oh man i'm two months post op now and i agree on so many of these points. particularly the t-rex bit. not only was wiping difficult, but washing hair was near impossible when i couldn't lift my hands up above my shoulders. and i'm still struggling to wash my back. i've got a stepping stool still around my apartment because i've got really high cabinets that i couldn't even reach the bottom shelf of until about a month after surgery. also had both nipples survive, so high five on nipple survival! my left one caused me the most discomfort and pain out of the entire ordeal, though. had a messed up stitch that irritated my skin and pulled. for the week before getting the bandages and drains off i'd have the occasional time when this agonizing pain would shoot through my chest on that side. was absolutely terrifying, but there wasn't any blood coming through the bandage or drains, so my doctor said it's fine. never had that feeling again after he removed the stitch when taking off the dressings. left a small gap on one side of the nipple that turned into a nasty scar, though. left nipple was a bit of an asshole.
IM REALLY REALLY JEALOUS. I WANT T AND TOP SURGERY, ALSO PEOPLE USING RIGHT NAME AND PRONOUNS. It's been like a little over a year over since I've come out, but I want all these things so quickly I guess.
There's something that not many trans guys talk about and it's like, did you feel a sense of loss? I'm worried that, while I want to look male, I feel like getting rid of this part of me that's been here my whole life will be both overwhelming relieving AND scary. Like, I do not want to keep these at all, but was there a slight grieving process, or was it just happy the whole time?
Seeing Jamie gives me so much motivation. I am a trans guy too, so seeing him is just?? It kinda makes me want to cry out of happiness that I can one day look like I am supposed to. If he can do it, I can too, is what I feel when watching his content.
I remember watching this 5 years ago just before my surgery. I didn't feel too nervous about it until while on the way to the hospital. I disassociated hard for the first time. Thankfully it was gone after I woke up. There wasn't as much pain as I expected. Aspirin for the first week or so was enough. The worst part for me was being annoyed by the drains, T-rexing, and being itchy. If you have a bigger chest, "dog ears" in the corners is common, so a revision was needed. That was very minor compared to the initial surgery. It was worth it.

Thank you for speaking honestly about your experiences transitioning FTM . I've heard a lot of negative stories concerning FTM top surgery specifically about the nipples and losing sensation in them which can never be regained . This scare has prevented a number of FTM's from getting top surgery thus, not becoming wholly transitioned because of this fear of losing sensitivity in their nipples. How did you deal with this issue and do you have full sensitivity back now? You've got a great smile and keep up the positive vibes you send out with each video, even when you speak about difficult personal subjects, you smile and end on a positive note. Which, by the way, I love your tattoos! You must be a musician. ..is that a silent practice drumset i see in the background? One of the instruments I play is the drums. Serious acoustic drummer ~
If you're looking for that perfect time to come out, I have to let you know something. It's not going to happen. There is never no "perfect" time, you have to make a perfect time for yourself. You have to think about how many years you want to spend being yourself and how many years you want to spend being upset with yourself and being dysphoric. You just have to get in that kind of "screw it" mindset. The day I came out, I wasn't fully prepared for it either. I just felt that mentality of "screw it, I am me and I need to start being happier." Good luck, I hope this helped a bit.
LHplayzmc there isn't a perfect time. Just come out to your closest friend or family member first. If they aren't supportive, try to convince them or get them to understand. You'll get more confident as you go along if you're like me
This is good for me to think about! I've had a friend have top surgery and haven't heard a lot about the downsides except what they said to me. I'm hopefully getting surgery in a few months, so this is super helpful!
It's so nice to have these vids to look back on, especially knowing how great your chest looks now! (I have my surgery in 21 days!!!) Now I'm kinda, weirdly curious about how pink your scars can get these days (just bc you mentioned here that they get pinker in heat)
I was able to feel the difference in my chest when I rubbed my dressings post op. It felt right, unlike if I were to rub my chest with a binder pre op. For me it was super painful, but one of my drains came out just enough to stop the suction it required and my dad had to push the tube back in (as directed over the phone by the doctor). And the blood from that side had coagulated so when it started draining again we had to put peroxide in the bulb to brake down the globs. Oh and the stitches that succured the tubes to my body kept pulling at my arm pit hair. I suggest guys shave their pits before surgery.
I like your videos because you don't leave out the gross stuff. you actually give us a good idea of what to expect so we're not freaked out when the day comes.
my expectations and the realities are very similar to what you described. I've healed much faster though thanks to ASEA though. That stuff I'd amazing and I highly recommend using it for anyone is going to have surgery or has had surgery, it works on old scars as well. I was skeptical about it but my fiance's mom sells it and after my top surgery she kept supplying me with some whenever she could, it made a huge difference. Anyway, I really related to this video and wanted to say how much I liked it.
I’m rewatching this after having had my own top surgery 2 weeks ago, and having fun with how some things turned out totally opposite for me after I used Jamie’s video for research 😄
I get so nervous for top surgery sometimes, like I worry that after I get it my brain will be like "jk I pranked you!! You don't have dysphoria!!!" Like I know that's irrational but anxiety is anxiety 😭
I'm in communication with a clinic for top surgery right now and I'll hopefully get it booked in the next few months. I'm so excited and I really hope I get good results like you. I didn't know nipples could fall off after surgery and now I'm a bit scared, tbh
Tomorrow is my one week post-op and I'm expecting gnarly bruises and grossness, but I'm excited as hell tbh. I'm gonna get these dang drains out and finally see how I look- I haven't even been able to picture how I'll look post surgery, all I've ever been able to picture is just the vague shape of me in a binder, and I can already tell I'm flatter than than. I went back and forth sooo much about whether to get grafts too, so I'm really curious to see how my nips turned out. It's gonna be awesome, I'm really excited
As someone who has alot of surgical scars (not on my chest, but various surgical scars from all ages of my life) the fact that some parts are pinker than others is normal and over time they will continue to fade and fade thought it can take a really long time, but they may still always change colour slightly differently from the rest of the skin in the area.
Hi Jamie, thanks for all the info. Most videos don't go into the unexpected side effects of transitioning. People need to be informed. One thing I haven't heard about is if nipples are permanently numb. I would assume so. Thanks for putting yourself out there for everyone to learn from!
Whoop first person. Also I love his videos. This was very helpful. I'm sure people would watch this with out knowing this and in sure helped someone majorly this is a very good video:)
I'm scared to get surgery, but considering my chest causes me actual physical pain, I may as well try to prepare myself the best I can for it when it does eventually happen
I'm 2 weeks post op and I RELATE so much to the tapes removal, it was honestly more painful than drain and stitches removal (they didn't hurt at all). Fortunately, I ask the nurses to use a little alcohol to remove the drain tapes so remember to ask your nurses to apply a little alcohol when you remove the tapes or if you can do it yourself slowly, helps a lot when you have sensitive skin or a lot of hair
Hey Jamie, love the video! How long did it take you to recover in terms of getting up and moving/going to work/day to day things? Really needed this :)
I'd like to see a beard timeline video since I don't get misgendered half the time now that my chest is flat but I get cold easily and have to wear a jacket at work and I'm like look I've got an amazing chest and you still misgender me due to my stubble growing at the pace of a snail walking up an extremely long driveway
lane bøy Not weird, helpful...I've got perhaps an even better suggestion...Hard Candy makes a brow gel with fibers called Brows Now! There are other brands that make fiber enhanced brow gels, but I like this one best. For years I filled my brows with powder but since fiber based gels I haven't turned back. I was born female and identify as such, so by today's terms I guess I'm "cis"...however I'm kinda lacking in the boob department...so to the FTM 's out there, I'd gladly take the unwanted boobage, lol 😉
My surgery is planned for around my birthday in February, but the kind of incision im having isn't exactly typical for trans guts. Its a double incision that connects in the middle so .. not exactly double at all. Its going to go from under my arms to the same part on the other side. Does anyone know what differences the healing would be? My surgeon doesn't normally do this so he didn't really know what to say, I would be his 2nd trans guy having the surgery not go in the most common way (due to large large breasts) If anyone has had the surgery like that or knows anything it would be extremely helpful
I'm always curious to hear more about things like this, so thanks for sharing your story. Also you are ridiculously handsome. Just throwing that in there.
I may be 4 years late to this video but I'm newly realising I'm nonbinary, and top surgery is looking more and more enticing ... I have a binder (gc2b brand so it should be safe?) In the mail arriving soon. I'm terrified that I might want this but I also am excited that I could get this done. I'm so conflicted! It looks wonderful and I don't mind the idea of scars. Damn. OH MY GOD!!! You're TRANS??!!!? I would never had guessed. Like I'm really shocked rn😂😂
April Dae Showers there's a buzzfeed video about him :)
Why are you shocked?
+Ashton they assumed he was cis I guess
Yeah but why is she so surprised? Most trans guys look about as masculine as he does.
Jake English Yeah, I thought cis.
You were the first trans guy I had ever heard of and you helped me realize that I am trans. I'm still completely closeted, but I'm working on it. :)
He is so beautiful!
Great and important video!
I'm scared to get surgery, but considering my chest causes me actual physical pain, I may as well try to prepare myself the best I can for it when it does eventually happen
I had top surgery almost five weeks ago and I still have to wear the post-op binder for another week 24/7 and then another 6 weeks 12 hours a day.
congrats!
I can’t wait to get top surgery, in 5 months I can finally start the process of getting top surgery
im getting top surgery in 16 days and god- videos like this are so helpful. thank you :)
Omg I saw you on Buzzfeed!! And finally you were on My recommended. God you are so handsome!! Great channel subscribed!
Get top surgery in the summer!
I'm going for my top surgery consult in February and it's nice to hear the positive and negative sides of it
Well you're definitely honest I'll give you that, I can't wait for mine I hope its soon!!! But not being able to shower will be a hard one for me
as someone who just had too surgery, the post-op binder is the bane of my existence
Hey Jamie, love the video! How long did it take you to recover in terms of getting up and moving/going to work/day to day things? Really needed this :)
I'm willing to bath my fiance but I'm wiping no one
Thank you for sharing your experience.
^-^ You have such a charming personality.
There is no way you weren't physically born a male 😮 You look so good dude
i can't wait to transition in roughly 7 years. im most eager for testosterone and top surgery
0:48 OMG HE HAS THE GONE SERIES!!!
Well that's a scary thought... Nipples falling off... Well I learned me new stuff.
why do you have to wear a post op binder? do you have to wear it all thr time
It's for compression, helps with swelling etc. and yes for 2 weeks after surgery I had to wear it 24/7, although I could take occasional short breaks.
you're a beautiful guy, hugs from brazil
ive enjoyed your videos, but i saw the gone series in the background on your book shelf! nice!
IM GETTING MY FIRST BINDER SOON ME AND MY MOM JUST ORDERED IT
So what can you do for the smell/cleanliness then? I didn't consider that smell would be an issue
@Maverick Lanzerotti thank you
This guy is hot. Good job, I'm glad that you decided to do something so scary!
YOUR FABULOUS!!!!!
I'm FTM too!!!!!
You’re video are funny and makes it less worrisome when we get surgery and aftercare
This video was incredibly helpful. Thank you!
you posted this video on my birthday! cheers!
I was born female and identify as such, so by today's terms I guess I'm "cis"...however I'm kinda lacking in the boob department...so to the FTM 's out there, I'd gladly take the unwanted boobage, lol
😉
Oh wow! This is so interesting... the more you know! :D
i'm binge watching all of your videos
My surgery is planned for around my birthday in February, but the kind of incision im having isn't exactly typical for trans guts. Its a double incision that connects in the middle so .. not exactly double at all. Its going to go from under my arms to the same part on the other side. Does anyone know what differences the healing would be? My surgeon doesn't normally do this so he didn't really know what to say, I would be his 2nd trans guy having the surgery not go in the most common way (due to large large breasts)
If anyone has had the surgery like that or knows anything it would be extremely helpful
How did it go?
I'm always curious to hear more about things like this, so thanks for sharing your story. Also you are ridiculously handsome. Just throwing that in there.
You always make me laugh 😂 So happy for you. Weren't you featured on buzzfeed?
Haha awesome :P I was, yes
I may be 4 years late to this video but I'm newly realising I'm nonbinary, and top surgery is looking more and more enticing ... I have a binder (gc2b brand so it should be safe?) In the mail arriving soon. I'm terrified that I might want this but I also am excited that I could get this done. I'm so conflicted! It looks wonderful and I don't mind the idea of scars. Damn. Better start saving up just in case...
