Not exactly false but not exactly right either, it's only one of the standard military swords, the most majority of military swords were still Yan Ling Dao 雁翎刀 and 柳葉刀 Liu Ye Dao.
Definitely a cavalryman's sword. Which makes sense if there is a Japanese influence as the Samurai was a cavalryman in essence. So, a blade that is long and curved enough to be used from horseback, while being an effective dueling saber while on foot.

The handle looks like Mongolian sabers, I believe Mongolian sabers also had an influence on Chinese swords after Yuan dynsasty
