The thing about Deathgrippers is that they are very clearly not meant to be offensive predators- the way they look and their natural defenses indicates they may naturally be ambush predators at the very least- dragons not meant to move around for long or directly attack their prey. The ones Grimmel had under his control were clearly not acting as they naturally would.

This fight is actually dependent on chance because it could go either way. The light fury by have the upper hand if they were in the sky but if they were, say, trapped somehow on the land, the deathgripper would probably have the upper hand. It also depends on how many deathgrippers were attacking the light fury and how many light Furies were attacking the deathgripper.
