  • In Guatemala there is a silent crisis of abuse and child pregnancies robbing a generation of their youth.
Unreported World reveals the stories of the young indigenous girls forced into motherhood after being raped and sexually assaulted. Isolated girls are particularly vulnerable, with no phone signal, and no neighbours.
In 2020, an average of 13 girls aged 10-14 became pregnant through rape in Guatemala every day. The cries of these young girls go unheard, reporter Anja Popp explores how the justice system appears to be failing these girls and learns that only three per cent of reported sexual violence cases are investigated.
Some girls are abandoned by their family due to shame with a few pressured to live with their abusers. But there are a handful of people and organisations trying to make a difference and teach young girls to understand their bodies and resist the cycle of abuse.
This episode contains testimony around sexual violence you may find distressing.

I'll never understand why a man would look at a child in any other way than being a child. It's sickening and so unfair to these children. I really hope the government starts to prosecute these men for raping these children.

I would agree, any man who is going to participate in such activities should be put to death. I'm not a believer in the death penalty but that's what pedophiles deserve. You can't fix pedophiles, and we as a society should not have to worry about these perverts attacking our children, or keeping them comfortable in jail. There should be no exception, no matter how rich and powerful you are, if you have sex with children you die. Don't torture them, make it quick, but make sure it gets done. That's exactly how I feel, and I strongly believe most people feel the same way as well.

To break that cycle is to not only teach the girls but also start teaching the boys from a toddler how to treat girls and others with respect. retrain the military, they are committing crimes and should be held accountable for their actions. arm these girls and give them survival tactics. they are fighting for their lives.

And then we sit back, scratch our head trying to figure out what happened??? right!! We all know exactly what happened! but nobody wants or has courage to admit the f****** truth- cuz that would be too much of an (inconvenient truth) and would mean pulling the plug on everything that's cause this in the 1st place!! It’s the same with the bible. The bible is full of things about what is right and what is wrong. Yet. People still does wrong. The only people to blame. Is the person for not listening.

That last part at the very end - the little girl gave birth at home ten days before she was scheduled to have a cesarean delivery. How horrible that must have been for her! She’d heard all about how she’s too young to do it normally. She’d been told that she’d get anesthesia. There would be medical people all around her. Instead, the birth was thrust upon her unexpectedly... terrifyingly the birth attacked her in the same way as she endured the rape. This detail about her was a final gut punch ending

Who knows, apparently her body IS developed enough if she had her period early, and went through puberty earlier, to have the body capable of giving a natural birth. But go ahead and jump to conclusions that a 10 year old’s body is just not strong enough for doing something her body was biologically and specifically designed to do, just because of her age and YOUR assumption about her body development.
I know that. I’m very educated in OB care, I receive care under one right now, and I know very well of high risk OB care, I even know that an abortion is NOT the answer to a 10 year old’s pregnancy or any other high risk pregnancy. It is actually a scheduled c-section or medical induction at pre-term. Which she didn’t have either of, and natural birth was possible for her. As it had been possible for quite a few young girls around her age throughout history. Google it.
Yes, of course it would have been ideal to have an high risk pregnancy OB to supervise her care, many of us would have wanted that for her, but it turns out she did fine on her own in the end. She is not mentally and emotionally mature enough to be a mother to that child, that’s why independent adoption exists and what her community really needs is a pro-independent adoption society (and the US too, FOR SURE that needs to be the most accessible) and more resources for her that will allow her to be a mother if she desires. Pro-motherhood resources like high schools with a daycare program that we see in Texas would also do very well here, as we can already see something of the similar in this UA-cam video.

@@shinycrookedstars So you acknowledge that a child is obviously not mentally ready to become a mother herself but still think it's okay to have her give birth if she ever became pregnant, especially as a result of rape.
Briana, if you are as informed on this matter as you say you are, then you know that pregnancy and birth are not laughing matters, nor are they just "minor inconveniences." They are biological processes that are extremely burdensome on both the body and the mind, enough to the point where even they can be a source of psychological trauma, and there's even the potential threat of death for the mother.
Not to mention, the effects of pregnancy are already bad enough on the body of a fully grown woman, so you can rightfully conclude that the effects are made worse on the body of a little girl, given how underdeveloped it is.
All that said, here is the question that I have for you.
If girl was already severely traumatized after having been raped, wouldn't forcing her to go through nine months of pregnancy and then the excruciating process of birth only traumatize her further? Especially if you consider the fact that the birth would cause permanent damage to certain parts her body?

This video is a clear example of why all countries should provide equal access to healthcare, including abortion. As an SA victim I cannot emphasise enough the importance of having control of your own body and situation. I'm telling you that the reason people oppose abortion or limit it is because they don't want women to have control over their bodies. Banning abortion gives rapists power and simultaneously reduces the power of women. It also works to keep poor people in their place by ensuring they don't have access to education and employment opportunities. If women are continually pregnant, looking after kids and therefore not able to work, it gives the government and powerful men ultimate power to do whatever they like.

No, the reason people oppose abortion is because they oppose the murder of innocent developing children. Don’t try and twist it to suit your narrative. I’m all for women having control over their own bodies, but when they are pregnant - it’s not just their body.

@@rosegarden2014 because it never happens. For one it's hard to prove rape and another it's very invasive and traumatic for a victim to go through having a rape test done right after to prove it, then to go to court to see their abusers then most of the time not much ever happens anyways or threats are made on the woman to ever speak out against it. This is why so many dont ever report in the first place. Most barely get any type of jail time for their crime then you got to worry about them coming out after you afterwards. More needs to be done to protect victims in the first place and there needs harder convictions.

I'm not saying this on every single man, naturally, but there are bad apples on every category. Having abortion options for women, who had sex against their own will is only safety net at that to save woman from losing her youth for a terrible excuse of a human being that thought it was real funny to have sex with a minor.
Jesus said that a sinner can not judge a sinner. That so far is true, but it never forbid us from confining these terrible individuals away from society to think for their sins forcibly instead of voluntarily.

But if this rapist has children, should they also suffer for the actions of their father? 3 suggestions. 1) A special court that deals only with these rapes to get away with bribes and local friendships. 2) Chemical or other castration and have it publicized. The victims should not be the ones ostracised by the community OR by their families. 3) Financial support of the victims and their offspring.

The only people I feel sorry for are the girls/ women being raped. I don’t feel bad for the mothers that raise their sons to be rapists. I don’t feel bad for the fathers that raise their sons to be rapists. I don’t feel bad for the men and boys who are going around abusing their female neighbors and relatives and fellow citizens. I don’t feel bad for the community that refuses to sit down and give those boys and men a good scolding. These people could greatly reduce this problem simply by openly condemning this behavior and condemning the men and boys who behave this way. Men do not live on and island into themselves. They are dependent upon the support of their community. There is plenty of leverage against them, but no one wants to use it. Mothers don’t want to condemn their sons. Fathers don’t want to condemn their sons. And the men don’t want to condemn eachother. I think there is a similar problem in guinea or something. Young boys would rape their female classmates on their way to school. One day, one of the men in the men of the community simply condemned this behavior and the rape rate dropped significantly. These people aren’t even willing to condemn men to their face. Forget physical repercussion, forget about jail time. The men and women i the community aren’t even willing to verbalize condemnation. They aren’t raising their joys differently. They aren’t instilling discipline. Contrary to all of the helplessness that these people communicate there is nothing g helpless about them. They simply don’t want to have different expectations of their boys and men. And that is their fault. His is the classic case of mommies and daddies raising their sons with no discipline, no respect for feminine authority , and an over inflated sense of self. I don’t care how dirt poor these people are. Those men and boys are spoiled and entitled and it cause them to be monsters and terrorists.
