What I like about the non linear storytelling is its not just done for fun. The story is about Strauss' confirmation hearing, which is mostly just them telling the story of Oppenheimer's hearing, a story which is then mostly them reviewing Oppenheimers life and building of the bomb. It's literally a story of a story of a story, completely organically created and unfolding at the same time, which requires the non linear story arcs. Incredible script writing.

David Krumholtz ( Isodor Rabi) is very under appreciated actor. I love the tv show Numbers.
Agreed, no one talks about him in this film. He is the moral centre of this film. Look at his facial expressions during the test and after it, says so much without saying anything.
It feels incredible that we still get movies like Oppenheimer from time to time. You should watch the Chernobyl miniseries
Yeah, this movie was masterful! I've seen Chernobyl and it was wonderful!
The wildest thing to me about this whole process is that while it was NEAR zero they never could get the chance to absolute zero that they wouldn't literally ignite the atmosphere and that would just be it for EVERYONE.
But then no one would survive to know so win-win.

Just to be clear irl the theory was very unpopular and widely disagreed with, and we now know a fission reaction could never do such a thing. Just because one scientist said something doesn't mean science _must_ consider it. The theory was blown out of proportion for effect in the movie, since it's a popular misconception everyone thought it could happen.
Emily Blunt was fire in that interrogation scene but the old guy on the board made my heart sing with his one line and look of admiration.
AGREED!!! His tiny role was everything! But yeah, she killed that scene.
It was weird because the actor playing that old guy was recently somewhat of a villain in the "Chernobyl" miniseries. (Speaking of Communists 😉 )

This film is epic on several levels. The writing was epic. The dialogue, the use of the camera to highlight dialogue and that last line, which was probably the most iconic piece of film writing I have ever witnessed, the hanging idea that has yet to be fulfilled, that their creation will eventually destroy the world. Wow. Then there was the acting. I think Nolan just cut these actors loose and let them bring it. I have seen films where the cast was extremely talented, but in this case I felt like everyone who had a speaking part deserves an Oscar. But mostly I appreciated the characters. Almost everyone knows that Oppenheimer led the team that made the atomic bomb, but most couldn’t tell you much about him. Nolan and Murphy brought Oppenheimer to life and reintroduced him to the world. This one is epic! Great reaction Jax. I wish you had more films like this to react to.

I saw this twice in IMAX. During the lead up to the bomb being detonated. My heart was beating out of my chest. Btw, as an Irishman. I was very proud of Cillian Murphy when he won the Oscar .
If I were that interviewer that tried to insist to him he's British, I'd still feel like a dope about it to this day.

Hello my name is Justin and I'm a Christian and Apologist but I'm also a college graduate. I'm not a closed minded Theist as I have nothing against Atheists or unbelievers as I speak to them often to understand their reasons for unbelief but we as Christians are convinced of God's Existence due to many real factors). First of all there's proof that Jesus of Nazareth existed in history since the writings of Tacitus, Josephus Flavius, Pliny the younger and other historical documents prove that He was living two thousand years ago that even scholars both religious and Atheists agree with historically speaking but not that He's The Divine Son of God because obviously they don't.
I'm going to give you historical and archeological evidence for God's Existence as The Scriptures have prophecies that predate the events recorded in them by several millennia including Matthew, Hosea and Zechariah which prophesy accurately of the people of Israel becoming a nation again after over 1900 years of being scattered around the nations since the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem in 70 A.D. spoken of by Christ in Matthew 23:29-24:3 and returning to their homeland after The Holocaust with Jerusalem as their capital in 1948 exactly as Jesus The Christ said. The prophets including Daniel spoke of the time where several world empires would arise and fall including the Babylonian kingdom, Medes and Persians, Roman Empire, and Saladin and the Muslims which went in consecutive order for the past few millennia. The people of Israel becoming a nation after The Holocaust in 1948 (ironically the melting point of gold as God compares Israel to gold that's tested in fire in Zechariah 13:8 and Jeremiah 16:15) exactly how Jesus The Christ said would happen since God us everything to come in The Scriptures and not just because people were working towards as Atheists claim which are impossible for any regular man to predict.
Just before anyone says Christianity is a white man's religion made to oppress blacks during slavery you obviously aren't aware that the first Christians were Jews in The Middle East and that Christianity just like any religion can be used by evil and corrupt people to oppress others but you forget that the first Abolitionists/Civil Rights activists were Christians who sought to abolish slavery, racism, segregation, injustice and prejudice throughout American history. Jesus The Christ loves you enough not to give you what we all deserve which is God's Wrath by His Own Blood. Charles Darwin didn't originally come up with The Theory of Evolution over 200 years ago as it is mentioned in the writings of Ancient Greeks who believed in Demons that gave knowledge to philosophers.
Evolution makes no sense when nothing has evolved after thousands of years of human history and supposedly the first creature came from primordial sludge several millions of years
ago funny how they won't believe that God an Eternal Almighty Spirit Being created us from the Earth) which came from a supermassive expansion of matter at high temperature that inexplicably created everything in the known universe that supposedly came from nothing billions of years ago. How did the organs evolve before there were bones, skin, substance and how did any creatures see before eyes evolved? I've studied evolution and abiogenesis in the past and read Darwin's " Origin of The Species" and I'm not convinced of macro Evolutionary biology whereas I accept micro Evolution like speciation and adaptation but not macro Evolution because there's no evidence of it nor clear observable examples of it where living creatures evolve into other kinds of species plus the fact that fossils don't show evidence of evolution and genetic entropy rules out evolution. The question begs how did two genders evolve from a common ancestor with a perfectly hospitable and sustainable environment with breathable oxygen and resources to survive on inexplicably? Atheists have the burden of proof to explain how everything came to be and why our existence is possible without the Existence of God from an godless perspective just as Christians have to provide evidence of God's Existence and the validity of His Word.
Evolution requires life to already exist in order to take any effect in living organisms so it doesn't account for the existence of Life and reality. Also evolution is impossible because it goes against The Law of entropy and the second Law of thermodynamics because evolution makes things better whereas nothing continues to get better but decays and turns to absolute destruction in the end. Mark Ridley an Evolutionist said "No evolutionist whether gradualist or punctuationist uses the fossil record as evidence in favor of The Theory of Darwinian Evolution as opposed to special Creation". God's Existence is made perfectly known and observable in the universe as demonstrated in His Handiwork in the intelligently designed manner that Creation was made, human consciences and consciousness historical and archaeological evidence of God's Word being valid history, fulfillment of Bible Prophecies God in His Holiness and Righteousness could give us what we deserve in Hell for our since but He's merciful to give us free will to choose to accept or reject His gift of salvation by grace through faith in His Son Jesus. There's a great video online about the soundtrack and how difficult it was to change tempos in the middle of one of the themes. They actually changed the click track in the musicians' ears a bar before they got there, so they had to finish what they were playing at the previous tempo while already hearing the next.

@2:48 regarding his lack of reaction to Oppenheimer grabbing the apple from his hand, my interpretation is that he is used to physicists having eccentricities (heck he may have some himself) so small odd actions like that don't phase him anymore.

The significance of the laundry indicates whether they'd be staying in Los Alamos or not, and ultimately if they were still involved with the U.S. government or not. If the Trinity test is successful, it means they'll be staying and will need the sheets for further use. If the test fails, Oppie and his family will probably be forced to leave and they won't need the sheets because they won't be living there anymore.

I'm a physicist. I really appreciate how Nolan puts scientists and engineers center stage in so many of his movies. I do have one minor gripe with this movie though; Einstein was very good at math, the line where he expressed disdain for mathematics is playing into a common misconception about him. For example his paper on Brownian motion from the miracle year is a stunning blend of his amazing physics *and* math skills.

Nolan made a huge mistake not using CGI for the nuclear explosion. The gasoline explosion looked NOTHING like a real nuke.

I saw this twice in digital IMAX and drove 3 hours to watch it in 70mm IMAX. The experience was AMAZING. Nolan doesn't make movies. He makes experiences (even when you don't know wtf is going on lol)
The sequel to this film is called Godzilla Minus One. 😂

Although most would probably disagree with me, I consider this film Christopher Nolan's best work. As great as the Dark Knight is, which I would consider it the best superhero film of all-time, Oppenheimer definitely establishes everything about Christopher Nolan's filmmaking style more than any other movie he made.

No, he wasn't concerned with someone taking the apple he was about to eat because Oppie made a physics joke when he did it. That's why he said, "wormhole..." When I watched this in theaters I was the only person to give a reasonably loud aha at the punchline.
I wish at the end while the dialogue of " destroying the world " goes on , the director shows how the first news reports of each of the 9 nuclear states testing their nuke were shown

The man with bongos is Richard P. Feynman, later Nobel prize winner. I recommend his books "Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman!: Adventures of a Curious Character" and "What Do You Care What Other People Think?: Further Adventures of a Curious Character".

This is one of those movies that I gotta watch a few times before I really understand what’s going on? It’s one of those movies that’s easy to get lost if you don’t know your history very well.
Anyway, good reaction again. I’m like you, if I see someone that looks familiar I get excited and I gotta know what other movie they’re in, or I go crazy. But I didn’t notice there were so many that played in the dark knight.

19:33 he actually wasn't wrong. We would have had WW3 with Russia a LOOONG time ago if we didn't have nuclear deterrents. I might be wrong because I can't find what I read before, but I'm pretty sure we have had less casualties from war since nuclear weapons, since most countries with them don't want to go to war with other bigger countries that have them.

I've been to Hiroshima last month and been to the Atomic War Memorial musem and it was a Harrowing experince. The Mesem show and tell the events of the first atomic bombing and the account of the survivors of bomb, the pictures & drawings from the exhibits look like something out of Dante's Inferno. The ending of the film show what Oppenhiemer unleashed upon the world.
That was the single scariest ending dialogue in any movie I have ever seen..that scared the sh.t out of everybody I know

If you want to see another great film with Robert Downey Jr., I highly recommend the Charlie Chaplin biopic, Chaplin. One of my favourite performances from him. I haven't seen any reactions to the film which is sad because it's a great film.

That closing line about destroying the world is absolutely chilling, anyone who has studied how these weapons work and what happens when they are used would and should, be terrified by that simple scene.
It was such a great line to end the movie one!

Anybody, who had read an IPCC report or IPBES report, should have this thought.
Almost each one of our move is consuming fuel, releasing greenhouse gases.
Almost each one of our production ends as a pollution, a waste of matter made nonrenewable by nature.
In order to avoid to destroy the world, we have to convince majority of humanity to listen to scientists speech about the big picture, and to renounce to satisfy salesmen ambitions.
If we don't, according to scientists previsions, the most populated country of the world would stop to have a weather, offering conditions compatible with a support of human life, in few decades.
That country is a nuclear power like its neighbors.
In that area, 3 billions of people may be forced to migrate or die. That is an insane amount of people.
World Wars made dozens of millions of death. That means that climate change is potentially an hundred of times worst than a World War.
Our terrestrial cultures will be affected by droughts. Fishing ressources will be affected by death of phytoplankton.
Our water supplies will be diminished by acceleration of water cycle.
We will have to feed more people at same place with less ressources.
Nobody wants to hear that.
That is why ecologists are, nowadays, mistreated like communists in this movie.
There are lots of pertinent parallels to do with current situation, acting like efficient metaphors in this movie.
The ignition of atmosphere makes a perfect illustration of a global warming, but a less instantaneous nuclear war is a better one. Because victims of climate change are dying in events, that are repeating during decades, not in an instantaneous one.
I liked how Nolan depicted the fact, that H-Bomb race did not make a sense for most of scientists, because one A-bomb was able to destroy an entire city of that time, but that had no importance to soldiers.
The same kind incomprehension exists between people who would be happy with a sober life, and people obsessed about selling and buying stuff.
When the recreate the Trinity bomb, tha was an iconic representation

Let me explain Hollywood's association with the communist party before WW2. Lucile Ball said it best in a couple of interviews. I'm only piecing together what I remember: Her grandfather was a working man who was at the mercy of the Industrialists and the Robber Barrons. Then the Great Depression hit. So people joined a (Workers Union) to demand better pay and working conditions. Most of these early workers' unions didn't have any affiliation with communist political ideology. They were nothing more than social clubs. This is how Lucile Ball and several writers, directors, and actors became registered Communists in the late 1930s. She joined an actors' workers union.
Ignoring that MANY joined the Communist Party outright...

A love story between an British guy and an American girl, set in the late '60s / early '70s. With the Vietnam war in the background. Starring Jim Sturgess, Evan Rachel Wood & Joe Anderson. In my opinion, this is Christopher Nolan's second-best film. You need to react to my personal #1: TENET (2020). It had an Imax re-release back in February and my appreciation actually skyrocketed. I was amazed at literally how every aspect of filmmaking improved from INCEPTION, and moreover did not waste time in exposition and was just go-go-go from frame one. You NEED to react to TENET, just keep your mind alert when watching it.

Great Movie with great acting. Florence Pugh was great in this. I hope we see more of her as Yelena in Marvel too. There is no doubt that Cillian deserved his Oscar. I hope you watch Peaky Blinders in the near future
I LOVED Peaky Blinders! It was such an incredible show. Also, Florence Pugh is such a great actress and I'm thrilled she's joined the MCU.
