Anyone that has worked in the defense contracting business knows that a majority of the engineers in the u. S or either Chinese or Indian very fit. Americans even know how to do that type of work. So when you say things like they started developing their system in 2012 I don't think you understand no. They helped the US develop their technology. The only received the license to develop it later for themselves. These little short stories on how this technology comes about. You need to do a little bit more research phone it. The Chinese navy have maintained a 3-ship anti-piracy flotilla in Djibouti for years. This isn’t news. And, as long as the Yemenis leave Chinese ships alone, the Chinese are unlikely to engage the Houthis. Secondly, improving relationships with the US is unlikely to be a Chinese priority when attacking the US diplomatically over the support for Israel is going to strengthen the standing of China in the entire Muslim world and global south. Given the Chinese choice to throw their weight against the US in the Security Council, it would not make sense to support the US in the Red Sea, especially when the Arab states are keeping silent

I suspect that support of Israel is going to significantly hurt anyone who gave military aid. Evidence sure looks like war crime central and I strongly suspect South Africa will be successful in the Hague. Given how dependent China is on shipping, imports and exports, any stance that threatens it is far costlier than it might seem on face value. Probably why they tried the bribes (I have zero doubt that they did for a variety of reasons).

Exactly! Also one needs to keep in mind that the Chinese spent four years crafting the peace deal between the Saudi's, Iran, and by proxy the Houthi's(all without anyone even knowing they were doing so). Thus the Chinese turning around and attacking the Houthi's when one of the aim's of that hard won peace deal was their security is ridiculous. I also had a good chuckle at that bit about "Oh as soon as the Houthi's run into an actual military they run away." bit.
Since the Houthi's have been in a state of near constant war against the US/Canadian-equipped and trained Saudi military for the better part of decade(and destroyed countless M1A2 Abrams, Bradley's, LAV-21's, etc).
A conflict in which they routinely kicked the Holy howling hell outta the Saudi's in ground engagements and in the asymmetrical field. The idea that the Houthi's are in any way "scared" of engaging anyone's military is beyond fucking funny to anyone who's done more than a cursory glance at a wiki page on them.
I mean to be entirely honest the Houthi's have more American spirit than the US does at this point in terms of FAFO energy, gun ownership/love, and willingness to die for their own(and others) freedom. Something like 1 million Houthi's VOLUNTEERED to join up when they stated they would stand against the Israeli genocide in Gaza. While meanwhile the US military branches can't even meet their basic force requirements and have shortfalls of close to something like 300K across all services I believe?

You make it sound like that the Houthis are cowards when they retreat from a ship they have seized when forces such as MARCOS from India come to storm and liberate the captured ship. On the contrary, I would argue that they are showing quite a bit of intelligence and tactial savvy.
They kmow that they don't have the firepower, training or manpower to defeat a liberating force and attempting to do so would just be a waste of manpower and resources. As Tacitus is reported to have opined "He that fights and runs away, May turn and fight another day; But he that is in battle slain, Will never rise to fight again." , and that it seems is exactly what the Houthis are doing.

Question: Do all models of CIWIS depress low enough to engage such small drones we are seeing coming out of Ukraine?
I could be wrong, or the russians incompetents, but I believe I saw a couple of their ships trying to use CIWIS against naval drones before being sunk by said drones because the guns couldn't depress low enough at a certain range to hit those boats and with Stealth-ish designs might be pretty hard to detect those boats before they are danger close.

I don't think tensions are going to decrease between the CCP and the west/most Chinese neighbors.
Chinese leadership is in an economic pickle and has been since about half-way through covid. The response to companies divesting has been to increase anti-foreigner actions and propaganda, along with an increased crackdown on Chinese nationals (they disappear) in an attempt to not lose face/keep populace under control. Remember that the CCP can NEVER be seen to be wrong, or at least nobody can talk about it. The very strategy that the CCP uses to stay in power is the one that alienates the rest of the world and deepens China's problems. The only way to keep conflict away is to make it as uninviting as possible (no easy war for political stability) or abandon Taiwan and accept the massive loss in advanced technology with other international detractors.
*edit: Correction, China has been in an economic pickle for some time due to short sighted policy and economy sapping corruption, but it has been in immediate trouble when the money stopped flowing about half way through covid.

The United States only needs to stop military sales of TW, reduce tariffs, and lift trade sanctions. The relationship will be better. China can turn its funds towards space development, space navigation, landing on the moon, and space ecology.

The U.S. Secretary of Defense has made three demands of China, and China will not improve its relations with China unless it agrees.
Number one: stop developing advanced weapons.
Number two: stop cooperating with Russia.
Third: Cut the military in half.
I think it's better for China to maintain hostile relations with the US.😂

I gotta admit I had a good chuckle at that bit about "Oh as soon as the Houthi's run into an actual military they run away." bit.
I mean to be entirely honest the Houthi's have more American spirit than the US does at this point in terms of FAFO energy, gun ownership/love(stores regularly accept bullets as currency across the country), and willingness to die for their own(and others) freedom. Something like 1 million Houthi's VOLUNTEERED to join up when they stated they would stand against the Israeli genocide in Gaza. While meanwhile the US military branches can't even meet their basic force requirements and have shortfalls of close to something like 300K across all services I believe? I know the US army is already cutting like 20 or 40K jobs now due to those shortfalls and hell most of your population isn't even fit to hold a paintball gun let alone a real one.
So yeah I just gotta shake my head at you man as you've so very obviously fall into the DoD/establishment paid shil-er influencer category over the last couple years. Not really all that surprising really to anyone with a brain who knows the least bit about PsyOps/social engineering. That an I mean I get it I guess most people these day's would and do 'sell their soul to the devil' pretty cheap after all. But ya think ya could at least do so while not committing one of the cardinal sin's of warfare? I.e: underestimating and failing to respect one's opponents. But you've got yer DoD approved script to go off of and while the Pentagon has many things functional brain cells aren't one of em after all.

Last I checked the PLAN staked out an area not in the Red Sea itself but well out in the Indian Ocean, not specifically to discourage the Houthis but piracy in general... more likely targeting very adventurous Somali pirates. It's a stretch to say that the Chinese deployment could be considered part of the Red Sea anti-piracy but it's in the general area, or at least close by.

Kind of surprised they're sending the 052D out given that it's not that great against sea skimming missiles - it would be very embarassing for the chinese to take a hit on a warship.
A couple of things occur to me, it's possilbe that the Chinese could be going to join the US action (not formally but work to the same effort) however I think it's more likely that they are there as "insurance" Against the houthi breaking their agreement and to deal with any piracy that occurs against chinese ships again. China rarely acts outside its narrow definition of its own direct national interest.
The most likely possiblity is that they will do this and a little extra antipiracy whilst observing and collecting data on US and allied naval operations and senors/capabilities etc.
The other alternative though is that they're prepostiioning a naval force to ally with the Houthi, afterall all their statements have been against the US opeations so conceivably they're backing their actions with words.... I think this is very unlikely but it is notable that this force would be relatively difficult for the US ships there to deal with especialy with their poorly integrated command and control

      1. The HHQ9B of 052D has the ability to intercept sea-skimming missiles, and China released a video many years ago. The mistake in his video is that he blindly used the S300F to match the HQ9. 2. 052D has been in the Red Sea for many years, and its purpose is only to defend against pirates. 3. 052D is usually accompanied by 054A, and 054A's 32 VLS are all used to defend against low-altitude targets. 4. Houthis have promised not to attack Chinese ships, and the Chinese Navy has no reason to fight back against Houthis.
