Before this video it was nearly impossible to close the bolt on a round in my mosin. Now it's almost flawless! Thank you so much for making this video!
Everyone wants to blame the cosmoline. I cleaned the hell out of mine the first day I had it with near boiling soapy water and all the cosmoline is gone! I never had any issue opening or closing until the round is fired, then the bolt refuses to open without beating on it. It's not cosmoline!
The problem why the bolt won't close on a spent shell case is because after firing a round the shell casing expands to a size larger than the non fired shell.
Yes, but it will not expand any bigger than the chamber. It should fit into that specific rifle's chamber but not necessarily fit another rifle because of tolerances between them.
My Mosin sticky bolt stumped two gunsmiths. I tried a half dozen DIY vids which did not bring success. Your solution worked! Thank you.

Pour solvent out of the bottle to use. Never dip brushes clean or dirty inside the solvent bottle because you will contaminate it. 👈
Brass brushes won't hurt rifling!😁

We just hammered our claw into place, and it functions buttery smooth now. Many thanks!
Nice video Melnic on adjusting the extractor and so informative. It's nice to give credit where credit is due.
Hammering the extractor helped alot. thanks!
Well done. Thank you for the good advice
Cosmoline also will gum up your extractor... Be surprised how much gunk can get in there ... or if not cleaned will bake on after shooting a bunch
I know this video is really old but will adjusting the extractor help with opening the gun up, as well as closing?
Yes.

Rick Emery I thought of that, too.
The case body expands but the rim doesn't. A properly functioning mosin will chamber a spent shell no problem.
@@DaDaDo661 Providing the case came from that specific rifle. A fired case may not fit another rifle due to different tolerances between them.
