    Congrats! Amsterdam is a cool place.
    Also about Moby-Dick:
    It goes fast paced for 100ish pages, then slowish for the middle 200, then for the last 100 it is very very fast and unputdownable. Don’t read anything about whales or whaling before reading to make the mid part more engaging as a read.
    Congrats again!

    Amsterdam is really nice! You should check out Copenhagen and Brussels as well since they’re close by. I really want to read The Talented mr Ripley but I got a trip to Italy in august and I want to read it when I’m there.

    Congrats to being accepted into grad school! Amsterdam is a fantastic city to live in.
    I would actually bring only three unread books max with me, especially not some I feel sentimentally connected to. You will buy and find more favourites while you are there and then you will be confronted with the decisions which one to leave behind when you are going to return. So I would save your loved ones from that decision.

    Hi Valentina, I hope you have a lot of fun in Amsterdam. One tip from me as a Dutch booklover, take a trip to the city of Maastricht, it's a 2,5 hour trainride from Amsterdam and it has one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world (according to the Guardian): Selexyz Dominikanen. It's a medieval church that has been repurposed into a bookstore. You'll love it. Maastricht is worth a day-trip otherwise as well.

      Hello! Thank you so much for this information. I am 100000% going to be taking weekend trips to neighboring cities and this has moved Maastricht to the very top of my list. If you have any more bookstore recs please let me know 🙌

      I didn’t go to any in Amsterdam but Willie Wortel in Haarlem is awesome. Great prices and great bud but limited options for a baby like me who doesn’t smoke spliffs. As for winter I’m a midwesterner so I feel (and hope) I can handle it. Trust this will be documented on here 🙌

  • @JohnSeney
    @JohnSeney 4 місяці тому

    Blessings to you that is quite the accomplishment 👍 I would not think you have to carry much, that is a very "bookish" city you're headed to. I believe you can finish all the books in this vid over the spring and summer here. "Demons" is typically good like any Dostoyevsky but it is SLOW and long, I would recommend more of his humorous short stuff ("The Double," "A Disgraceful Affair," "The Village of Stepanchikovo") first so you don't burn out on him! 👍

    • @bookpogo
      @bookpogo  4 місяці тому +1

    Embrace your new journey with strength & courage. My favorite Dutch scholar is Ayaan Hirsi Ali. She's an incredibly important voice right now, as the Netherlands has been struck with Socialist ideology & radical terror*st attacks.
