- We pick up where we left you last episode. With more laminations to go, Tarkine starts to really look like a pilot cutter. Her bow now built up, fair and plumb, Matt makes the cutaway to really get her looking good.
The music in this episode is absolutely wonderful.
Yes..the sound score in this is deserving for an Oscar...sublime, deeply ethereal, dream like- who is your sound wizard?
The Laminated Stem looks fabulous you both did a great job the boat is taking more and more shape she's looks beautiful.
You guys are very clever, fantastic wood work, she’s a good looking boat.
Thank you so much! We really appreciate the kind and positive feedback!
Great video and a great job. It will be a nice looking and well built boat. Looking forward to the next episode. 😀🇸🇪
Oh thanks! We hope she will look nice enough! And glad our viewer are spread far and wide!
I appreciate your use of a Lazer to gain your water line and your perpendicular. Far better fairing than an eye balling and chainsaw cut. Which I have seen done. The very best to you and yours. I watch because I believe your boat is a true sailors dream.
very happy you two decided to document this build for all to see. thank you and continued best of luck to all.
Hi you 3...🎐I want thank you deeply, for witnesing your build has created a valuable shift in my view of my camper truck Tug. Thru your passionate filming, thru your in depth clearly stated explanations of each process, a new level of understanding has bloomed in my own view of Tugs potential to come more alive. Infinate appreciation flung into the wind to your build shed..for now I have a fresher appreciation for work ahead🎉 much love
That's such a lovely thing to say. Thank you we appreciate your words!
Thanks for sharing your adventure! It's a beautiful build! the music and how you are composing the episodes makes them very pleasant to watch, thank you. Muchos exitos!
Stem is looking fantastic
Thank you Paul!
Mate what a bloody great job your doing you should have more bloody views
Thanks for the recap Iefke 😊 boat's looking good!
What a beautiful piece of work that stem is, if ever I had the opportunity to have a boat it would be that one, you are both so skilled, thanks for the updates, good luck from the UK
Oh that’s great to hear we are not completely bias on the design and how much we love it. Good to know other people think she is worth bringing to life!
What a beautiful job that was, the carving is perfect! It’s interesting that you inlaid the fiberglass too, wow, I bet that was hard! Loved seeing the bottom, a lot of work left to do there, looks incredible though.
Yes boatbuilding takes some thought sometimes, we pondered the best way to lay the fibreglass and keep the wood safe and try for a while
SOOOO!! ROMANTIC!! THE SHAPE, THE MUSIC, THE WOOD LAMINATIONS, THE HULL DIAGONAL LINES, THE DESCRIPTION OF THE LABOUR YOU PUT IN, and the vision it creates IN MY!! MIND out on the OCEAN looking like a GALLEON and you two (dressed like Vikings) at the helm in a Southern Ocean, like I have witnessed to and from Campbell Is NZ in 1975/76 A BLOODYMAZING.
So satisfying to see the stem take shape. You 2 are doing a magnificent job. Great boat, nice editing, and excellent narration!
Cheers,
Bob
Thanks mate! It was one of those types of jobs that really transformed the boat and made her look more like she will float one day!
Thats one pretty looking stem! 😍😍
Looks great!
Great progress, thanks for the update 🙂
Thanks for watching!
Looking really good this far
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice video depicting how craftsmanship is being put to use..This was indeed a tedious lamination project …The end result is outstanding…
Love the background music..
Thanks for the great explanation of your work! We are no skilled boatbuilders but very interrested!
How's the dog and the chicken? We miss their presence in the film!
Beautiful boat
Thank you very much!
She’s looking great. Interesting how much the shaped stem adds to her overall look.
Hi David, thank you for watching. We agree, she looks a lot more like a proper boat all of a sudden.
Wow! What a fantastic milestone to get the finished shape of the stem onto the hull - Looks really nice! You are really building a high-end boat, cheering for you :)
Oh yes! Thanks and keep cheering us! Cheers!
Looks beautiful!
The boat is looking better and more beautiful every time I watch a video. You guys are amazing and a pleasure to watch🤘🤘
Thank you so much Oscar! The stem completed really added to her beauty.

Hi, I binge watched to catch up,a very worthwhile time, you are both doing a great job and I am pleased that I am now upto date.cheers Roly 🇬🇧.
What a beautiful thing she is! Thank you for sharing her! ❤
The stem looks great! Beautiful boat!!
Thanks George!
Amazing!!!!
You are a great team. It's so much fun to see you work together step by step. I wish you all the best
Thank you Kay for the kind words!
As you say the cutaway transformed the stem and it looks really beautiful. How far below the waterline did you go with it?
She's a looker! ... The hull ... and the missus 😉
I agree with everyone else. gr8 work
amazing
She is looking Amazing David Australia 🦘
Thanks! Good to know we’ve got some Australian followers!
Fair? I would call it above average.
Matt...what is your back ground.....are you a trained boat builder?
We started out as amateurs, never having build before but during the years building Tarkine Matt started, and managed to complete his boatbuilding apprenticeship.
@@Building_a_Boat_by_the_River fair enough....I'm liking the quality of the build...after watching Acorn to Arabella from start to now.....I'm looking forward to seeing Tarkine launch.....I'll be along for every episode....I'm not rich, just a hard working, over taxed, under paid Kiwi....so...if you ever decide to do t-shirts for fund raisers...count me in...as long as you have colours other than black, grey and white🙂
She's coming a long nicely. What's the Stem laminations made from?
Hi Marty! Thanks for the question, all timber used in our project has been Tasmanian timber so far. Also the stem is built out of Tasmanian hardwood. Eucalyptus.
@@Building_a_Boat_by_the_River Thats Tasmanian Oak then? (Don't know why they call it Oak hey?)
Commercial name is Tasmanian Oak. It covers a number of similar tasmanian "gum trees" eucaliptus regnas, eucalyptus oblique etc. Also known locally as swamp gum, stringy bark, blue gum etc.
What! No adze and broadaxe action on the stem. I don't know.....these modern new fanged tools! They make things easy these days. Routers and electric planes are epic and to make them with NO cord, who came up with THAT black magic!
Hi guys!! Will you cover the stem with a stainless steel sheet down to the lead keel?? On my seven meter wooden double ender I have three mm stainless sheet, covering the keel plank to the stern, and it protect the wood, which is not so strong athwart, as lengthwise....It protrudes a couple of mm on each side too.... Very good job you are doing, allda bestest from mikke in sweden...;-D
Should the stem below the square top fair 0:32 in to the hull.?
you should be wearing a mask
Thank you for watching and commenting David, we will keep trying to wear all the protection. Sometimes we get to excited and forget some.
