
We find out Ozai truth plan wasn't to take over the Northern Water Tribe but the City of Omashu with Azula and the Firenation reclaiming Omashu after the capture of Bumi. In which is a good way to end season 1.
My review on the live action Avatar the Last Airbender was pretty good. I really enjoyed how the actors and actresses actually look like the characters. I enjoy the bending fights. The locations were on point like the Airnation,Omashu, Water Tribe etc. I really enjoyed the backstories of Aang, Zuko and Iroh in which I will say Dallas Liu (Zuko) and Paul Sun-Hyung Lee (Iroh) was my favorites from the cast. As well Ken Leung as Zhao who was amazing.
My absolute favorite episode from season 1 is episode 6 Zuko backstory and after his men found out that Zuko sacrifice himself to keep them alive from being sacrifice from the Firenation and the way they showed their appreciation when he returned was an amazing scene.
I like that the Live action didn't try to mimic the animated series but decided to do it own thing while respecting the source material when it came to certain parts of the story.
My only complaint about this show is the actress who plays Katara needs work on her acting or the writers need to give her better material. But she can improve on that in second 2 and 3 that was announced. And the other I wished it was 10 episodes instead of 8. And i hope in season 2 &3 we can get 10 episodes instead of 8. I agree that this is like a 6.5-7/10 so far. Good, can get better for sure.
Though, I still think you really need to watch the cartoon first, I'm not sure how easily you can understand the characters or the world just from these 8 episodes. It really feels more like a decent live action representation of the cartoon, rather than something that could stand on its own.
Also, even though the acting was kinda weak from the main trio, i still ended up really liking them.. Idk, they seemed well cast to me & they fit their roles.. They just need more time.

❤ Thank you both for your very fair but still positive reactions to the live action! Our ratings and nitpicks are nearly identical. I love the emotional weight that got added to Aang merging with the ocean spirit and most of the changes with Yue (wig aside, lol.) This ep and ep 4 I think are tied for me on 2nd favorite, for entirely different reasons, so hard to compare. But 6 is still my absolute favorite as it is for most, except for my husband ironically, who said 8 was in fact his favorite.

I think Aang is just too stoic and serious, he just talks too much mumbo jumbo and a little expressionless, instead of showing a glimpse of his raw talent of picking up the elements easily. In my opinion, he should be more childish with his expressions too. And Katara just became a master like that? On the flip side, I liked what they did with the rest of the characters like Han, and Jao. Zuko and Iroh are doing a great job as well. I think I know what they're doing here. They're trying to choke us with the power of "friendship". I wouldn't be surprised if all four of them fight against Ozai together because they are "friends".🤣 I hope they show flaws in all the main characters in the next season.
We are getting season 2 & 3!! My favorite part about this episode was Koizilla and the fight between Zuko and Katara❤ overall 7.5/10 for me.
Koizilla was awesome! Loved the sound effects. The fight was also fire! We loved Zuko’s rage 🔥
I enjoyed the season as a whole. The only part plot-wise I wish they'd focus on more in the next seasons is the actual bending. Everyone just knows new moves without ever seeing them learn them. Aang literally learned nothing the entire season, never straying from airbending even for a second. I'd like to watch some progress being made instead of "oh, yeah, I know how to do "X" now."

6.9-10 and what is really funny about this is that i just watched an episode of an anime I really like, one of the characters was trying to create a script for a play out of one of her books. When the MC read the script, he said something along the lines of it wasn't bad but the weakest point was the characters. What she said made me laugh, because she said, she changed their personalities, to make them easier to act out, she wanted to make them easier to translate so she flattened them. It was about Translation and time. He said, I think you should present them the way that she originally wrote them.
I was like "Holy Crap, that's exactly what happened here!"
They changed the characters, especially the young ones to make them easier to translate. But, in doing that, they made them flat, unrelatable. My hope is that for seasons 2 and 3, everyone will have done enough growing, everyone will understand their roles in this much better to where they can say "Okay, we've moved past the point of having do dumb this down, lets really get into it."
Everywhere else you see these actors, they are their characters, in this case I think the writing did them a disservice of watering down their characters and their scenes for one reason or another.
It's a solid 7.5/10 for me. It was enjoyable to watch, has some really great moments in it, some interesting ideas, good casting for most characters with some stellar performances like Dallas Liu as Zuko, great VFX and costumes (that were just a bit too clean at times), and the sets were good, too. The weakest point is the writing for some characters and in some clunky dialogues, and that a few episodes had too much crammed in. But overall it worked for me and has a high potential for the next season. 🙂

YES!! KORRA! I love you ladies 💕I honestly want to know you guys' opinion on a theory of mines after watching the TLOK. So, by Netflix merging elements and scenes from later shows; there for, speeding up events leading up to the grand fight with Ozai, Netflix can have the space and opportunity to expand upon "THE GAP", which is the events and adventures between after Aang's battle with Ozai, and the events leading right up to The Legend of Korra. The cast is getting older, and it will definitely show in live action more than it ever did in the animation. It would make since. Also, this is where pulling elements from the books after the OG series can come in handy. This is what we need, to see Aang's adventures continue after Ozai. We've already seen ATLA, so of course if it's a "REMAKE", we're going to critic the shit out of it! However, as long as they stay true to the characters and the little lore that the books do provide us, Netflix can HIT IT BIG!! Providing us with new footage, new battles, and new adventures we haven't seen from the gang. Especially more Zuko, and Iroh moments regaining their honor as a nation, and definitely more of the Spirt World. Tell me what you guy's think about this theory, BUT ONLY AFTER you've watched the season finale of TLOK!!! LETS GOOOOO!!

Objectively I’d give it a 7 when telling someone. But personally I feel like it’s a 9. Katara’s character might have been undercooked but maybe they can put her back in the oven.

I think thise series deserve a 7/10. It is far from perfect and far from the cartoon, but I enjoyed. The weakest points were the characterization of some charcaters, so the writing. I HOPE this thing gets better in the next seasons

I think its a 7 out of 10 overall. There's some stuff that obviously needs fixed. Characterization is the biggest thing. But the world building is solid for an adaptation. Just work on katara a bit and give sokka his plots again. Thankfully Azula will be coming in as a menace next season so that'll make things better for the whole cast.
Iroh not singing 'Winter, Summer, and Fall' now thats criminal. They never mentioned the library in Season One. It looks like they will cut the Library, Desert, and Appa’s Lost Days episodes in Season Two.
1. Wan Shi Tong appears outside of his library.
2. Zhao learns about the moon spirit from the Fire Sages.
3. Ozai has a celestial calendar.

Wan shi tong could always come back - in Korra we learnt that he is capable of existing in BOTH the Spirit World and Natural world.
He was prob just visiting😂 They'll obviously see him again...they only introduced him for like a few minutes even so no biggie. He's still a mystery especially to newcomers

Same about the movie. I feel like it was a Studio issue, M Night was shackled. I'd like to think that he would do alot better had they allowed him to actually direct and write.
M night just wanted to do what he wanted to do with no real reasoning, with this show they wrote and filmed for 9 episodes but netflix got new editors to redit it down to 8 episodes, thats why the rumored summer 2023 release was delayed until 2024
