This is really, really good, particularly John's solo after the first verse. As with many long-time Deadheads, I can't get over how well Mayer is fitting in. Very much looking forward to the two shows in Boulder in July about 2 miles from my house. : )
from the perspective of a new-age dead head, I was surprised when I heard mayer's name in their lineup. However, I think Mayer is like us and gets that feeling, you know, the chills up your spine. He loves the music just as much as we do, and respects the dead just the same as well, it certainly shows.
Looking forward to the show at the Gorge after hearing this--very enjoyable. More importantly, they are taking some chances and pushing the music forward. Might do Sacramento and Shoreline as well. Oteil! love that guy,
Combo of some of my favorite things. Dead & JM. As a guitar player I knew how special he was before he was famous and I was surrounded by teen girls at his shows like wtf? Is there nobody else besides these teens that know what a nasty guitarist he is? This is tasty! Tho vocally it's a little sour. I also LOVE seeing Trey play with the core 4! It's like instant euphoria 👍🏻
Eyes is the only song Mayer seems to struggle with, particularly in terms of repetition and nailing the various vocals-to-bridge clues. Bobby's no help in this case ;-) Still a hot version.
As much as I love the Grateful Dead and Dead and Company, I must say Bob Weir's guitar playing just leaves me cold. I dunno. I just don't appreciate it. It's like he is doodling. Look I love the Dead, but just had to say that. I am sure this comment will generate a ton of comments.
+Jeff Chandler Don't you hate that? could be many reasons. I'm a huge Weir-o-phile and I've trained myself over 40+ years to pick him out clearly. There's a lot of Dead shows on archive, org that have Bob mixed prominently, very satisfying to listen to........
+Jeff Chandler Extraordinary guitarist. I really think in the early years, Garcia and Lesh so intimidated him he kept himself low in the mix. Of course, later, Healy virtually erased him in the P.A. and the live recordings, which led to him getting fired (justifiably). If you've seen "The Other One....." the new documentary about Weir, you'll see many prominent musicians pay tribute to Weir and attest how he influenced their styles. Some-one, can't remember who, shows how Garcia relied heavily on Bob to "frame" the music, and there's accompanying video footage of Garcia staring intently at Weir's fingerings as they work through a red-hot Shakedown.
John Mayer has always been a top guitarist and I'm glad everyone is now tuning in
that first fill in the chorus gives chills
Can never hear enough of this song.
New respect for John Mayer after hearing these new recordings
John is having so much fun!
Mayer is so living in this song it's like he doesn't want to stop!! Thanks for posting!
Two Years Ago Today. My Favorite Song. Very Close to the View we had during Second Set.
That bass player is a beast.
Oteil Burbridge (originally from The Allman Brothers Band)
amazing version of an amazing song
This sounds great. Nice bass solo during Eyes.
+Dennis Campbell Oteil is THE man.
Love this, have watched it many times. Go John!

+John Lorenz Ill be there too!

whoever thumbs down this video.... shame on you.
good lord! i will never say one bad thing about mayer again. WOW!!!
This footage made my day. Thanks for posting.
There you go. Keep that lens right on Bob. Thanks, Connor Holleb.

awesome man, thanks for sharing
Good god!
Thanks!
Jeff is the best keyboard player they have ever had. He almost plays on the level of Glenn Gould, almost.
Eyes > LIG > Terrapin...what a show!
John's catching on nicely!

he should go away and the dead has been done since 95
wings a mile long, indeed.
It ain't Jerry...but that don't mean it isn't awesome. Damn fine.
Where when?
LET JEFF SING!!

Nice performance - LOVE the song (always have) - but the video makes me seasick. Thanks for posting, though - I can look away and still hear it...
It's not the same as the old Dead, you can't really expect them to2
Mayer should just sing every song. End of story!
+Mike Williams I don't know about EVERY song, but I would like to hear him sing more than he does.
What night was this?
Saint Louis 11/20
+Connor Holleb Thanks.
They are great but not as much life as the Grateful Dead

I love them too but I honestly agree with you. His vocals have also teetered off. Still remains one of my favorite players of all time!
Just because you don’t understand it, don’t make it wrong.
Truth is I have noticed I too
On his worst day he plays better than me
why is Bob always so low in the mix????

+Tony Danis he's brilliant, but yet modest. wonder if it's his desire to be so low.

Great music, but OOMPA LOOMPA COLORING!!!
not the same, guess how could it be
because it NOT THE DEAD. Its some teenybopper with an audience of kids who never were part of the scene cause they weren't born
Is it just me or does John Mayer dance like a total dork?
+M Hughes its you!! This is a concert not a dance...hope that helped..
It is humorous to see how some musicians move their body while playing. Some are smoother than others but his playing is pretty damn smooth.
Well, he's white
Wait till you see how deadheads dance
Missing Donna.
Yes we need that wail
