T-30 Screwdriver
keith, I REALLY appreciate your time and effort putting this video together. My wife's 2002 celica has had broken lock for a couple of years now. got the part on amazon and was plug and play. only problem i had was getting upper actuator rod out of the door handle mechanism.. had t o pull it awfully hard, but eventually got it out. No way i would have even tried this without your video. With your help, though i knew where each screw/bolt was that really needed to come out. AWESOME description. Only other issue i had was i couldn't get the two screw caps back on the two screws at the front of the door panel.... not sure if i broke them somehow or what, but they woudn't 'stick' back in place. had to use a little dab of Goop glue to hold them back in place. Thanx again for your help. You saved me a BUNCH of time an frustration.
This video helped! I've had my 2000 Toyota Celica for about 2 years now and I've finally decided to get the actuators replaced. Now I have power doors! :) thanks!
Thank you guys for all your advices. Those actuators from eBay are just like original parts (plug and play). It took me about an hour for both sides. Thanks again for saving my time and money.
Do you have link to actuators ?
thanks for the help i was able to replace my driver and passenger door lock actuators for just $25
Just wanted to say THANKS, and your tutorial really helped me out. I have a 2000 GTS, and the hardest part was removing the last rods since you couldn't physically see what you were doing, and had to feel your way around it. I ordered the part from eBay and received it about three days later. Total time, from start to finish was a little over an hour
Nice job Thanks....Appreciate your video showing the inspection plug removal , making the rods easier to access and see.

Great help changing the lock actuator! Especially at 4:34, taking off that tape cover lets you see where the outside door link connects. FYI, today, 2019 you can buy the actuator on ebay or Amazon under $15! No need to further disassemble the actuator assembly to change the little electric motors inside for a cheap fix like some people have done.
Thanks for making this video, was a huge help. Just finished replacing passenger side on my 2000 gts, went smooth. I got a complete assembly from ebay seller "actuatorplus" for $70, so it was just a direct swap.
Thank you! 🙌🛠🪛👏🫶
Fixed!
Bought my actuator at ali express for 12 eur incl.transport
Just plug &play,no modifying needed
I just replaced mine, got an actuator from Amazon that said it will fit my Celica. So I didn't have to modify it. Putting the rods back at the end for the door handle and lock were tricky, especially for the door lock, since it's hard to see. However I was missing 2 of the 3 T30 flat head screws that hold the actuator on the end of the door. I have not been able to find any stores, hardware stores or websites, that sell them. but pretty sure the thread is metric M6. So I got some M6x20 flat head Allen hex screws. The head on the original T30 screws was wider but these still it. The length is probably closer to 18mm but 20mm worked.
Thanks, this was a great help. Used actuators are available on ebay. I got one for about $120.
Thank you so much for making this video, ready to order parts now!
After 11 years, I just replaced my passenger door lock actuator. I still can't find actuators for the Celica. So I matched it to a 2004 Scion xB, Interchange Part Numbers; 69110-52010 / 69110-30110 / 8973499930. I got mine on e-bay for $19.20 with free shipping. This time I didn’t need to swap out the arm, it was just plug and play. Just remember the right and left are mirror images. The Intermotor DLA185 (for driver’s side) was $70 on amazon, and made in Japan. We’ll see if the cheap china one lasts.
Keith Celenski Hey, thanks for this video and especially for these part numbers. I am trying to help a friend replace his actuators for his 2000 Celica, and I was having a heck of a time finding actuators. Only ones that turned up were junkyard one for $100+. Using your part numbers, found these for $33. www.ebay.com/itm/281699549717
Thanks again!
***** did the $33 parts you found on eBay worked for your friend's celica?
Ernest Reyes He is out of town this week. Will be installing them next week. I will give you an update how it turns out. I also found this how-to, if you are interested. Instead of replacing the actuator, the internal motors can be cleaned for free or replaced for about $10.

My friend chose to just replace the whole actuator, but this might be an option for you.
ok great I'll be looking into that, and I'll appreciate the update, thanks.
***** did you replace your friends yet? If so how did it go?
Big up for the video 👍👍!!! Thanks a lot!
thanks i repair mine with 4 dollars mabuchi motor that i buy on ebay, i cut the seal plastic cap with a blade to change the motor and then i glued the cap with crazy glue or hot glue together thanks again because toyota seal this lock on purpose to make you pay a lot more money .
Juan Gomez , mabuchi motor it's the name of the part that you bought?
thanks brother. such a big help. u r awesome save mine 300 nzd. god bless u.
Awesome, this work is what I need to do to mine. Thx si much for your tutorial 😀. Subscribed to your ch already 👍🏼
Keith thanks for the video. I replaced the driver side actuator on my wife's 01 Celica with the one from eBay same as the one you put in your passenger side just with different numbers. I'm having a problem with the key fob only unlocking the door and not locking. funny thing is that the switch on the center console does unlock and lock. Did you run into problems like this with the cheaper actuator maybe I need a new battery in the fob?
Keith, I've got the opposite problem. Both my remotes lock and unlock all the car doors, but the key in both of them fails to lock or unlock the driver's side door. The keys must be good, as they work in the ignition. Watching this video, it seems the problem is that metal rod, that it got disconnected inside the door panel. Yeah, I should try to fix this myself but I just don't know a thing about locks. The car is a 2011 Toyota Venza. Would you advise taking it to a dealer (high cost but the door panel gets put back on right) or a regular shop (low cost but might not know any more about door locks or panels than I do)?
i fixed mine following this, but now the door lock has stopped operating properly. whenever I open the door I have to turn and hold the key while pulling the door handle, otherwise the door handle doesn't do anything. basically it locks itself. thinking maybe one of the rods came loose inside.
update: I checked and all the rods are secure. when I turn the key to unlock it doesn't stay unlocked. when I turn the key back and remove it, it pops right back, as if I hadn't done anything. so I can't open the door (move the other rod) unless the door lock rod is simultaneously held down. Any suggestions how to fix?
conclusion: Actuator replacement I bought from Amazon died. the arm on the actuator for lock/unlock (the Y-shaped one) and was frozen up. the arm with the ball/socket still works of course. Replacing again with one with lifetime warranty from eBay.
wolfmanjacksaid wow, talk about tough luck, glad you were able to diagnose it and handle it. Nice job.
hi do you still own the celica? why not uppload more videos of the celica.
5:10 after unclipping my bar won't budge.... I'm on my passenger door if this helps. Any ideas?
How did you get the middle of you door red instead of black ???
Do you know if that new lock actuator works for a 2001 celica?
if you don't have a remote door locker, does this actuator still work? is the actuator different for remote and non-remote versions? i have to use the key in mine every time, but when i press the button inside, the driver side door doesn't move. Thanks for your video
+wolfmanjacksaid
It’s the same thing. The car door lock switch, and/or remote send the same signal to the actuator.
+Keith Celenski thanks. sorry if I missed it but what is the 10mm socket wrench used for?
two 10 mm nuts hold entire lock assembly to inside pane of door in addition to the 3 ea. torx t-30 flathead screws n en of door.
The actuator is nothing more than a small brush motor. This is what fails 99% of the time. You can buy 4 (YES FOUR) the MABUCHI motors for about $20 (Part number FC-280PC-22125) from eBay. MABUCHI I believe is the OEM.
The plastic housing that this video shows being replaced can be opened. You then can replace the motor. You will need to pull the the gear and/or collar (some years were slightly different) and reuse them.
So for $10 and a little more work than shown here, you can save even more. At $80 for ONE actuator, this would be $180 for both doors. I personally would rather pay $10....
+Raymond Broderick Which motors do I need for replacement, the round shaft or flat (D) shaft type? When I search the part number it brings up both types). Thanks!
did you find out which type xou need?
This seems to be a common fault on these cars, My 2004 celica has the same fault
Mine too
