    Just a friendly reminder with paddle board leashes: you and your leash need to be able to separate quickly in case your leash snags on something on the bottom of moving water (rivers mostly) so that it doesn’t pull you under and make you drown

      Absolutely! Thanks for the important comment.
      A quick release leash is a must for any rivers or fast moving water. I talk a little more in depth about that in this safety video ua-cam.com/video/8fKEK_1eQWg/v-deo.htmlsi=mnjHEr0AA9bKt314

    Thanks for the video. I went yesterday for the very first time, went with a group. I was surprised at 90% of them sat or kneeled on the board almost the entire time. I was able to stand and I will practice that more but the reality is that I was shocked to learn that you don't have to stand and it's just another way to do it but no better no worse.

    Hi! So I just got a paddle board as a graduation gift. I’m a girl whose around 250lbs. I’ve been watching a lot of videos on YT about beginner paddle boarding. Do you have any advice for me? Do I wear a swimsuit or other clothes in the water?

    • @PaddleAdventurer
      @PaddleAdventurer  Рік тому +7

      Hi Heidi! Thanks for watching and reaching out. Congratulations on the new board and hobby! 🙌🏼
      The top two things are to be safe and have fun! Check out some safety videos for gear, reading winds, water temperatures etc. The full video for the top 5 common beginner mistakes has more details and tips. You can watch it here: ua-cam.com/video/PEims8KR9Rg/v-deo.html
      I have lots more resources on my UA-cam Channel and blog too.
      Don't stress about who is watching or what you look like. If you've watched some of my other stuff, I love to goof around, wear funny hats, just be me, and have fun out on the water. Don't feel you have to stand or do anything specific. Paddle boarding is whatever you want it to be!
      As for what to wear. Always dress for the water temperatures. If it's warmer water and weather be sure you're protecting yourself from the elements.
      Beyond that, wear what you're comfortable with!
      I hope this helps and please reach out with any other questions.
      Have the best time out on the water! 🤙🏼

      Depending on where you live having a PFD or lifejacket might be a legal requirement; in Canada it is.

    What are common laws and regulations ?

    • @PaddleAdventurer
      @PaddleAdventurer  3 місяці тому +1

      Depends on where you are paddling. For Canadian laws check out this video ua-cam.com/video/8fKEK_1eQWg/v-deo.htmlsi=S6BT0o8-qisft8ka
      Some lakes in the national parks also have regulations to prevent cross contamination. Regardless, wash, clean and dry between lakes/oceans is good practice.

    Are you using an app to check the weather conditions?

    • @PaddleAdventurer
      @PaddleAdventurer  Рік тому +2

      Yes! I use a general weather app to check overall conditions but I also use a specific app for wind speed & direction as well as swell. And if you live somewhere with tides & currents you'll need to check that too.
      Often apps will combine some of these and I find some work better than others in certain areas.
      I talk a little bit about it in the long form of this video here:
      ua-cam.com/video/PEims8KR9Rg/v-deo.html

      I personally think it's always a good idea to have a PFD as unexpected things can happen and in some places, like Canada, it's required by law. ua-cam.com/video/8fKEK_1eQWg/v-deo.htmlsi=pqFoQ32H1xzVmqNX

    You should paddle in a c if you need to turn sharply. You're assuming people need to always go straight.

    • @PaddleAdventurer
      @PaddleAdventurer  3 місяці тому +1

      If you need to turn sharply a pivot turn is best and is lots of fun to practice. I wouldn’t say that’s a beginner stroke. Most beginners struggle going straight vs slightly being able to turn.
