De Arte et Mysteriis: A Latin Language Podcast on Magic and Occult Philosophy

- Announcing my new Latin only podcast (or "acroama"), De Arte et Mysteriis, which serves to provide brief explanations of concepts and texts in the history of western esotericism in simple, comprehensible Latin.
Most Latin resources on this platform focus on classical authors - Cicero, Vergil, Catullus, and Caesar - and as much as I love those channels, they made me want to put together a series of my own. My goal is to focus on brief episodes that would help students build up their "comprehensible input" with simple Latin discussions centered on the works of Medieval and Renaissance magicians, astrologers, alchemists, and philosophers. Here, we'll read and discuss brief excerpts of Latin found in magical texts, grimoires, and philosophical treatises - from Picatrix to Ficino, and Agrippa to Kircher - and we'll attempt to do so entirely in Latin.
Si erravi - et certe erravi - ignoscite mihi, quaeso.

This is great! Any chance you could upload your script as subtitles? My Latin is pretty ok but both hearing and reading it would really help me out. Thanks for this, Dan!
Thanks Justin! I did upload the script as subs, but it doesn't seem to be working due to being in a different language. I may have to set the subtitles manually...
Seconded, I was about to request that!
@@TheModernHermeticist Thank you for trying to get it to work. I look forward to seeing it. My latin is really rusty and I really want to refresh my memory.
I can't get over how understaldable this is for a native Spanish speaker with a bit of good will. Very interesting.
This one is for tonight thank you for everything as always dan ❤
Grātulor tibi grātiāsque agō prō iūcundō doctissimōque acroāmate. Plūra equidem libenter exspectābō!
Maximas tibi gratias ago! Placet mihi canalem tuum auscultare!

@ I can't thank you enough for recommending my channel! Pāx tibi!
This came at the perfect time! I just started studying latin this year to supplement some of my studies. I hope this continues!!
Usually the content of your videos are over my head, but for a different reason.
I didn't understand a thing, but watched anyway 😊
@ lol I skipped this one.
Not to worry, this doesn't replace regular content, just a side project.
Gratias tibi, magister! I always love a good Latin language video, and I’m going to watch this several times to make sure I absorb it all. For others who are interested in spoken modern-day Latin media, I strongly recommend Latinitas Animi Causa by Andrew Morehouse and his wife Ilsa, as well as Carla Hurt’s comprehensible input series on Found in Antiquity. The learning resources on Scorpio Martianus by Luke Ranieri and the Satura Lanx channel are also excellent and Magister Craft is just plain fun.
Yes! All these are great channels!
Can't wait to listen, thanks Dan
"Gratias tibi ago, Dan".

Heck ya dan, I'm confident some parts of my DNA understanding these words
Which romance language speaking DNA is that?
I have no idea what is going on but I am thankful for it.
Gratias tibi ago, bene egisti, et multas res idem spero!

Some kind of portal is opening in my kitchen, should I be concerned? 😳

Optimum plura Latine tractata acroamata videre de variis et diversis. Nescioquando mea adiciam; pro tempore eis frui bene placet.
Hoc est quod doctus sonat. Cur? Quia magnum studium requiritur ad linguam Latinam vocemque Romanam penitus cognoscendam.
It’s Greek to me😂
In french we say "this is some chinese"
