@@-FreeMiner- needle rifle holds more ammo, and doesn't require headshots being full auto also helps. The needle rifle does the DMR's job against brutes better than the DMR, but it's basically just a glorified ODST magnum everywhere else in the campaign
I'm assuming they're gonna save the blamite scavenged from the older covenant and use it more sparingly tbh, since there's no longer easy access with Cortana and Arby in the way of the moons

So while it was encountered as early as 2526, none of the survivors happened to grab a copy of it, so it went un-noted till years later. Same with the Needler, which also saw use in the CAMS assault, AND the Energy Sword too.
The Type-33 Needler was also used in 2526 as seen in Halo Forward Unto Dawn and was a common sight during the Ground battles of Harvest up until 2531. The Type system may simply be the year that ONI acquired sufficient information on a given Covenant Weapon despite the UNSC encountering such weapons or vehicles for years at that point. Spartans and UNSC personnel are often encouraged to acquire samples and technology for research.

I thought of a covenant grenade that should never exist, a needle grenade, spherical in shape, once armed you have three seconds, after it impacts a surface, needles pop out of many pores found on the grenade shooting in all directions. You can imagine the results by yourself.
I want the put the focus rifle stock on it then it would be my favorite looking carbine in Halo. There is also a soundpack on Nexus that make the needle rifle do an M1 Garand ping on reload too... It would also be great if we got lore accurate gore and gun effects in game.

I have an embarrassing thing to admit, I never knew the needle rifle was full auto. I just somehow assumed it was semi-auto and tap-fired it ever since. Oh my.
That probably made you more effective with it. As fun as full-auto was, it lost precision very quickly and wasn't really that much faster than what one could manage tap-firing.
From a game play standpoint its also rather weird. Its a covenant weapon that uses bloom, since CE bloom was a human weapon feature while spread was covenant, being only the second one along with the plasma repeater. its fully auto while being precision, only the third with the second being the ODST smg, and the first since CE magnum. It also shares the ability for its projectile to ricochet like fuel rod cannon or more similarly the sniper rifle.
This weapon has banished written all over it although I feel a brute varient would use red needles instead of standard purple and green. Also I realize minus people being blown apart this weapon sounds slightly more humane to use then the covenant carbine.
Probably my favourite small arm in the entire Haloverse At around 4:30 when you're talking about the mechanics of the crystalline explosive the engineering geek in me wants to say that when the resonant harmonics positively interfere with each other, they're not going to alter the resonant frequency of the material, which is fixed, they'll modify the amplitude of those harmonics which could be enough to cause explosive decomposition of the crystalline structure, i.e. the supercombine.
If you played Destiny you’d be running double scout rifles then 😂 (you’ll want to hopefully get a pair of high impact frame scout rifles to run with) xD Full on DMR in the next millennium xD If you can get to Mars and do the quests there before November 10, get the Braytech RWP MKII xD It’s a high impact, legendary scout rifle and not only does it look beautiful despite being actually just a WIP Polaris Lance scout (an exotic), but it also has a cool “pop” sound when you reload; kind of like popping the spent shell casings out of a shotgun I would imagine based on the appearance of shotgun shell casings and the look of the casings for the RWP
If anyone ever gets around to remaking halo as a new game like how RE2 and 3 were, it would be super awesome to add in gore effects that are consistent with the lore. Watching brutes and grunts getting splattered by the needler would be super satisfying. Same with plasma grenades just vaporizing whatever you stick them to.

To all the people saying that this weapon would not appear in Infinite due to Cortana monopolizing the only source of Blamite in the galaxy, do you really think that The Banished making synthetic Blamite and designing a new Needler and Needle Rifle to use that version of Blamite is impossible? In Halo Wars 2, we saw evidence that unlike the Covenant, there is innovation going on within the Banished's territory. Just take a look at the new toys the Banished wield, and also play the awakening the nightmare DLC, in it we found not only one but TWO Brutes who were innovators! With these factors in mind, it is really out of the question for the Banished to invent and produce synthetic Blamite, and then make and distribute weapons designed to use it among their ranks?

One of my favorite weapons in Halo Reach, it saved my ass so many times in my Legendary run on the 360. Yeah the DMR is guaranteed a Brute Kill in 2 Headshots, but this guarantees a kill in 3 shots anywhere on the body.
I like the Needle Rifle over the Carbine simply because a "Carbine" is a shorted rifle, yet the plasma rifle is smaller than it. Unless it's imply there is a "Long Rifle" version, it's really a poor name.
To me, the reason the Needle Rifle basically never appeared again, is because it was very closely associated with the T’voan, and with them fading out due to near-extinction the weapon basically was never really touched much more, with the carbine being preferred by the elites and most other Covenant. Headcanon admittedly, but it’s not too canon contrasting.

Did the needles always explode? Cos' Michael Sullivan was shot in the leg by a Needle rifle, and Chyler Silva in the stomach, and those didn't explode iirc.

@@Leitis_Fella Blamites are very scarce on the known universe of Halo, the only listed place (so far) that house veins of these materials is "Suban" a moon from "Sanghelios", so probably there's a way to manufacture or at least refine Blamites cristals, but so far, nothing confirmed. Also, sentinel enforces fires (and consequently produce) some sort of red, homing and needle-like projectiles, I theorize that the Forerunners start manufacturing their type of "blamite", because of their homing capabilities; It’s much more easy to kill flood hosts when your shots home on them from above.
Well since Reach was 20yrs after they both “Noted” & ONI was able to get they’re hands on one.. which requires (most of the time) a living human to bring 1 back to the lab.. 20yrs is a long time to produce & make them somewhat standard.. Also Reach was one of the biggest battles in the war so multiple Covenant formations, weapons & equipment were in the field for the fight..

Me too if the covenant carbine was burst fire I would of preferred it over the BR in Halo 3 and Halo 2
And the fun time thing you can do is just hold down the trigger and bam full auto .
My rifle of choice, opponents that deserve quick death get it, jarahanie get a slow one, not need to change the rifle.
Did the needles always explode? Cos' Michael Sullivan was shot in the leg by a Needle rifle, and Chyler Silva in the stomach, and those didn't explode iirc.
You totally both missed the part where both those people took one needle and when He explained in the video it takes multiple needles in a single target to make them explode.

@Chong Marin Can it be manufactured or reproduced artificially? Given the scale of the Covenant, I doubt that Blamite reserves could keep up with demand if it's endemic to one moon.
(I'm not familiar with this part of the lore)
@@Leitis_Fella Blamites are very scarce on the known universe of Halo, the only listed place (so far) that house veins of these materials is "Suban" a moon from "Sanghelios", so probably there's a way to manufacture or at least refine Blamites cristals, but so far, nothing confirmed.
Also, sentinel enforces fires (and consequently produce) some sort of red, homing and needle-like projectiles, I theorize that the Forerunners start manufacturing their type of "blamite", because of their homing capabilities; It’s much more easy to kill flood hosts when your shots home on them from above.
How was the Needler not encounter for another 2 yrs when its in Halo Reach same as the Needle Rifle?
Well since Reach was 20yrs after they both “Noted” & ONI was able to get they’re hands on one.. which requires (most of the time) a living human to bring 1 back to the lab.. 20yrs is a long time to produce & make them somewhat standard.. Also Reach was one of the biggest battles in the war so multiple Covenant formations, weapons & equipment were in the field for the fight..
This gun is awesome I like more than dmr
17lb rifle is heavy as hell
