Is the 2021 Dodge Challenger Scat Pack manual a BETTER muscle car than a Mustang GT?

- The Challenger has been around for many years and Dodge keeps coming out with different variations. The 2021 Scat Pack really embraces the true essence of a muscle car. Under the hood is a massive 6.4L Hemi V8 that pumps out 485HP & is mated to a Tremec 6-speed manual gearbox. On the outside you will find a functional hood scoop, 20in wheels, Brembo brakes, and dual outlet exhaust. On the inside there is a retro theme with cloth interior, 8.4in infotainment system, and analog gauges. Is the 2021 Dodge Challenger Scat Pack manual a BETTER muscle car than a Mustang GT?

You can’t go wrong with a challenger or 6 speed manual transmission. Especially what’s under the hood a NA v8 these cars will still be icons for years they will never be forgotten. The retro styling of the challenger has aged so well it will never look old or boring
No replacement for displacement!
yeah it's one of the few modern cars that actually did the retro look right, I'm not even into muscle cars and I can appreciate that
@@Toymonkeyjrand keeping the car as unaerodynamic as possible, it barely evolved.
@@SgawCules ? probably the most aerodynamic muscle car, every edge is smoothed besides the bumper, have you seen old muscle cars?
@@Toymonkeyjr when you compare the mustang to the Dodge in terms of shape, the mustang is more aerodynamic
Man, I’ve always loved the challenger and how the design philosophy keeps it true to self. Keep ‘em coming Joe!
You got it brother
Damn shut up
It has been almost 12+ years and the body hasn't even changed MUCH. and i still like it.
I am right there with you!
"Is the 2021 Dodge Challenger Scat Pack manual a BETTER muscle car than a Mustang GT?" The short answer is "yes" because it is the only one that still has the old muscle car look. As far as an overall sports car vs a Mustang, it comes down to preferences. Let me explain. I have a 2018 Manual Mustang GT. I've raced three Scat Packs (Two Challengers, One Charger) and beat them all pretty good. They ALL had me off the line, then I caught and passed them. The Low End Torque the Scat Pack has is unreal. I catch them seconds later because the Mustang has a steady increase in the higher gears and revs, where the Scats seemed to level off, plus the additional weight they were carrying didn't help. They have 485 hp stock, which is a ridiculous amount of power, however my Mustang seemed to maintain traction better. The best old school muscle car looks = Challengers win easily. There is nothing out there that looks like them. They're beautiful to me. That's not saying Mustangs and Camaros are ugly. They aren't. They don't look old school, either. The Mustang had some of that look with the Fifth Generation, but that changed in 2015. You want room for people and gear, don't care about handling, and want gobbs of low end torque, get the Challenger. You want to drive something American, sporty, fast, and that handles good, but you can't afford a Corvette, get the Mustang or Camaro. There really isn't a wrong answer here. Also, EVERYTHING is better as a Manual. That's all I have ever owned. Save the Manuals!
Thanks fir your awesome detailed comment.
@@RaitisRides Thank you for your videos.
The way I always read it online and personally saw it as is that the Challenger is a great long distance GT car, the Camaro is a great track car, and the Mustang is a blend of both between those two. That theme seems to continue from the Scat Pack, GT, and SS all the way up to the Hellcat Redeye, GT500, and ZL1
@@Justin_GFMFor what it's worth, I agree with you 100%. You put them in perspective perfectly.
had a 16 challenger scat, 2016 mustang gt manual, and currently charger scat 2021. the 6.4 is far more enjoyable to me than the 5.0
I truly think the 392 manual is a perfect street car. Every hellcat I see racing on the street they are almost useless, constantly losing traction and trying to kill it's owner. Unless you wanna do 90moh roll race. I love the 392 and Camaro because of the manual, pushrod setup.
I had a widebody 392 and was still always losing traction lol. Not bad in a straight line but it was terrible in the corners. I couldn't even imagine trying to daily a hellcat lol
I totally agree with you matt!
It need sticker rubber than those P Zeros
I like the Scat better overall but DOHC>>>pushrod

It's relatively marginal but I prefer the visibility of the challenger. The Camaro is the worst hands down, mustang in the relative middle. But I just love the challenger look and shape. Thanks for this review Joe.
This is so true!
Benefits I see with a mustang gt is the base model MSRP for what a challenger RT MSRP for and they take regular gas
Just sooooo much fun every time I’m behind the wheel. Always makes me smile 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼

@@RaitisRides Thank you for all these great videos!
I love these! I still would take my 5.0 over it cause I like engine better and handling and turning is nice but the styling and pure muscle car nature of Challengers is truly awesome!
Very good way of putting it!
I love seeing the pure enjoyment when you go on throttle. It makes me laugh and smile! Love your reviews!

I’m Just Now Finding Out That ScatPacks Come In Manual🤦🏽🤦🏽🤦🏽😂😂😂
5.0 all day! Gotta respect these though they’re 🔥
5.0 all day indeed
Nothing wrong with that!
yes sir Tim!
If we’re gonna modify it, 5.0 all day. It’s got WAY more tuner potential. If we’re keeping it stock, I’d go with the Scat. They’ve just got more soul when you drive them. That 6.4 is 1 peach of an engine!
I love his reaction when he started pushing the gas ,keep it up bro
Heck yeah! Thanks man!
You’re not yourself until you’ve had a scat pack I love the sound of those 🥰
They are a beast!
I'm not really a Dodge fan but if someone handed me the key fob to this beast I wouldn't refuse it.
The ongoing cost of gas and new back tires would be prohibitive, though.
I like the way that you think!
Man, I love the Challengers! I hope to own one of those someday. Thanks for reviewing this, man!
I believe in you! You can do it!
I’ve had 3 Mustang GT’s including my current car, a 21’ GT PP1 in Oxford White with Showstopper interior, which I love and an 07’ C6 Z06 in Lemans Blue and I’ve loved them all. But there’s sometimes about this Challenger in a manual that I really, really dig. When we have the discussion of which car is faster to 60 or in the 1/4, Camaro, the Stang or either of the Dodges, we are splitting hairs snd how often will you actually line it up? To me, cars are about emotion and how they make me feel when I drive them. This Challenger sounds great and it has the Tremec, which my GT, sadly does not… The C6 Z06 had a shit ton of low end torque. This Challenger does too. And for street driving, that torque provides all the emotion one could ask for. This manual Challanger with that 6.4 is talking to me!
love raitis rides. lived in south florida before i moved to texas in 2015. he has that east coast enthusiasm when reviewing these cars and i love it
I'm glad that n/a V8 w/ m/t muscle cars still exist
Who know for how much longer.
Long live Mopar 6speed manual transmission classic muscle car!
Just traded in my Mustang for a Scatpack. I love it. Not as fast, but it is the ultimate muscle car.
Congrats man!
Well done 👍. The back of the seat manual lever makes it much faster to adjust the seat.
Yes, and I believe Raiti forgot this beast has a backseat with no backdoors.
Great point!
Got this car in February, So nice, It doesn’t have too many buttons or make things touch screen only like new cars have these days. It’s simple and gets to the point, you want to drive this beast. I plan to replace the dash with a leather one, alr got barton shifter, throttle controller and planning on exhaust mbrp for now. Get this car, you won’t be disappointed
You knows that this guy is the best car reviewer when he literally said the charger is better than the mustang... and we all knows you are a die hard mustang fan and proud owner.
Well, the manual in the Challenger might be stronger, however, the Mustang shifts smoother in my opinion. Also, I like the room in the Challenger, but you can really feel the weight of the car compared to others in its class. Great review nevertheless.
There's really no other cars in it's class. All other coupes are tiny nowadays
@@jizzyjake6783 That's somewhat true, however, the Mustang and Camaro are it's rival although they aren't truly muscle cars in the traditional sense.
@@lloydhudson9032 yeah I know and in reality they've all become larger but so have I haha
@@jizzyjake6783 Lol, I totally get it.
Mustang and Camaro would handle and drive better, but the Challenger would be in style and cruising.
Smiles per mile man, great review as always JoE! Sweet spot in the Challenger line up, and the Dynamics Package gives you 275s with the 6 piston Brembos in a non-wide body. Great streetable power with the Scat Trim.
Thanks for letting me share it all with you!
How do you get the Dynamics Package? Gotta be put on by the factory? And can you just put on 275 rear tires without messing anything up?
You been doing good job with these performance monsters! Keep it up!
Thanks man for saying that! I love bringing them to you!
Just need to add the Dynamics package or T/A package and you get 275 series tires all the way around. Dynamics also gets you 6 piston Brembos and the flat bottom steering wheel. T/A gets you the Ram air hood and air catcher headlights.
That’s a great suggestion!
I think the way my Stang is optioned, with PP1 etc., it would hold it's own against this car. It's got wider meats in the back, a little less HP and TQ, but definitely lighter than this Challenger. Depending on the driver, the Stang would likely beat it, not destroy it, but beat it in a drag. The torque curve in these S550's is amazing, so linear and rev to the moon! Not knocking the Mopars, they are great cars, love the true retro look to them, but being under tired in the rear and heavy AF, I'll take the Mustang GT! I love that the manual is still barely alive! SO much more fun than the boring automatic! BTW, this is coming from an old ass die hard Chevy guy!! LOL! Cheers!
It is great to have the variety!
2021 is the first year in history that the Challenger outsold the Mustang, you can argue statistics all you want but the Challenger has the best looks. Even the more recent model refreshes on the Mustang didn't matter. Style over performance.
That being said, even the most tuned Hellcat would get rinsed by a GT350. All day.
Joe, I have a 12 GT but this challenger checks all the boxes for a great street car. The Tremec over the MT-82, badges, interior, screen display, drivetrain. I had a 70 challenger and a super bee and this car carries on the tradition.
Did you watch Rosy?
No I haven’t. Video?
I would love to see this car in person to see those beautiful lines and grooves in the hood design!
It’s at Jerry Ulm still!
A heated steering wheel in a challenger now that’s iconic 🥰🥰🙂

I just picked up my white knuckle scat pack manual challenger from Jerry Ulm Dodge in Tampa. The car is awesome!
Congrats man! You did it right!
Pretty good price for the performance you get. I'm glad they went with 45 aspect ratio on the tires instead of super low profiles. Much better for the ride and when you hit pot holes.
This is so ver true Oliver!

Best challenger to buy for the money.prefered the 6 speed pistol grip shifter it use to come with.that made it the ultimate experience.

Ever since Joe picked up a Camaro he switched from picking on the Camaro to picking on the Mustang. He used to abuse Camaros in the early Raiti’s Rides videos. With that said, the challenger is an excellent muscle car. The front of the car is on the ugly side. It’s like having a girlfriend with a great bod but an ug mug. I like the look of it’s cousin the Charger a lot more. Excellent video as always. The camera person is out of this world. 👍

@@RaitisRides - No offense but I’ve been watching your muscle car videos since about the time you created your channel. You used to praise most Mustangs and zonk the heck out of most Camaros. The Camaro was the butt of most of your muscle car jokes. Now the tide has turned.

What a sweet rumble this ScatPak makes! The best attribute that this Challenger has over its rivals is that the reliability of it far exceeds either the Camaro or the Mustang according to JD Power, Consumer Reports, and Kelly Blue Book. I was in my senior year of high school when this baby was introduced, but most of us could ill afford the $3000 MSRP. 😉
That’s so cool David! Very good points about the CR rating.
@@RaitisRides I subscribe to CR, and in addition every mechanic I know that works on all types of cars says that overall, the Mustang is the best built of the three. Not every year, but overall. I was in a side impact accident two years ago as well. I was fine, but the body shop people told me if I had been in the Camaro or Challenger that I would have been hospitalized. Five Star Crash Rating on the Mustang. They said Ford has better fortified doors on the Mustang.
@@thullraven1 the reliability of the challenger far exceeds the mustang. Fact.
@@vulcanman64 Not according to CR, Edmunds, every mechanic I know, and Scotty Kilmer. I'll take their facts over your "facts'" any day. I'm not going to argue with you. Your opinion means nothing to me. Challengers aren't even built in the US anymore. Mustangs are still being built in Flat Rock, MI. Whatever makes you happy. I love Mustangs. I love Challengers, too. The Challenger is just a tad bigger than I want as a daily driver or I might have gotten it instead of my Mustang. Moving on. Have a Merry Christmas.
@@thullraven1 Ford has always skimped out on the Mustang but they have gotten a little better and who the fuck is Scotty Kilmer?
I feel the Challenger is more of a muscle car for its straight line performance. On the other hand. The Mustang has become a sports car for it straight line performance and track prowess. If you watch IMSA GT4 racing or Trans Am sports car racing. You find Mustangs because of it's improved chassis to go with it straight line performance.
I just can’t call a Mustang a sports car.
I always like the Challenger, but I’m a Ford guy, so I’d go with a Mach 1, if I were looking for a comprisable car with the aforementioned Challenger. If I got what I really wanted, it would be a Ford Shelby GT500 Hennessy Venom 1000.
Dodge over Ford any day

I love the Mustang, but the Challenger has a classic look I love. The Challenger is more useful with a larger trunk and rear seat. Don't forget the Challenger also has a Tremec TR-6060. If I were to go Mustang, I'd have to step up to the Mach 1. It comes with the Tremec and looks really good.
yeah, that tremec is so good...but that Chinese junk manual not so much....
I agree with you, but I have aftermarket Clutch equipment to offset the crappy Manual.
@@jedknutson8373 I've had zero issues with my 12 GT manual, 88k miles.
You touched on all of the good points1
The MT-82 probably does ok at stock power levels, but it is known to be problematic when people beat on their cars. For what you pay for a Mustang GT, it should have a Tremec TR-6060 just like the Camaro and Challenger. I actually considered buying a Mustang GT when I bought my Challenger. The lack of a TR-6060 was the deal breaker.
Just get it with the dynamics package. 275s, bigger brakes, etc...You even get the flat bottom steering wheel.
This is very true!
This one has that
Without the sunroof, this car has saloon levels of rear headroom, looks and sounds mean and old school. My dream car because I want to carry my family in it. Go Mango, Sublime Green and Redline Red are awesome, to bad not all of them are always available, Plum Crazy and Indigo Blue are also great. Have to get the manual one.
I have the 2018 TA 392. It comes with the 6 piston Brembo.
Very cool
I had a 2018 B5 Blue Scat Pack with the automatic but now have a 2021 Pitch Black T/A 392. The manual may be a little slower but the feel is so much better with the manual. Plus the 3.90 gears in the back makes it pull harder off the line than the 3.09 ones you get with the automatic. The T/A package also comes with 275 width tires compared to the 245s on the standard Scat Pack which makes a big difference as well. They should have never decided to put 245s on any Scat Pack. As for Mustangs and Camaros, they stopped being muscle cars years ago now. They are more like sports cars now. The Challenger is the last true muscle car in my opinion.
to answer ur question:
no one is buying ford engines to swap in their cars 🤡🤡
everyone is buying hellcat and ls swaps
That is one way to look at it!
Joe, out here in CA a lot of ppl leave the yellow shipping guards on. I agree with you, it takes away from the car.
