I have restless leg syndrome I can tell you I don’t have numbness or pain or anything you just described. It is a feeling of having to move my legs. It feels like there are things crawling inside my legs that I have to move and if I don’t move them that my legs will move on their own end, they will also do it when I am asleep.

  • @denisejames855

My experience, my Mum and my Grandma is there is not pain. It is an inner feeling of crawling, shaking, the need to move. It begins very soon on lying down, sometimes it will begin in the late afternoon. The need to move, walk, kick your legs and walk barefoot on cold tiles is endless. Stretching can help mildly, heat aggravates, cold is the best. Without medication this can last all night, I've ceased taking meds at times and it is horrendous. The dose required varies over the years. I have suffered lots of pain in my life, think spine laminectomy, gall bladder, hysterectomy, may other issues, RLS is way the worst. Sometimes I can walk and exercise at night for an hour and return to bed and it stops, sometimes less. This is something massage doesn't help, there is some research that it is a lack of Iron in the brain but this is not confirmed. I also have neuropathy in my legs so know the difference. I exercise daily either in the pool or floor.

Restless Legs Syndrome is less about pain, it's that tickling or even the electric shock like sensations that come as soon as you get tired. Stretching can help a little but only when the symptoms are very light. An other natural remedy is magnesium oil which you can massage onto the affected areas. Severe Restless Legs can only be calmed down with medication. My experience.

Yes, I feel the same! It's not actually painful. It's a strange, very annoying feeling that gets relieved when you move your legs (like the movement reduces the unpleasant sensation), hence the name.

RLS runs in my family. Moms had it. My sister,72 has it and I 88, have it. I just started to drink a small glass of tonic before sleep. Didn’t work last night. May be it was not enough ? What does help me is get out of bed and make a cup of tea with a digestive cookie and a piece of cheese. Good luck to all of you RLS people out there. BTW, my sister gets on the electric plate when it gets too bad, at night.
It helps her. I have not tried that.

GUYS I SUFFERED FROM THIS FOR 4 YEARS
The best remedy is getting fit , this is caused by a sedentary lifestyle, stress.
Your legs need oxygen, try to get cardio as a routine enough to sweat and get your heart pumping and breath deeply. Minimum 3 or 4 days of the week, you have to push your self. I AM COMPLETELY HEALED FROM RLS !

I had to stop moderate strength training because it severely triggered my rls. I'm glad this may have helped for you, but in true rls heavy exercise exacerbates it. Please don't give out this kind of advice when you don't know what you are talking about.

I'm slowly starting up again now with a little bit of jogging. I just love it and miss it. I think I was just really annoyed with the creator of this video, as his advice was worthless and he's just trying to sell gadgets, while basically telling us it's not really rls we have. 🙄Take care, thanks for the response!

My Neurologist told me that I am the worst case of RLS she has ever seen. At night it can get sooo bad that it looks like a seizure. My whole body is flaying around. I end up moping around all night with my arms jerking as I walk. Luckily she got me on a Butrans patch which helps with my night time RLS but I get it during the day as well. For some strange reason it doesnt help for the daytime. So I just started looking at leg Massagers. I'm getting some with my next paycheck. We have tried everything. A bunch of Parkinsons meds, Iron, Gabapentin, Opioids, Opiates. While the opiates and opioids work I get a tolerance to them quickly. I dont know what else to try except Leg and foor Massagers. I have high hopes for these things.

Please stop saying restless leg syndrome!!! It’s a setback. I was feeling some relief from an exercise I was doing then you had it say it a 100 times. Now I’m back to square one! However I appreciate the information you shared. It’s pretty helpful. I’d only suggest you say it once or twice and deal with the pointers you have suggested. Thank you 🤝

I'm confused. I've watched a lot of videos and I don't have any of the symptoms but my podiatrist had me do blood work and MRI on my back and see a neurologist for a nerve conduction test and right away he says I have restless leg syndrome. My problem is the balls of my feet getting numb and burn and that's all. He prescribed me ropinirole. I already take gabapentin and Tramadol. I need an answer without drugs. I was shocked because I don't have any of the symptoms only the balls of my feet bother me. Could you possibly reply to this? I would appreciate it..

You're absolutely right; my goal is not to make light of it. My point was that many of the patients that think they have RLS don't have the real and more difficult version of it (which you might have.); most have aching legs that can cause some movement, in my experience. For the people that truly do have it, it is very serious!

    Isn't this a neural (neurologically)-based condition actually?
I'm one of the unfortunate ones that suffer from it... And moving the leg a lot when I start to feel it (usually during the night but in a rare occasion in the daytime as well) relieves it. The feeling is like there is something in your leg (usually for me it's the left leg, higher than the knee, in the muscle), which is not painful but you cannot keep the leg still because you would go crazy, and doing something like squat in a lying position (for lack of a better description) relieves this feeling (but you have to do it maybe fifty times in a row...). There are times when I am able to sleep deeply and I don't experience it, but not always and not regularly. (Btw, I experienced the symptoms even before I ever heard that it was an actual diagnosis).
I think that if I do exercise like swimming during the day, I am able to sleep better. Maybe it's got something to do with the muscles...? Even though I understand that it's actually neurological. (To better understand it, consider that some people who had an amputation of a limb feel 'phantom pain' of that limb, some time immediately following the amputation... before their brain adjusts to the fact that that limb no longer exists).
I will try your tips, thank you 🙂

    This guy is wrong
    It’s a hereditary condition….
It’s not pain, it’s an annoying feeling inside your body that makes your legs and sometimes chest and arms want to move.
While some of this could help, medications work but only for so long. Heat does work for a bit…but believe me, this is a horrible thing to deal with.

So while I emphasize with your discomfort, I have many patients come in calling it "restless leg syndrome", maybe incorrectly, maybe correctly. But I can tell you In 95% of these cases doing these things it gets much better. In most of these cases while there may be extra stuff going on, I see rapid and predictable relief of people's night time pain or discomfort. Whether we call it restless less syndrome or peripheral neuropathy or something else, this is how most of my patients self identify their pain as.

I play basketball, exercise, walk, and as soon as I sit down, it starts. Large meals, red wine also trigger it.
I having been taking Ropinirole for 12 years and seems to at least allow me a good night sleep..
I also noticed when I am sick, with high fever, I have no RLS symptoms. So heat or body heat may mean something. My mother also has it…it’s a daily fight

Specifically in these cases I see that the tighter/more sore muscles correlate with "post static dyskinesia", in these cases imbalances overload certain muscles, leading to less blood motion while resting, thus the tissues can swell and stretch the small C-fiber nerve endings leading to pain. With proper assessment, offloading, massage and preventing the new, pain, I do see the pain rapidly improve for most people.
