      With all due respect, your video is just misinformation. AI art generators do NOT copy and mesh existing artworks together, it is simply impossible, there would be literal petabytes of data to copy from. What they do is they learn to recognize patterns, shapes, colors, and other features present in the images and associated datatags and then recreate them from noise (in case of diffusion models, GANs are a bit different). So its a common and very pervasive myth that AI image generators just cut, copy and paste from pre-existing images. They DONT and it would be extremely hard for them to do that as they'd have to have directly memorize millions of image. (one exception is overfitting, but thats a super technical detail).
      Please, you have a large platform, you have a lot of viewers, you have a great responsibility to tell them the truth, to proof-read your scripts so that you would not be translating misinformation. Please, do that.

      It's not just age that's the problem. It's lobbying and lack of accountability. There's plenty of young fascists and neo-liberals in government and there always will be as long as corporations are allowed to fund them. • @RoseEyed
      @RoseEyed 2 місяці тому +7

      Also the act of dealing with the block usually helps you learn and come up with more ideas. Random example: When Pixar was writing "Inside Out" the lead writers got stuck on what to center the story on regarding Joy and Sadness' relationship. It was bad. It got to the point one of the lead writers went for a long hike in the forrest alone to blow off his frustration and pain. And it was only THROUGH DOING THAT that he realized what's always helped him when he's lost is being comforted by others, and that that comfort was a direct result of him expressing/feeling sadness.
      The man literally lived out one of the most pivotal moments of the story in real time BECAUSE HE WAS STUCK ON THE STORY, which then led him to being able to include it IN the story in what turned out to be a (clearly) VERY impactful scene/lesson for audiences.
      Now imagine losing all that because your go-to was from using an AI prompt...

      In the end, all of that AI bs only exists thanks to artists creating amazing artwork. Keep pursuing art, it's a form of self-expression after all! Real art is far more valuable, and sooner or later people will come to the realization that art is becoming rare and is far more significant than AI. Eventually people will get bored of playing with AI, and will want to see real art again
      Regardless of what society is doing, keep doing you! What matters is the joy you get out of creating something. There will always be people who value your work, and who can truly see your efforts. Art has meaning, it has that flavor, the touch and soul of its creator, and all of those cannot be found in AI. As artists, we are far more superior than AI, we have absolute control over the process, we can do whatever the heck we want, and create incredible pieces that AI can never make. Art is unique, every artist has their own way of drawing, and it's always so mesmerizing to see what a human can create. Bringing life to your imagination and essentially transferring it into the real world is probably the best thing about art, that's what makes it so special
      AI is deeply flawed, but its flaws are not the same as human flaws. Human flaws are what makes us real, what makes us human, what makes us imperfect. AI flaws are simply caused by the limitation of its technical abilities, such as creating weird artifacts, being inconsistent, etc.

      While I'm very frightened as fellow artist, there's some pictures that give me hope, like my sister likes to use it for ideas. She never posts those online, she only sends them to me and talks about the stories she's using them with, and I realized with the most recent ones she sent me last week that while they looked really good, they had issues only AI would! Like a freaky ear, and sideburn that turned into the line for the jaw, and a shadow that didn't match the rest of the photo or fit the form of the sleeve! All on the same picture! And another one where this beard turned into a weird snake shape, there was a random white cloth looking thing that didn't even match the style, and the hairline for the guy's was weirdly messed up. And then there was a profile of a wolf where the light didn't make the most sense, but where the AI obvious part comes in was the drastic change in quality from perfectly painted fur to completely flat. I know these are on probably a lower-end AI compared to a lot of other stuff, but it's still nice to have something like that to hang onto. And the fact that it will never perfectly represent people's ideas, and that a lot of AI image generators have to choose between a profile for a good face, or a messed up one with a full body pic!
      AI also really doesn't do well with more cartoony styles or emotions yet, so that other stuff makes me hopeful. A robot can't put meaning into anything the same way a person does. AI COULDN'T POSSIBLY REPLICATE ANYTHING LIKE THE SPIDERVERSE MOVIES! IT'S TOO COMPLICATED! 😁 The craziest stuff with the craziest colors and abstract thoughts, and imperfect lines (I don't really count sketching in that), the stuff that shows off the most meaning and purpose is something that AI just won't be capable of handling right now.
      So there's a few facts to lift your spirits! Robots just can't compare creatively with humans, it's impossible. And if worst comes to worst, there's enough passionate artists around the world to just freaking riot if need be. The internet is a powerful place. Genuinely, you could call together a bunch of people to create their own animated series in free time over the course of a few years, who knows??

      Teaching about AI in classes? Excuse me, what? What is there to teach about AI? It's the same thing as teaching someone how to use MS paint or the notepad. It's not that complicated, and it's definitely not going to do any good if it's taught in an ART college. This is ridiculous. AI is the farthest thing from art, how is that even a conversation in the first place????
      I absolutely support the decision to keep doing what you do. AI is replacable and is just a new toy for people to play with, they will get bored of it eventually. Human art has no replacement, it's still one of the most valuable things to exist till this day. Paintings, architecture, commissions, music, writing, design, cartoons and animated movies, all of that is intellectual property and is protected by copyright and/or authorship. It's incredibly high in need and art is pretty expensive. It's a luxury that we see around us everyday in every corner of our world, while being easily accessable at the same time. So many things around us are created by artists (including photographers, whom I also consider artists to a degree depending on what they do), and if artists didn't exist, neither would AI. The world would be so boring without art, and the more artists give up, the less amazing art there is to be made. Only we can overshadow AI if we pursue our art, otherwise it will just be filled with AI if artists give up creating

    • @DeadVoxel
      @DeadVoxel 2 місяці тому +2

      Art is a journey, a journey is full of mistakes, that's how we learn and improve. You can't make constant masterpieces if you don't let yourself fail. Even professionals don't make constant masterpieces, nobody can. To the viewer every piece of theirs may be a masterpiece, but that is the fascinations that come from those who look up to the artist, or find their work impressive. Artists are extremely self-critical, and the work that they find flawed may be a masterpiece to someone else. So really, maybe there are people out there who find all of your work fascinating?
      You may never be satisfied with your artwork, or create the ultimate masterpiece that has no flaws whatsoever. So why chase after perfection? It'll burn you out very quickly, and it is basically an impossible goal to achieve. As humans we are all flawed, that's what makes us human. Same with art. Mistakes are beautiful, and unsuccessful attempts are also part of the process, part of art experience. At least when you see a mistake, you can learn from it and avoid it next time you draw. Growth and improvement are fascinating, and it's always so fun to watch your progress as you get better and better at art. Looking back at your old drawings will make you go: "Damn, I grew so much and I draw so much better now, this is incredible progress". Which is why making mistakes is so important, otherwise you will never have that opportunity to compare your growth
      Edit: Also, don't be brought down by seeing "perfect" artwork of other artists. People always post their best results, and never the millions of failed attempts, unfinished works, and struggles of redrawing the same thing over and over again until you get it right. Everyone goes through that

    I am an animation student and I've decided to change my major after all this controversy. I don't think animators are going to fully disappear but at this rate, this tool keeps improving by day and we have no idea how precise it is going to get. So I do believe a lot of creative positions are gonna be removed and replaced with AI. A few animators will still be able to make a living out of it for clean ups and storyboards but it is going to become extremely difficult 3 to 5 years from now. This shouldn't only scare artists, this is a concern for everybody who consumes media.

  • @RoseEyed
    @RoseEyed 2 місяці тому +8

    For me, "creativity" is just a mask for larger issues: the fixation of hyper-consumption over the act of creating. This is a problem with how we live in general--we don't buy or make things to last. We make them to be replaced. But now it's bleeding into things we do to distract ourselves or relax: pictures, videos, music, channels. And a lot of the benefits that come from creating get lost in the process.
    Using drawing as an example. I don't draw just to look at cool images. I do it to express myself, vent, relax, THINK. And while drawing, I'm improving my hand-eye coordination, my memory, knowledge of the world and my own body (to learn how to make things realistically). In doing that I can interact with people, come up with even more ideas and concepts that lead to even more eclectic skills in a feedback loop. All of that is lost if you're only typing some words and having a computer do the rest for you.
    That's not even getting into writing, which helps you to refine, integrate, and process information. (Writing and talking about things in your own voice is how you internalize information--"You don't truly understand something until you can explain it to someone else.") I'm not opposed to AI being involved in these things all together, but an OVERUSE/RELIANCE on them will have negative impacts. We already have young people who can't read because they've spent their whole life on their phones, who use TikTok for medical information. What's gonna happen to kids growing up with this?

    • @DeadVoxel
      @DeadVoxel 2 місяці тому +2

      The world is just descending into an absolute collapse honestly. AI can be used for good reasons, but... Making it part of creation (not speaking about references or anything, I mean actually using AI in the drawing) honestly defeats the whole point of art, and with how AI is made (i.e. gathering a database from real artists' work) I doubt it's very ethical either way. It's hard to make good and positive use of AI when it comes to art
      I do completely agree with what you said regarding everything else. It's like we don't even want to think or try anymore, making efforts is just beyond this society apparently. People only look at the final result, or the final product in case of AI. But those who know nothing about art can't comprehend the concept of art not being JUST about the outcome and the image. Which is probably why people use AI, I'm sure. I've seen so many people say that AI can be considered art and it's like... What? Do they really not know what art is about? Some people even say that AI is much better than real art. Or that apparently, speeding up the process by using AI and making "art" in 5 minutes is somehow more convenient than creating art from scratch, essentially implying that all of that work is unnecessary when you can just use AI. I've even heard takes where people say that it makes art accessable to everyone. Or that somehow spending an hour to refine an AI image is just as valid of an effort as spending an hour to draw an image from the beginning? Or that magically AI makes you an artist??? Like, these people are clearly missing the point, it's hilarious

    • @RoseEyed

      @@DeadVoxelIt really is causing a disconnect between me and other people when it comes to what we use media for. How'd it change and why? What was a massive breakthrough for them? How many pep-talks from friends, insights from unrelated conversations, and notes in the middle of the night caused this?
      Wow... This person seems to understand people so well? They've been through some shit. Or I can tell they're sad sad/happy/processing from this story they CHOSE to write and how they chose to write it.

      Honestly this is so concerning and I feel people aren't talking enough (or even thinking about) the huge negative effect gen AI media will have on culture and our brains. Over consumption, social media addiction and our need to be constantly stimulated is already a huge problem. Killing our attention span, ability to retain information and over all fucking up our mental health...
      Now imagine, social media companies have access to machines that can create a non stop flow of content with no humans necessary in the making of said content. Another weapon in their arsenal to keep your attention forever and ever. Ability to tweak and change the personalised content to influence you however they see fit (or however they're paid by outside forces, government companies whatever)
      Human creators or even humans wielding AI to make content, what chance do they have of being seen? Unless they have the capital to push their content on those platforms.
      And nobody will care to question it. Even if they do, we're too addicted to our phones/tech/social media to put it down. People will stop caring and just hand over their freedom.

    I think the biggest issue with CREATIVE AI is that it removes all effort. Say I want to make music. Something like Garage Band is a tool I can use to make it rather than learning an instrument, but there is still a level of creativity and effort in making that tool assisted music. If I can just type "lofi with heavy piano" and get exactly that in MINUTES it's not being creative and there's no effort put into it. It has gone from something with passion into it to just...a thing that exists now, and that's both frightening and sad.

    Food for thought, For almost all of human history artist has never been a job that can sustain a person. It was and still is only the rarest exceptions where artists could feed themselves and their families by just producing art. Really, nothing has changed.
    The question that artists need to ask themselves is, "why are you an artist?" If it's to make money then sorry you're in the wrong field.
    Let me tell you a story...there is construction going on at my work. We have a grand piano in our lobby. One of the construction foreman over New Years Eve came down played a bunch of rock music on it for all of us from memory, which on a piano is very impressive. It was great and a fun wonderful little concert. My point is that this extremally talented man never was able to be a "successful" musician but now has a job that feeds his family and occasionally he shares his talent with strangers. An AI can never do that.

Well, my son loves it too, so when he found out that was also one of your favorites, he was over the moon. So i did, The only problem is it was sent straight from amazon, so he wasn't able to give you the letter he wrote explaining why he sent it and how much he loves your videos. One day, he was watching you, and he saw it in the background on your shelf with the other stuffed toys you have. When he seen that he was the happiest I have seen him in awhile. It was one of those things that was to good to be true. I have to admit I was stunned as well. He took his phone everywhere and showed any and everybody the video with the stuffed toy.
    The other day, he came up to me broken hearted, saying he doesn't think k you like his toy anymore because he hasn't seen it in any of your videos since then. He still watches you, but I can see the disappointment when the video plays and he doesn't see it.
    Idk if you will read this honestly, but if you do, for my son's sake, will you please put the grinch back up on the shelf just so he can see it and know you still have it and appreciate it.

    (This is long, MY BAD I have ALOT of thoughts)
    AI when used for creative works, genuinely terrifies me.
    I'm an artist, and one of the only guaranteed job careers out there IS art related. Character designs, full pieces, animation- all that is what I can do, but with AI used negatively, in a way where it rips our creativity away to feed to a machine that spits it out botched and mangled, seriously hurts.
    LIKE- I don't got many opportunities for jobs outside of art, due to my autism and potential ADHD- like maybe drama and voice acting? but those are VERY difficult to get into to begin with, so even then, if AI gets advanced enough to be used instead of humans, I and many other creators out there who mentally and physically cannot do other jobs we're not skilled in or find motivation to do, are at risk of earning legit nothing for our livelihoods.
    I can see AI being good for stuff that NEEDS it, say you make an AI that scours beaches to pick up litter, or just AI that can take over heavily taxing jobs that can leave a lasting scar on a human. So I see the potential that this technology had, but right now, people are abusing the ability of AI that it's literally risking many people's job opportunities.
    It's terrifying.

      It really feels that way. Creativity was the very last bit of humanity and nature we had left, now? Not even that. Personally, I will keep pursuing art as I do it for myself and for the people close to me. But the future of art and creation is looking very grim, especially for those poor souls that make money off of commissions as their last resort. Most people I've seen that use AI don't even know the struggles that artists have to go through, they know nothing about the creative process or the point of art, so they deem AI generated images as "art" because apparently, art is subjective so AI can be art. I'm at a loss of words honestly
      It's like these people want their entire life to consist of AI: sites, video games, images that they so adore that they probably have as their desktop wallpapers that were made by ACTUAL artists, but I guess they would rather have AI wallpapers then huh? All of their favorite games, movies, songs, content creators, books, I'm sure they wouldn't mind all of these things to be AI generated. Might as well let AI partake in architecture too, sculptures, clothing, house interior and exterior, even the very chair they use to also be designed by AI, why not? This is plain ridiculous

    What's fascinating and confusing about all this is that the mass use of AI proves how, on a fundamental level, humans crave/need more creative content - we want more art, music, videos, etc - we need it for communication and entertainment. And yet for decades artists have been so massively downplayed and, even before the AI boom, told that they're pursuing 'redundant' professions. With the billions of pieces being generated daily by AI, it doesn't seem like artists should ever have be called "redundant". I kind of get a bit of pep in my step from realising that even with billions of new AI pieces being made, people still want more. So I'll continue being an artist, knowing that people have an insatiable demand for art. Even if mine takes a bit longer.

Like... AI has the capacity not just to make stuff up, but to literally REWRITE history. Fake WW2 videos, fake photos from the Victorian era, fake stories about ancient civilizations. It's so, so out of hand. And seeing that made me realise that danger extends to literally everything AI can get its hands on. It's... unsettling. It almost feels like a non-issue to bring up the problem of historical misinformation compared to how it's affecting real, living people like that 14 year old girl, rest her soul. Up untill a decade ago, I was drawing small comics, both to learn to draw better and because I have a creative side that needs working out. Stopped drawing at all a decade ago due to bad life circumstances that drained my motivation. (Bullying at school, bad home situation, stuff like that). When New Years came around this year I made myself the promise of picking up the pieces and relearning how to draw again, and start making webcomics. Unfortunately, because of all this AI dreck that's been happening, I honestly lost al motivitian again to draw or be creative, and I just don't know if it's still worth it for me to try again. Doesn't feel that way anymore.

    I think there r some ways in which ai can be used to better enhance and simplify a creative process while still maintaining creative freedom for the creators. A good example of this is with rotoscope animation, where there were these UA-camrs (whose clip u featured in ur vid) essentially made an anime short partially animated by ai, however the art style and prompt itself wasn’t done by ai but was instead of actual anime art from Castlevania. So things like this being implemented more in animation, as long as there’s no copyright infringement I wouldn’t hv a problem with due to the fact it still uses art made by actual artists in the process it just simply traces the 2D art onto actual actors using ai. Which personally I think is cool and is just a neat advancement/tool that could be used in the field of animation. I don’t flat out think ai is bad or good, I do think that there should be rules boundaries and guidelines on how it’s used to not ruin the careers of talented creators.

    loved the video, but i feel that Anime Rock Paper Scissors isn't a fair example to use. The team at Corridor Digital spent around 2 months using A.I. to adjust footage they filmed in their studio on a green screen.

    Art has been my hobby for years now and AI becoming so huge has really affected my enjoyment of it. I still really like drawing but posting it or showing it to people isn't fun anymore.
    When I show something to my class like an animation that I worked my ass off for, I'll get asked or even accused of using AI! It's just really unfair
    I'm also a filmmaker student & really not sure if I should continue or find something else because I'm scared I won't be able to get a job if companies start using AI, instead of hiring actual people.

    One of the biggest things about AI that deeply irritates me is that it's a genuine threat that it will put tons of creatives out of work due to the sheer competition of instant gratification that comes with AI output, but when you look at things like all the manual labor jobs that nobody actually wants to commit to, AI can't do anything about it. You would think we would focus our efforts on making the hard parts of life easier and making time for things we enjoy, like art, but instead we're trying to improve machines to essentially trivialize creative work so we can continue to slave away doing mind numbing work for the majority of our lives. It's just absolutely nonsensical when you really look at it.

      This is not to say art was ever even a lucrative source of income, because for most artists it really never was. But now it's even worse than before, and it's just depressing to think that people who find meaning in life through art and want to build their lifestyle around it will struggle even harder just because the people behind modern technology don't know when to stop.

      maybe people should do things because they truly have an interest or passion for them and not to derive monetary gain from them

      @@mjgII You're missing the point. In an ideal world, we could do both at once, but it seems like the way the world is heading that isn't meant to be the case much anymore. We're meant to work miserable jobs in passionless career lines which suck away whatever time we would have had to dedicate ourselves to those passion projects. As the saying goes, time is money. A lot of people can't afford wasting that time.

    We're starting to see this trend in the translation industry as well. The number of companies opting to use terrible machine translations instead of paying real people to do a good job is growing rapidly and it's incredibly infuriating.

    if i pay an artist to make a design, and they come back with it, and i say, "its not exactly what i wanted, do it again or im not paying you", what then? some of us dont have enough money to pay someone to make a wallpaper for our phone, mr Pig.

Idk for how long I will be able to do what I'm doing right now and doing art is the only thing I know how to do. It's something I love doing and it brings me a lot of joy.
