Hello Professor Egils. Greetings from Brazil. My name is José Carlos Lima. Tomorrow I'm going to start learning this routine with my partner. I have no words to say thank you for you huge generosity in teaching your knowledge, for free, to all of us around the world. I started learn dance almost 3 years and I never danced in my life. I must tell you that I'm not young but I just don't care. I decided that this is what I'm gonna do and keep on learning for the rest of my life. By the way I am a professional musician: Violinist, Singer and play eletric and classic guitar and music teacher. I must say that your rhythm and musicality is very good. It makes me think you have a music formation. Any way, if you will need help in any subject you do not understand in any style of music, I will be more than happy in helping you. Thanks a lot for your classes.
+zecalimazeca, thanks for appreciating our dance tutorials. Unfortunately I don't play any music instruments, but I still love listening to music and of course dace to it. Wish all of us enjoy both music 🎶 and dance 💃 movements!
This is the best cha cha basic steps tutorials for beginners. Thank you so much for posting this video. I am a total beginner, learning the cha cha basic steps and your instructions are so easy to follow.
There is so much to learn in regards to the terminology alone! But truly so many other pro's who need to teach amateurs like on DWTS or in dance studios could benefit by observing your teaching methods. You have a very calm way of teaching. When we amateurs are learning it is so important to get the very basic arm movements and basic foot placement right before we can even begin to learn the steps. In my humble opinion I see people who learn a dance but don't have those basic shoulder, arm, hand ect. placements and it looks...well...incomplete. Well done!
+Edith Paul thanks, I'm very pleased to hear that you like my teaching style and methods. I think that ballroom and latin dancing technically is difficult enough and therefore we need as clear and easy description and demonstration of movements as possible. Thanks for your appreciation! Egils
I love your videos! They are so easy to understand! I searched for this because I need to dance as a school requirement, but now I am starting to get really interested with dancing :)
Best video I've seen for introducing and teaching this dance. Amazingly easy presented this way. Can't wait for our dance contest at the next fundraiser "Neon Nights" - April 6th, 2023. #TrainBuildSucceed
Hi Egils your dance instruction in this video is excellent for the complete novice. It would greatly improve my learning to dance if the other tutorials were delivered at the same pace and with similar instruction about the when to turn and move etc. I find the 1234 count difficult to follow, I have viewed your instruction video about the step and music beat but I am lost as to when I should turn and move in different directions. The other cha cha videos are much faster compared to the instruction on this video. A full cha cha dance routine with this style of instruction would be most welcome by many and not just myself, I am sure. That said, I found your videos to be the best on-line tutorials by far, but beyond the first cha cha basic cha cha video the other a little fast for the complete beginner.
Thanks again Egils. We pushed back the carpet and worked through most of this video last night (watched it 50 times!). Hoping to get the whole routine down by this evening. Getting the hip movement correct is my main problem. Great vid. Thanks again. Cheers Dom
hello ....Englis, just been watching your wonderful videos... there is so much to learn but you make this so easy .... thank you ... Happy Dancing ....
Hey Egils! Thank you very much for the video! I have one question that troubles me lately and hope you could help---in Cha Cha basic side step/side close side, the count 4 (the first side step) is it one bent knee and one straight knee or 2 straight knees? I saw videos that side steps are 2 straight legs and also videos that show only count 1 is two straight legs. I'm very confused. Are they just style differences?
Egils, when you trained for Latin competition, what exercises did you use to get yourself up to perform at the tempo speed of Cha Cha and not loose form, technique or style?
+Dancer2016 Adobe Sound & Music Tutorials, I suggest to dance in practice whole routine in different speeds of music. But before competition just warming up and dance competition without thinking, just feeling movement.
Question: What did you do to get your body-legs-feet to move with the tempo of Cha Cha without loosing timing and co-ordination? If I slow the Cha tempo down a bit, I can keep up, but when I get to the standard tempo for Cha, I loose timing with the tempo and find it hard to keep up. The difficulty is moving into the forward check step and back and the back check step and forward (steps 2 & 3) during the basic figure. I tend to end up loosing speed at those steps. Is it because step 2 is not a full weight step?
+Dancer2016 Adobe Sound & Music Tutorials, thanks for very good question. When we change time by playing faster music, we also have to change amount of movement otherwise we struggle to be in music. And this includes lesser weight transfer in checks. You are right on count 2 especially in check forward there isn't full weight transfer. Egils
Thank-you. That information made a big difference and yes, now I can stay with the beat and actually work the sequence with more musicality and flow. I also watched a few other videos of world renowned Latin dancers as "Michael Wentink" and "Max Kozhevnikov" (2 of my favourites, love their technique and style), and watching them shows the same thing you said.
No matter how many of your videos I watch, I still can’t get over how clear you make things, even for a complete beginner. Thank you!
